Hi guys.

Any good shop that services KRR in the north? It's hard for me to get to neutral gear, the hi-beam isn't bright and the oil meter isn't working. There are alot of things I want to change to improve the outlooks, but I guess I havta settle those stuffs first.

A highly modded KRR can take out a CB400 easily even on a straight road, along with other varieting factors like condition of bikes, tires, chain (Just to name a few).

However if both bikes are totally original, the bigger cc bikes usually triumphs (Exclude small 4 strokers).

Modifications/Upgrading (Part 1) - In a nutshell, it is easy to unleash some more power from a stock engine as manufacturers usually compromise performance over over variable factors like fuel consumption, wrong petrol grade, poorly & not regularly maintained engines, bad air filtration etc... By sacrificing these, the consumers are often led to believe that their engines are strong although they have not serviced their bike for the longest time. If however, you are the model bike/car owner, servicing regularly, most of the time, you can look into getting more power, yet maintaining reliability.

Increasing power in an engine does not necessarily mean reduced engine life, closer servicing intervals. If that does happen, particularly the former, it can only mean 2 possibilities:-

a) Modifications are done beyond tolerable specifications (Example: Not addressing a lean A/F condition or overly bored cylinder)

b) Employing the use of "Race use only" parts. What this means is reduced lifespan for the singular purpose of extracting only more power. Safely though, most riders will not have access to factory "Race use only" parts unless you have an impressive race resume certified by the FIA or you have close strings tied to someone in the factory. Then again, factory parts are usually graded in 3 tiers.... and obviously there are also fake parts running out in the market.

Modifications/Upgrading (Part 2 - Powerband)

Peaky output vs Linearity

To most sports orientated riders (Especially newer ones), the natural attraction towards a wild peaky ride is always too enticing. Peaky powerbanded engines are usually accelerate very quickly at the last 2000-2500rpm of it's operating range. If used effectively by the expert level riders at the right circuit, this engine can reap rewards in terms of overtaking where it matters. The downside is however usable power, again effective rpm range of this engine is concentrated between 2500rpm, not higher where it runs out of steam or lower, where it'll bog. Even at professional level, only a few select riders can maximise on this with great effect.

Linear output on the other hand offers a wide powerband and even if you enter a corner with the wrong higher gear, your engine will still have enough power low down to pull it out of the corner with ease.

Modifications/Upgrades (Part 3 - Shifting of powerband)

Most street riders/drivers tend to drift towards a more aggressive power package when they are presented with options. For example, lets look at this scenario:-

Camshaft A +10BHP

Camshaft B +15BHP

Camshaft C +25BHP

To the noobie, they would automatically dive straight into option C with the thinking, I'm going to spend almost the same amount of money, why I don't I just opt for the one that gives me the most power? Now lets relook at the 3 packages again:-

Camshaft A (Eff. operating rpm range 2000rpm-7000rpm)

Camshaft B (Eff. operating rpm range 2500rpm-7000rpm)

Camshaft C (Eff. operating rpm range 3500rpm-8000rpm)

Package A & B (Marginally) makes it an ideal choice for a street car/bike cum weekend racer while package C makes no sense in anything other than a full race-only machine. Now try to imagine your car/bike with package C and trying to get past the packed streets of Orchard on a Saturday night. I'm sure you feel like crying and selling the bike the first chance you get. The shifting of a powerband upwards is imminent if you seek the last drop of power.

Modifications / Upgrading (Part 4 - What everybody hates to hear)

I've been approached countless times by enthusiasts who wants to increase power in the cars & bikes. 2 possible scenarios here. Firstly, this guy (Or gal) has surpassed his/her level in handling this vehicle with XXX BHP and the only way that he or she can improve on lap timings is by having a more powerful engine. In reality, I only know a very small amount of enthusiasts who meet this criteria and of course, they think otherwise.

Scenario 2 - There are so many other reasons these people give:-

1) My friends' bikes/cars are sooo much faster

2) I'm having a slow machine and my lap time is ridiculous. So by having a faster machine, my lap times will also drop

3) I just want to have a fast bike, faster than everybody else

4) To cover up the lack of skill with a bigger dose of power

While I'm no angel here and I'm guilty of all 4 before, I would stress before the direct question "How can I make my bike faster?", ask yourself these questions first:-

a) Do you have competant tires? (I've seen a guy at a bike shop buying and installing a race exhaust at a shop while his rear tire is already bald in the centre! His chain is dry, untightened & crooked at the same time!)

b) Do you have good brakes? Standard items here are better pads and high quality stainless steel hoses. Any stock brake system can be improved dramatically. If your stock brakes are not adequate, adding more power to the bike/car will bring you closer to the mortuary sooner.

c) Are my skills enough to handle my current ride? Can I ride it effectively at 95% limit under the most demanding situations? There is no replacement for practice and invest in good riding courses.

d) Is the suspension setup well? Suspension does play a very important part and I've seen too many times, stock engined bikes with good suspension setup overtake faster engined bikes on the track.

If the answer to these 4 questions are answered truthfully to yourself as YES, mod away!!!

hi i got a 2 questions to ask..

how much does it cost for a set of the side fairings?

roughly how much n where in the westside is gd to decarbonise my exhaust?

Si fu simi? I'm not one cos I'm still learning. One can never really stop learning.

Clean airfilter - Usually free (Stock is paper, so use an airblower)

Change? Dunno... mine's not changed yet

FireSpitter............ thanks for the very informative reply with regards to the mod.... maybe i was not specific..... they were travelling on a straight road... and my friend's bike is not a first hand bike and i strongly believe has been mod before and the kips i am also sure is mod but seriously i am very impressed....
