the new engine sound is orgasmic! trust me! it's much better than r1 2008 model. i turned from an r1 critic to an r1 lover from 2009 onwards. let's just say r1 is included in my wishlist of dream bikes. and she looks so sexy! i love the new eyes, so alluring! and the body shape is more streamlined, rightly proportioned at the strategic places. if you want to buy a litre bike, get this bike if money is not a problem to you.

i got the price list from Hong Leong & brand new R1 09 is approximately 29K without insurance & R6 09 comes to R1 pricing...:sweat::sweat:

as mention by firefox87, get this bike if money is not an issue.

Read that for 09 model, the firng order is not evenly timed. ( normally in line 4 engines are )

Could it be like Rossi's M1, whereby although its an inline 4, the firing order is like a V4?

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

The eyes remind me of Wall-E. The body is top heavy in front with short, stubby exhausts at the back. From the side view, it doesn't look good. Not aerodynamic at all. Though I got issues with the look, the 09 R1 technology is :lovestruck:...

First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature's rules biker-sans. Not mine...

but if you compare between 08 model and 09 model, don't tell me that the R1 never improve its looks! maybe we should be given the chance to test this on a track or something. then can know whether it's aerodynamically better or not. :D

not sure about the aerodynamics part but claims are that the new firing order of the 2009 R1 , ( somewhat V4 style ) will make it easier to lay the all those horses to the tarmac.

Think thats why up to 600cc super sports ( whereby the power is not so overwhelming, most use in line 4 ( that fires like an inline 4) eg, Gsxr 600, Cbr 600, R6.

But when it comes to 1000cc ( moto gp now 800cc), Honda used a V4/V5, Yamaha uses an inline 4 BUT fires like a V4. And suzuki uses a V4 too, the GSVR. Not sure about kawa though..

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

Go get the latest issue of Bike Magazine (UK origin).

It compares the 4 litre bikes: R1, Fireblade, GSX and ZX10. It also shares reviews of the R1 and all the other 3 bikes.

I have rode before inline 4 sportsbike and V4 (Pan and VFR). I got to tell you that for maximising grip, V4 is the way to go. The 09 R1 has firing interval like VFR (V4). The innovation is not expensive to make. I think this will be the wave for the future.

Based on the review, yes the R1 sounds great. But the Honda still comes up top in the review for very typical Honda Fireblade reasons: a strong mid-range (most often used by road riders and track), smooth suspension and going faster using the same rider effort.
