Yes, there is a plastic 50ml "buffer tank" just under the fuel line switch :3

hmmm... my bike doesn't have that... I think you are referring to a petrol filter... some riders might install it between the fuel petcock and the carburetor...

you won't be able to tell the condition of the bike from the shop either...

I am assuming that the shop would have checked the bike, service and replace parts where necessary. No?

it heavily depend on how trustworthy the shop is...

no matter if you are buying the bike off a shop or from a private seller, you need to get a friend who is experienced enough with bikes to know what to look out for.

3k is horribly expensive considering you can get a nice TA series for a fraction of the price from a private owner who takes good care of the machine.

3k is the price I got for mine......... including full overhaul, rebuild, accessories, and lots of chrome. If it comes with anything less, show em the finger.

I can give you a little tutorial on how to differentiate a good bike from a problem one if you like.

I'm considering on getting a phantom which I saw from the used bike section.

Bad news is...I just passed my TP, am new to bikes and I don't have any friends or family members who rides a bike.

So can anyone kindly share with me regarding what to do/check/pay more attention to when viewing the bike? thanks! :cheeky:

Firstly Vashie, grats for passing 2B and

secondly grats for deciding to come to SBF to seek advise

i juz passed my 2B on 11th March. well when u buying a bike, u expect it to be in running conditions right ? wouldnt want a bike that breakdowns every 2 or 3 days do we.

so for me, when getting a bike, be it from forum sales or shops, there are a few key items can be checked even from newbies such as you and me.

1) Outlook-looks old anot, any accident scratches, dents, check the main frame if theres any welding rejoins indicating any accidents involved.

2) sit on it to feel any strange sounds, squeky or weird loose or breaking sounds.

3) leave bike under cool condition without startup for awhile then try start it to see if it has troubles starting up.

4) then see appearance, whether it will make you change anything once u get it or not.

5) best is still get a friend with experience, 2 pairs of eyes is still better than one......

6) and usually getting first bikes, u will do things recklessly (like me...)

anyway i bought mines with 2 and half year coe FV plate ta200 at shops 2.0k then + insurance + road tax + admin fees totalled up 2.6k.

my misc stuff is about $500 so my bike is about $2000.

If u wan it to be cheaper, get from forum. Else bike shop would be more expensive.

However, do look at the condition of the bike. Pricing may not be everything. You can call up NTUC or other insurance companies to have a gauge of your insurance. Then u know how much the shop is chopping u

Im 27 so juz over the 26 year old stage, if ur 31 and above then even cheaper. 21 i think is 2nd stage de prices, below 21 even more expensive.

advise from shop owner to me, getting 1st bike which is 2nd hands, juz get a 3rd party is enough for me. so its 400 bucks, mine's is sumitomo insurance. and if i wan 2nd party is 8++ leh.

so u better check if there are other insurance company they can ask first.

what bike u asking anyway ? Phantom ? cause if insurance also depends wad type of bikes u buy. NSR/kips fairing sport bikes, vespa are all expensive compare to kups or phantoms.

i think the shop trying to chop you la...

when i was still p-plate, 23 years old (last year haven pass b'day) ntuc 3rd party, the price was $580++

2nd year, with 10% NCD, price is $350 for 11 months (chose this option for insurance to coincide with road tax)

if you are looking for a phantom just for transport, i will suggest TA200.

if you are looking for a much more powerful machine, i will suggest TA150.

better FC or better power, can only choose one.

you can find some really cheap TA150 deals on garage sale now, the only thing is they are coming to an end of their 10 year COE lifespan and COE prices are at a high of $1221...

Class 2B - 26/03/2009

Class 2A - 01/06/2010

Class 3 - 10/07/2009

Rides(s)

1) Honda TA150 - 20/04/2009 to 31/08/2014

2) Honda CB400 Ver S - 12/07/2014 to ???

something is indeed wrong with your insurance quote. last year I was p-plate 20 years old, my insurance was $650... mine axa, ntuc a little more ex but not so extreme until 1k...

since you are 21 already, you can try mitsui insurance as well, located a few floors above lim ah boy's shop...

if that statement made is recent, then it could be very true, as premiums are on the rise again :faint:

I'm just looking for a transport bike with good fuel consumption...so I'll be getting a TA200 phantom. I went to looi's and the person said 800-900 for all kinds of bike since young and p plate.

I heard a lot of insurance company don't take from 21 and below, only ntuc will provide for younger people. Can name me some other insurance companies which takes my age?

Ntuc, mitsui, axa all takes 21yrs old? any more?

I went to ask few days ago only...haha. The person said the bike model doesn't matter for p plate insurance...is it true?

I thought it would be cheaper for Phantom.
