my friends... do use WD40 with some caution, for it may solve the problem at hand now but cause other problems. suggest you clean away the WD40 residues and lub/grease the moving parts properly, WD40 should never be used in place of grease.

a simple experiment:

find 2 iron or stainless steel screws, spray some WD40 on one of them and leave them alone for some time. check back and you should see how well WD40 works in "preventing" rust by comparing the 2 screws.

one reminder, never use WD40 or similar product on the disc lock unless really bo-pian, e.g. when pin is already ceased up, key assembly stuck due to rust, etc. if need it to "bite" rust, i strongly recommend to have all residue thoroughly cleaned and then apply proper lub or grease over the parts. as much as the manufacturer claims otherwise, WD40 isn’t effective in rust prevention. ask around, and you’ll find many pp concurring. these juices work very well as degreasers, so well that they somewhat clean away the original coat of lubrication on the parts applied, leaving only a thin layer of light lub which tends to dry up in short time. once light lub is evaporated, whala… rust lai liow

running in the SW is very simple... please read the SW tech corner post #136 Running in

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/113114-Silverwing-400cc-600cc-Tech-Corner?p=6727120&viewfull=1#post6727120

also suggest you spare some time to read the Silverwing 400cc / 600cc Tech Corner; info there could tell you the common issues SWingers have encountered, from commonly patronised workshops, to stuffs like final drive oil, to common ad-ons to the SW

one of the first posts to read could be post #99 Some pointers for new SW owners

kinda tired even its only a 4 hrs trip... old liao, here ache there ache...

din hit the top speed, only cruise between 140~150km/h on NSHW. travelling at such speed is actually quite high fuel consuming... :nono:

my feeling is same as SW9000, our SWT400's aerodynamic design, or the "wind-cutting" is not really dat good. other than dat, everything is fine. "cool:

need to wash bike le. so many "dead bodies" at the front part...

ehhh... assuming you are negotiating a left turning curve/bend...

1. When approaching the curve you keep to the right side and slow down a bit. *For us, we can tap the rear brake. For others, they use engine brake or drop gear.

2. When entering the curve, lean and cut inwards to the left side (push/pull handle bar to the right for faster lean). *Can throttle here to power thru the bend.

3. When exit the curve, upright the bike and it will come back to the right side again. *Aka slow in fast out. Of course there are those who practice faster in fastest out. Now they a bit slower liao because changed to very heavy bikes. hehe.

Therefore, when going into a curve, check the blind spot on the side of the turning. ** This one... SSDC got teach. No check = minus points.

Thanks...now understand liao...

you're welcomed... do join us for TCSS and CB watching at the Rail Mall CB Clubhouse whenever you can

scooters's handle bars usually feels a bit looser/lighter than the usual motorbikes due to a bigger head angle, i.e. front forks are more vertical or perpendicular to the ground. SW is a maxi-scoot whose head angle is somewhere in between, thus not as loose as those old-time vespas whose forks are near perpendicular to the ground. bigger or smaller (e.g. cruisers) head angles both have advantages and disadvantages, they all affects the handling characteristics of a bike/scoot.

Turned out that lithium spray isn't suitable for brake lever lubrication; WD40 did the job.

If u wanna redo one time fr brakes, change brake caliper piston seal, clean caliper piston and change brake pump piston. Buy frm ah boy cheaper and he'll get frm fjt. Bought frm fjt agent straight always kanna chop price.

Need bit of skill and patience if u change then as bleeding frm empty hose bit challenging.

Both seals and piston cause u less then $50.

Next upgrade is sintered hh compound for front caliper and organic for rear. Can try vesrah cheaper then ebc but equivalent stopping power and less dust.

Last upgrade is stainless steel braided hose.

But dunnot use wd40 to clean caliper piston as it deteriorate the seal. Clean using brake cleaner bought frm mustaffa and apply thin layer of brake fluid. Min dot 4.

I Flush and bleed my brake fluid each time i change brake pads.

Had my throttle bodies, injector clean And Synchronize the throttle bodies. Fixed hurricane open pod, NO service manual bit challenging. Took me 4hrs plus but result was excellent. Throttle respond is smoother and better.

Next project is to check and clean the final transmission, gear oil change, engine oil change and spark plug. Love my ride!!

Awaiting my free new tires and windshield. :)

ty sw9000 for the explaination. i'm away to msia & no internet connection there. :cheeky:

in general, dis method may not be applicable to daily riding due to our road condition, especially during heavy traffic. its best to keep in the centre of the lane instead.

u can learn more from sw9000. he "kup" corner like there's no tml.

17k... From Sin Boon Motor, Northlink. I scout ard, the range is 17-17.5

good thing I took back the box frm my gsr and install on my SW..

I think SW looked nicer with box and the added storage space is really great..

btw,17k reasonable? trade in mine at 11, so top up 6, quite a deal actually..

hi.. i found out my speedometer inner plastic cover got some dunno wat stain which i can't remove it... any idea wat can i do??

the clear plastic cover can be removed to clean the inside, but need to take down the whole head cowl...

1) remove the "W" shaped front cover

2) remove windshield

3) remove head cowl

4) remove metal bracket holding the meter assemble

5) remove the clear plastic cover over the meter assembly to clean whatever you wanna clean

6) reverse the sequence

for someone who's very familiar with removing/fitting back the tupperwares, process could take abt 1hr. if not familiar, 2hrs also easily gone :p
