mind asking if anyone here always face a issue when parking your bike outdoor and happen to had a heavy rain. After heavy rain stop, you start the bike and face some problem when moving off the bike. like the power of the bike abit unstable. What is the main reason to it? Plug Coil water seep in? or water seep into Clutch plate area?

The pre-2005 749/999 spark plug coils were susceptible to water seepage. After rain, it is possible that some water got in and caused misfiring to one/both plugs. Whenever this happened I would apply WD-40 and the misfiring would stop. The coils were improved on later 749/999 bikes. Hope this helps.

I should also elaborate that applying WD-40 on the inside of the coils involved removing the bolts from the seat assembly and lifting the entire tank/seat/subframe assembly, pivoting on the front 2 main frame studs holding the front of the tank. After that you need to manouvre a wrench in between the tank and cylinder tops to assess the nuts holding the coils. The coils can be wriggled out (with wires intact) once the nuts are removed. Quick spray of WD-40; reverse the above to re-install. Usually took me about 20mins. Not a quick job and usually messy due to road grime in the tight spaces. FYI.

So it would be recommended that my plug coil should use 2005 and above? I did saw online about this. Too bad recently this year i just bought a new coil for my old model.

Are there many guys here that do their own maintenance?

I would rather spend money on tools and do it myself than pay someone else to do it, especially as it's an older bike and lots of info available.

Would be great if we had some kind of tool sharing or rental in SG, but I guess there's not enough of us.
