I'll keep it simple.

I shut it down because it has degenerated down to a point where it has become overly sarcastic and a mockery, especially to those newcomers or uninitiated.

When it was started as a common-interest group, the ideals that were to be upheld was as a place coduicive for fellow owners to hang around, have fun, share interests and help each other. Even non-GSR owners were welcome to join in.

 

This morning, I've received 3 appeals that has brought reasonable arguments on why it should not be closed.

So, taking those into consideration, I'm starting a poll on whether it should be reopened.

Also, I'm asking those involved that to pen their opinions of the thread, that whether should there be an improvements.

 

Personally, my whole impression of the thread (and the SBF GSR community) was as it was when it started out years back : warm, friendly place where we can hang out, help fellow riders, share tech data and info as well as welcome those who want to know more.

My only hope that we do not snub our nose at newcomers who come in with what seems like n00b questions, because we were n00b once ourselves, that we needed help ourselves once and we may never know the person we snubbed our noses at may one be day be the very person we need help the most from.

 

But that's just my personal opinion and contribution. I'm taking a neutral stance here so to let the others have their say.

 

And I ask no flaming or free-for-all.

I opt for Re-Open the thread.

 

I really feel lost without it. This is because the people are great. There are times where we lost control and the words juz wave over a couple of pages. This I agree that someone muz stop the sillyness.

 

We are at one time a noob. So to shun them away is not right. (Not all Noobs are nice).

 

Improvements so far would like to see more constructive questions and comments, not forgetting the outing!!! Really enjoy that.

 

So Please Please Please Bring it Back.........................................

Actually ... I was surprised to see that the thread was closed... kinda disappointed as well... for me... that is a home thread for me since I ride GSR and I seldom post or look at other thread...

 

I know that the thread has many new comers and old timers like to "side-rail" them or joke with them... but I think to the extend of closing the thread is kinda unbelievable... I do not question you why you close it... I'm just sad that it must come to such a tragic end...

 

I really hoped that the thread can resume it's daily activities ... except that we should welcome everyone and be kind to new comers... I am still consider a new comer becos I have been in here for only a few months ...

 

I think we can work together as GSR rider family ... warm and sharing...

 

Well ... it is a forum afterall... there tend to be some jokers around... making jokes... but I believe their intend is just clean fun joke ... and not insults...

 

Anyway... if you ask me... I think the thread should be re-open so that those genuine GSRers or would-be-GSRers can benefit from it...

 

Like what devil-suzy says ... maybe we should open two different threads on GSR ... one is for social chit-chat ... the other is purely subjects on GSR technical aspect...

 

GSRers social chit chat (For fellow GSRers to organise gathering or chit chat)

Suzuki GSR 400/600/750 (Only technical questions on GSR allowed!)

Occassionally talking kok was not much an issue but to go over the limit over simple stuff is child like. I understand that some things may touch a person close to heart but one must know that this is ULTIMATELY a forum and not to be taken seriously unless racial slurrs or anything more serious is involved.

 

Furthurmore i feel that the GSR community is a good source of info for the newbies and OLDER newbies and such. Therefore i would say re-open the thread, let bygones be bygones and please remind each other as to not escalate to similar incidents. Be it with supporting documents/sites/evidence and etc. I dun give a flying fuk if whatever vehicle i ride gives me problem. Peace outz..

i vote to re-open the thread. to be honest i think that's its unfair for a major thread to be shut down in a split second. i believe general warnings should be posted on the thread itself and PMs be sent to those involved. To shut down a thread as a first step, instead of a last step is too drastic a measure and don't mind me saying, unprofessional and shows that one cannot manage the thread leaving others to think that the GSR thread has got out of hand that even the moderators cannot control it.

 

i believe that comments that spanned a few pages were mainly from two people, which for obvious reasons i need not mention who. i do agree that sometimes newbies get flamed, but every forum has flamers and helpers. so for every newbie flamer, there will be someone to assist the newbie. im sure not all of us are that evil to shun away newbies as like what wildcard said, we were once all newbies.

 

this is where we all 'gather' every night to discuss certain issues, be it technical, financial, poison-al or plain silly comments which end of the day we all laugh about. to close this thread just shows other threads on the Naked Bikes thread that we GSR riders are a bunch of hooligans which do not deserve a thread to ourselves. in the first place the thread is about everything concerning the bike, not just the bike itself. it isnt about the individual posting on the thread. you should just discipline the poster(s) instead of 'disciplining' the whole thread.

 

i hope you dont get offended wildcard, cos im just giving my honest opinion and no hard feelings involved. i was just dumbfounded when i realised last night that our thread has been closed. upon inspecting the last few posts, i didnt see the need to close the thread. so like i said. honest opinion bro. cheers.

no offence but i think that if you say sarcastic, degenarative, and stuff, it's just between 2 person...not the whole grp.

 

and seriously, i wasn't even paying attention to all things discussed by the 2.

Well, although i'm not that active in this thread, but personally i think it should be opened and filled with more informations such as GSR spare parts, enhancing GSR performance, troubleshootings, tips & tricks etc aside from being the platform for the members to chat and organising outing...

 

And not to forget to help the new comers if it is relevance...

I strongly think it should be re open. It benefits newcomers who need the advise from the more experience guys. This forum is to help others and share our tacit knowledge.

 

Conflicts tend to arise due to differences in opinions, maybe we need to be more objective in dealing with the issues. Certain issues can deal it offline to minimize the impact to the other innocent parties.

 

Hope that it will re open again. Peace and friendly throughout the forum.

To be honest, reading the last few pages of the GSR thread as well as what I read when I dropped by in the past did not lead me to believe that the GSR riders are unfriendly and unhelpful to 'outsiders' or newbies. It seems to me that the closure of the thread was hasty and very abrupt.

 

Perhaps instead of reopening the thread, a technical discussion/question thread with basic GSR information and useful links in the first page and a new chit-chat thread can be set up?

I personally felt that it was an abuse of authority. Just because there was a rather heated discussion between 2 main culprits the entire thread was closed.

 

Why was it closed?

 

a) Just because the chatter was going off topic? I bet most other threads start rambling off topic some time or other. Why are they not closed as well?

 

or

 

b) Because a moderator was involved in the "discussion" and closing the thread was the easiest way out? It's like "I am a moderator and all u mere mortals shall bow down before me. You guys better please me or suffer the consequences."

 

I shall leave it to the rest to decide. Heck, why do I have the feeling that I'm sticking my neck out on the chopping board.

I see many ppl saying different things..... interesting... and i see that mostly also blame the mod for doing so.....

 

I hope the mod will come out and explain why he closed the thread in the first place....
