Yamaha YBR250

It will be the new 2A bike for Comfort Driving Centre, awaiting approval from LTA sometime in September. If you're learning at CDC it is near the helmets. Looks like a CBX250, really small and only one cylinder. According to the instructors it has no power at all. In my opinion 250cc bikes are like big versions of 2B bikes - the tyres are skinny, one cylinder only with the tinny sound. Like the instructor said, you pass 2A won't buy 250, will go for 400. Bikes like GSR400 or CB400 are like mini class 2 bikes. Look and sound much better.

Oh my god.... the YBR125 already is a sad powerless bike.... still want a YBR250....Can't imagine... probably will have to full throttle then release clutch at slope... hahah! :nono:

actually it helps the future 2A ryders, as the weight of the bike not as heavy as XJR. Handling wise would be better. Power wise is secondary, as you guys just be using it for training purposes. Beside you not going to ride it on the road ^^

they are a lot of people who just wish that their 2b bike can have a lil bit more power, with nicer looks and better handlings while wanting to save cost on maintenance. so, that's where the appeal of 250cc bikes.

yup you got a point, we'll definitely get more choice for this 250 range.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

there are only two 250cc sports bike still in production.

hyosung gt250r and kawasaki zxr 250.

gt250r is a v twin. and the kawasaki zxr 250 is a parallel twin.

dont confuse between Kawasaki Ninja 250R and Kawasaki ZXR250.

they are different bike.

Kawasaki Ninja 250R---parallel twin(similar to ZZR250)

Kawasaki ZXR250---In-line 4( young brother of ZXR400)

Yes I'd imagine so. Fuel economy for 250cc bikes is very good and maintenance is low because they are mostly singles.

nt true.. wat abt RS250 and PGM 3/4.. haha

unless u're talking abt 4stroke 250cc bikes..

its only good for 2a learners to pass.. its bad when they actually go and buy a 2a bike which it most likely to be heavier than the ybr250 and more powerful as well.. then it sort of defeats the purpose on taking 2a lessons.

so short terms, it helps.

long term wise, i think its better to learn on the xjr.

just my 2 cents worth.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

I never ask, coz i already enquire with Boon siew whether are they bringing in this bike, they said no.So i think parts would be a problem later on.

YBR250? Are you serious bro? I bet you totally no power. At all. Oh well. What next? YBR500? Then you can have YBR Family of YBR125, YBR250 and YBR500. Then can race at the WUBC(World Unkle Bike Championship)!:thumb:

Then when will win world championship, i will print "The Unkle" on my bike and racesuit!

Oh yeah check this out.

power isn't everything. wanna play with bike, of cos we choose something with more power.

but that bike can be used as dispatch, delivery... can help companies save so much in term of petrol and maintanence.

What i had in mind was a different kind of race. An obstacle course that a typical unkle and despatch rider will face.

Phase 1(Despatch)

-Time starts, rider has to load up 15 KG worth of items. eg, packet of sugar, new MP3 player etc.

-Has to deliver the goods in the fastest time, without comprimising safety.

-Obstacles he has to come across.(Cars cutting in lane etc.)

Phase 2(Father)

-Pick up a doll(to simulate a primary school child) and send the child from school to tuition etc.

-Send son to football practice.

At the end of the Phases, Fuel used and time taken to complete the tasks will be based upon a points system. More fuel used=less points, more time=lower points. At the end of the day, the rider with the highest point will earn the title, "The Unkle" :D

That's what I don't understand about 250cc bikes, at least in Singapore. Yes there is obviously a market for fuel efficient and cheap bikes - but that market is already very well covered by the very wide range of 2B bikes! With 2A licence, who will want the extra 50cc? Phantom has 17 PS, YBR 250 has 21 PS - how much difference will that make?

Those who want budget commuter will go for CBF150, Phantom, YBR125, Pulsar, and so on.

Those who want more powerful commuter will go for S4. The in between market in Singapore must be very small.

In other countries with different licence system it is understandable, then 250cc bikes are good beginner bikes, where they might need to hit ~120 without too much struggle. (YBR250 top speed is about 136)

For those with no licence restrictions, 250cc bikes are a good alternative transport compared to 150/200cc ones. My 250cc scooter is no more powerful compared to 200cc ones, but can get better fuel consumption and is more relaxed at highway cruising speeds.

I'm riding a Honda 250cc cos there are few advantages.

1) Insurance is cheaper than 2B bikes (at least for my case with NTUC).

2) Tires has wider profile, which makes me feel more stable in rainy days.

3) Bike is heavier than 2B road bikes, but lighter than S4.

4) Seat height is lower than S4.

There are of course other disadvantages, but eventually it only grinds down to only one thing that matters the most - I like my bike :)

In theory, that is where the appeal should lie. I think Singapore riders probably have the mentality, "I have waited so long for class 2A/2, must make full use." Perhaps that is why these 250 bikes have the uncle image: only uncles who got their licence in the bygone days without class restrictions don't mind riding them.

But for you, I suppose having 1352cc and 193 hp waiting in the garage goes some way towards fixing that mentality...

sound like top gear :cheeky:... all you need to do is do some funny modification to the bikes involved...

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

I guess i'm part of that 'uncle' 250cc gang then? :D

The only situation where that 1352cc machine is better than the 250cc scooter in Singapore is in the wee hours in the morning, on empty expressways. Even then gotta keep the eyes peeled for white ghosts.

Choosing between struggling to reach 90km/h or struggling to keep below 90km/h, the choice is simple. :thumb:
