Ch 24, Delayed telecast of Moto GP this Sunday...... :weep:

Ah Tan.. I think I more or less decided to get a Triumph Thruxton. Think it will be a more versatile and stylish option. The 996's usage range is so limited, end up I`m paying so much to use it only 2-3 times a month.

So you wanna consider my 996?

It comes with:

- Zero Gravity Screen

- Carbon fibre tank and key guard

- Carbon fibre exhaust heat shield

- Carbon fibre chain guard cum hugger

- Carbon fibre swingarm protector cover

- Valter Moto Seat Cover

- DP Aluminium Vented Clutch Cover

- Stainless Steel clutch springs with anodised spring caps

- Ohlins steering damper

- Ohlins rear shock

- Arrow Half System (and custom made noise eaters)

The Sportec M1 tyres are new.

Forks recently rebuilt.

Ohlins damper recently rebuilt.

It's also "decorated" with a sticker kit I bought from US.

Mileage at 26K.

I'm looking at $18.5K. Let me know k?

When the Ducati Sports Classics come, your Thruxton will be overshadowed. Classic design meets modern Ducati running gear. Can't wait to see one~! :thumb:

Hey guys, i'd be going down to Pitstop to catch the delayed telecast of the Philip Island race. Aussie time is like 2 hours faster than us now (Winter, daylight saving), so the race should be starting soon.

Anyway, will be meeting KTKT there at around 8, will arrive earlier. :thumb:

Question for Duck owners.

Just back from a 2000km round trip of M'sia. Rode in the rain quite a lot.

My friend's 999 encountered a problem on the trip. We're thinking it's probably the rain that did it. Or perhaps he did not wait for the bike's electronics to startup before hitting the starter button.

Dunno yet.

When U turn the key, you can hear the bike's internals (I assume the Desmos and stuff) cycling thru their startup. The Tacho is stuck at Max RPM. The LED display is lit green, but nothing else. Blank.

Bike is able to start and run as per normal most of the time though.

Any clue as to what happened to his electronics??

Any place to recommend (besides the very obvious Minerva) to get it checked out?

try to remove the tacho, theres a multi pin connector at the back of the tacho (male), try to get some contact cleaner there as well at the female side.

if its under warranty, get the tacho replaced at minerva.

Current rides: Ducati 999 and X9 500 SL

OK thanks. Will advise him to look at that connector. As for warranty, I don't think it's under warranty anymore.

Just a question. I notice that the 999's electronics need to cycle or initialize, when you first turn it on, before you hit the starter button.

Is there any negative effects of just hitting the button before this cycle is complete?? Could this have possibly knocked out the tacho and LED display?

The tach and digital console is just a display, the main computer is deep within the bike. I think. Tomorrow I try starting the bike without the display connected.

Anyway, I usually wait for the fuel pump to prime first, and the key logo to go off before pressing the start button. It can be started when the 999 words are displayed though.

I went to Ducati's website to see those bikes, not very nice leh.. Still prefer the look of the Thruxton 900.

Anyway, I always thought choosing a bike is always Style & Passion (italians) Versus Clever engineering & Reliability (japanese).

Till I closely considered the Triumphs, and realise you can have the best of both worlds.

The training I attend in Japan really made up my mind. The last day required us to dismantle and assemble back a 2nd generation engine. We were also given a dismantled 3rd generation engine to study. Throughout, the instructor pointed out several design concepts and the rationale behind them.

Then I realised not only can I ride in style, I can also enjoy thoughtful, functional engineering with much reliability.

Last but no least, I was very impressed by Triumph's organisation and their speedy response to parts and warranty request. No other manufacturer I've come across, is as efficient and transparent as them.
