Check out the Arkon SM032 or GPS032.

You can buy them online such as on amazon, practical, inexpensive and you can save some $$ using the hp's GPS instead of getting a separate GPS unit. Make sure you have a socket nearby to power the hp or it'd drain the battery pretty fast (the Arkon power socket do not have a good review though).

Thanks bro. Just ordered one from Amazon. About USD32. Can't wait to try it out. Horlan too many times liao...

Anyone knows of a water-proof holder for iPhone, so that it can be used as a GPS on the motorcycle? Sorry if this question has been asked, but this thread is 50 pages thick...

Do note that it might still not be practical if you wear gloves. Also, the battery life is also lower.

Just to share:

1) For overseas riding, I use a Garmin Legend Cx (would like to change to 60csx) and hardcopy maps

2) For local riding, I stick to Mighty Minds Street Directory

3) For local driving, I stick to Mighty Minds Street Directory and my mobile phone's GPS.

I use etrex legend, (Garmin) good thing about it is it got a joystick to use, but you got to make sure your holder does not block the side, because the zoom button and night light button is at the side.

If you want to use it and your holder is in the way you got to set everything before setting off.

For iphone, use normal holder lah, then use cling film for wrapping food to wrap it.

I did that for my car GPS when I used it on my bike last time when I didn't have my etrex legend some years back.

Essentially, the GPS are the same. For bikes, they are ruggedised to cope with the dust and rain.

The GPS can draw its power from the bike's battery. The power consumption of the gps is very minimal and even on the smallest bike, there will be no degradation on the battery performance.

Hello GPS experts,

I have a Zumo550 and I lost one of the spacers for the RAM mount. It's the thing circled in the picture.

May I know where I can buy a replacement in Singapore? Thanks.

Not sure if I am of any help here.

That piece is just a spacer right ? Rubber ? Get the measurements, and get it fabricated at Garlin

I think I might have a spare I can give you - Got a few of these things in a bag with other bolts and crap and I'm not using it. Can you give me the exact measurement, length and diameter of the hole so I can see if it's indeed what you need ?

It might not be fitting but it's worth the shot.

Otherwise, this is the official shop we go to for GPS/RAM Mount stuff: http://www.jkcommercial.com.sg

Hi Demon,

It is some kind of hard plastic. I think rubber won't be suitable because it is load bearing (has to bear the load of the cradle). Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hi O'Ren,

Thanks so much for the offer. The OD is 12.75mm, ID is 6.5mm and the length is 12.5mm.

Once again, thanks for your kind offer!

The OD and ID are the right ones, but the length of the one I have is a bit longer, 16mm. But you probably can saw it off.

It's not made of flexible rubber, but rather some sort of thick black plastic (maybe it's super hard rubber ?)

I'm staying in the west and can meet you at the Rail Mall when you can if that works for you, or if too far from where you are, let me know where it would be more convenient for you and I'll see when I can make it today.

You can PM me your contact info to make it easier to communicate :)

I'm talking about the latest MFM maps. More details read a few paws back… Also not to worry if you are like me using the Garmin SD card. Of course the ones given by MFM's more precise.....

Hi Bros,

any recommendation on which GPS unit to get for both car and bike use? Most important is must be able to use MalSing maps, which I believe is available for free and constantly updated. My current HTC phone (more than 3 years old I guess) came with Windows Mobile 6.0 and MapKing preloaded with the Singapore map, but cannot read MalSing maps.

I believe the MapKing software needs additional registration and payment to read 3rd-party maps, which I think is unscrupulous (of MapKing) since the maps are not provided by them. For example, when I have Windows XP on my PC, I don't need to pay Microsoft additionally for running a 3rd-party application software.

Thanks for any advise and/or recommendation. Apologize if this issue had been discussed before in this thread.
