Riding a bike is different from driving.

Driving is all about comfort and space and free from the environment. It also about high cost of using it.

Riding is all about cost saving and freedom of protected environment. It about feeling the wind and getting rain some of the time. It about adventure and getting to know the local more easily especially if venture up further North. There riding is the way of life and when you ride up there, there will be a kind of kinmanship among the riders.

For me I prefer riding then driving even though the rain and the sun give some discomfort.

Driving is my daily transport in Singapore.

Used my bike only once or twice a month for makan trips in Malaysia.

However i still choose to keep my bikes. Why?

Riding is as therapeutic as yoga or meditating to me. I feel awake once on the 2-wheels, refreshed and alive after the ride. Totally feel and smell the wind. Better than any medicine in the world.

You need to ride as one with the bike, together with a great amount of concentration. Thus throwing all the other thoughts/worries into the back of your mind temporarily, focusing fully on the road in front of you.

Just added another V-twin Duke in my stable yesterday.

The sweet agile handling, V-twin engine vibes, raunchy exhaust barks make me have goosebumps everytime i ride it.

Slow down abit, smell the air and enjoy the scenery.

Caught the touring bug once again!

My vote: "I LOVE riding and cannot afford a car so it works out anyway"

After COE and exorbitant taxes, cars here are double or triple the price of when they're sold in other countries instead. So it's either I upgrade my bike to further fulfill my passion of riding, or to get sat down behind an expensive wheel. The decision is unanimous, at least for in this country.

Cheers.

(P.S.: I get "chauffered" around anyways)

P.S.: Guys, the threadstarter is not a 'local' (i think he comes from California). Let's give him some sort of a warm welcome here :thumb:

Thanks to my wife's influence, I'm a local now :) or at least trying to become one. Though I'm an alleged 'foreign talent' I sure ain't being overpaid like one or enjoy any 'car allowance'

I bought a car here for my wife, the price of a corolla can get me a BMW 3 Series back home... sure the corolla has leather seats, power everything and even alloy wheels... BUT IT'S A FREAKING COROLLA YOU THINK I GIVE A **** ABOUT ALLOY WHEELS OR LEATHER SEATS?

sorry, just had to get it out of my system.

I think riding is the best way to relax for me.

Got to concentrate while riding and forgot every thing else.

With every good wishes

Riding is impractical and subject to many external factors.

Eg. Cannot bring whole family including kids out for outing.

One thing which i cannot deny is parking fee for bike is away too cheap.

Compared to car, it is like heaven and hell.
