With the economics hitting hard on the ground,i'm a bit skeptics abt the sponsorship..Wat do u guys think?

not sure about the sponsorship...but i belief...sg is smart.

they bring F1, casino, and hopefully a racetrack....all this to get by this down time.

i think constructing a race track is alot cheaper then a casion...is it?

From the initial layout of the track from the picture look like you can run wide into the sea. But of cos this is not the actual track layout, as its yet to be put up. ;) 1 cent

yeah...i've seen this layout eversince the project is announced..and i dont think thats the layout,no bidders yet...and the track has to be more than 3.5 KM ...i hope they could increase it to 4.5 to 5 KM...then there would be some challenges..

This track is a dream come true for me.

I'm was a trackday junkie and was lucky enough to live in california and ride at Laguna and Sears Point, Thunderhill raceway. The trackdays there costs an arm and a leg. ($160USD for Thunderhill, $240 for Laguna Seca or Sears Point). This is a heavily discounted rate for buying 10 days a year in advance. If you buy Laguna Seca at face value it's $320 USD/day. The tracks are quite far, so usually you have to load all your stuff up on a truck (canopy - don't wanna sit in the hot sun all day do you? chair, cooler full of drinks, petrol tank (price at track is double), tool set, bike stands - for tire changes etc. load up the day before, drive 2-3 hours to the track and then spend 2 days there. Each trip was quite an affair, but a whole of fun. You get to meet tons of other passionate riders. Due to the track day being so full, it's split up to fast, intermediate and novice riders. Each group spends 20 minutes per hour on the track. So if you think all that $ gives you a whole day on the track, FAT HOPE. The 40 minute is actually a good break because at the end of riding 20 minutes about as fast as you can, you are pretty shagged out. Once we had an extended session, I rode for 45 minutes and almost crashed because I was so exhausted at the end of it. There was this other Ducati 749 rider and we were just trying to pass each other up. He ended up crashing at the last lap, last turn. Jeepers!

After a day of riding, we'll pack up and drive the truck back, unpack all your stuff, totally shagged out, but it's bloody fantastic. I'll spend about $500+USD/trip, but it's totally worth it.

Am I rich? No, I didn't have a car, didn't eat out, didn't go on holidays, buy new electronic equipment etc. Just put all my disposable income into racing. Thank God I didn't crash and have to repair parts.

To build and maintain a decent track costs $ Even in Tuas, the little track is $20 - $30/hr, so don't expect a motogp track to be cheap. Furthermore, when the track is in operation there should be corner workers, grid manager, ambulance & paramedics available. Track riding is not a 'safe' sport, and proper regulations to minimize ought to be and probably will be (since gahmen is involved) to be part & parcel of such activities.

Don't forget this track will probably be used by car owners. The serious drivers who can afford it will probably pay more for the track use, so be prepared to pay to play. Track riding is a highly optional activity, the track owners, if they spend millions to build the track will probably lease it out to whoever pays the most.

So be prepared to pay about $50+/hr. In the US, you are in it for the whole day, no hourly rate. If they have the hourly rate here, it will be much easier, when you fancy a thrill, just put on your suit and ride 30 minutes down to the track. No need to lug the whole crap down.

Don't forget to get a nice suit, good helmet, pair of gloves, boots etc. $1000 ought to get you the basics. Luckily, gear in Singapore is cheaper than in the US. Labor is also cheaper, although parts are a bit more pricey... so just don't crash.

Besides the track costs, don't forget that if you track your bike to change your oil at least every other trackday ($100). Depending on how fast you are, how well your suspension is set, tires are changed every few trackdays, and if your dumb ass crashes while trying to be like Rossi, team Yamaha ain't picking up the tab. Make sure you have medical insurance and enough hospitalization leave. My friend works for A&E at Changi Hospital, they'll patch you up nicely. :)

Do make sure that your cooler is changed to water + water wetter, why? because coolant is slippery and when your dumb ass crashes and coolant gets all over the track, they have to spend time cleaning up,wasting everyone's time.

All this is going to be done properly and done right. If you wanna be cheap, track riding ain't the sport for you. I'm going to cut back on vacations, dinners, movies, gadgets, etc. so I can get my fix on the track.

Below are pics of me at Laguna Seca in 2007, 1 is the corkscrew, where Rossi passed Stoner on the inside. Crazy move! The other is Turn 5, where Stoner got a brain freeze and ran off the track, losing the race. Costs me an arm and a leg, but the memories (and photos are priceless).

Last pic is turn 1 at thunderhill, the day I was mixing it up with that black 749 and the other dude crash out!

See you guys on the track!

Actually if it's going to be $50 for an hour, i still think it is pretty reasonable, since the facilities and tarmac are all new. But i'm also not surprised it might turn out to be $80 and above! This is Sgp man, nothing is cheap!
