Hm, but does the FBF one protect the springs in the event of a crash? I can't really see from the picture, but it doesn't seem deep enough.

I've seen the FBF plate in person (not in S'pore unfortunately) and nope it doesn't protect the springs like the Speedymoto plate does. I guess this should be a concern if you are using a CF cover; less so for billet covers....

Hmm, makes sense. A stronger clutch cover is cheaper too!

think its a cosmetic upgrade.

some might say u say a bit of weight but frankly speaking i think the best and most effective to save weight is for the rider himself to go on diet.

my 2 cents worth of thoughts.

That depends on how much weight savings you get for the new clutch pressure plate. Weight saving on rotating and reciprocating parts do a great deal more than if it was just dead weight.

Hey DOC, rather than informal meetups, how about we do a proper, monthly meetup instead?

We discuss more on Thursday. See ya there! :D

As for the clutch plates, its not just for cosmetic purposes. The stock ducati clutch pressure plate does not protect the spring towers in an event of a crash. I heard the stock cover issn't very strong either, and there are horror stories of 999 owners dropping their bikes at standstill, breaking the clutch spring towers THROUGH the stock cover.

The stock clutch cover seems to be more for sound deadening rather than for protection purposes. Good quality pressure plates like this one are designed to protect the clutch in an even of a crash, so the bike is still rideable.

the clutch covers used on the 999 are the same thru out the ducati range. so if it happens to the 999, it can happen to the rest. anyway, when it drops, the first impact area would be the fairing, clutch covers are grazed in low sides but rarely crack.

anyway, its cosmetically good to have a gold idonised cover and so on, but i suggest not getting ventilated covers if u have termis on, its already loud enough, the ventilated clutch would attract furthur unwanted attention. at this moment, when i see c*ps, i can at least clutch in to reduce the noise. imagine having a ventilated clutch, i'd not escape man.

Current rides: Ducati 999 and X9 500 SL

If you want more noise, just take out the whole cover. Its a dry clutch afterall!

Clutch cover horrors? Well, vented covers may look nice, but if the cover is not strong enough, then in an event of a crash it might damage the clutch springs itself. I've seen pictures of those springs breaking off. THey say it can be ridden with 3 out of the 6 springs broken off!

Simple solution is to get a high quality vented cover machined from aircraft grade billet aluminium. :D

Heard drill hole at the clutch cover...

Anyone got any idea...how to make the "cling cling" sound louder

attach a loud hailer at the dry clutch. :cheeky: :cheeky:

Free up the signature sound by 'opening' the cover. Buy a vented cover, drill holes in the cover or use spacers to create a gap between cover and engine casing.

A noisy rattling dry clutch is not illegal. It is after all OEM and homologated with the bike through LTA. IMO it's part of the Doocahtee sound (along with booming Termis of course)! :thumb:

Hi guys, I'm back to work at Mah, so I might not be able to make it for this meet-up as my working hours are irregular. (Doesn't mean shop close i can leave liao)

But in the meantime, I thought maybe we can start a list to aid future meet ups. As I've attended meet ups in the past and experienced the confusion of connecting the nick with the actual person. So I'll start

Darn, this is the 3rd time I'm suggesting this....

Last meetup's turnup was great, why not we make it a monthly thing? Last meeting was on a Sunday, but I think a Saturday evening would be better right?

How bout that, 2nd Saturday of each month, Ducati meetup? So noneed lists and noneed to contact people, cos everyone knows when and where it is!

ya dude.. i'd be fine if i didnt have termis on, id get a vented and let it rattle away. BUT, for the sake of my lovely termis, i'd clutch in when passing erm c*ppers. potential $500 saving moments

Why not get the Cyclecat sliders?

The cycle cat sliders comes with a stronger engine bolt which replaces the stock one

which is threaded only on one side on the older models. Newer Ducatis have a stronger bolt and threaded on both ends so for the old Ducatis, getting the sliders is like killing 2 birds with one stone.
