Update : I found a pair of Komine PK-700 Protect Riding Mesh Pants BIRANCIA at Motoworld in my size, so after a bit of haggling I got them for $150. The staff Nick was very friendly and helpful.

And with typical luck, 10 minutes after I bought them I found out that apparently there's a shop in Cineleisure (level 3 maybe?) that sell ICON riding gear :faint: So now I'm experiencing a dose of buyer's regret... would have been nice to check out the Hooligan2 pants before making a final decision. I'll probably still head down there sometime and check it out.

Thanks for the info! :thumb: Tried calling them to enquire about the gear, but there was no answer. Will try again later.

EDIT: Their website http://www.xtremerated.com doesn't mention ICON in the list of brands at the bottom... but still, will go check it out sometime. Who knows, I might find something else to get poisoned by :lovestruck:

is it weird for me to get a pair of gloves that is 2x the price of my mesh jacket?

'bikes are your sweet poison. despite knowing it would kill, you would die just to have a taste of it. '

y not? i tink its perfectly fine. price to me doesnt matter, as long as the build quality n the protection features are good.. i hv been using a no-brand mesh jacket from Regina i got for $60 for abt a year now. comfortable w/ good substantial paddings, but at the same time i use an A* full glove twice the price...

price is subjective la. look at the materials and quality of the stitching.

fox bombers are pretty solid. 50 bucks, carbon knuckle with leather padding on palm. looks pretty sweet as well. just stay away from white colour, dirties too easily.

It's amazing the number of people who wear full gear EXCEPT the jacket and knee guard.

I would think knees and elbows would be pretty high on the list of body parts kissing the ground first :)

I've never been riding in SG without a protective jacket. Mesh jackets now are really not hot at all. Maybe it was the case 5 years or so ago but you can today find a good looking mesh jacket with hard shell protections going for less than S$200 that has enough mesh for a good ventilation.

My view is that if you ride in a tshirt at noon under the sun , you will be hot anyway. A mesh jacket isn't gonna make it that much worse honestly.

Have a look at komine and taichi jackets at Motoworld Ubi and see for yourself, some are super light and good enough for commuting.

Some jacket manufacturers even produce now jackets with "casual" looks that actually look more like a retail jacket than a motorcycle jacket.

There are a lot of options out there, both to get something ventilated and to store your jacket on the bike ( for example, you can use a simple threaded wire that you slide into a plastic tube to make it easier to manipulate, and use it to secure the jacket on your bike by the sleeve. Have done it many times and it works like a charm).

If you are the kind of rider that gears up head to toe, don't leave your back, shoulders and elbows out! :)

How much does a mesh jacket cost about?

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

Mm, no worries. Think they will open till 7? Wow, playing catching up. Not my style.

Whenever there's another rider with me, I'll adhere to the limit of the slowest rider. In fact, I won't exceed the legal speed limit. Ride safe, go back in one piece.

Mm, I've bought a leather/mesh jacket for $360 after discount.

Regina sells a mesh jacket with soft shell armour on arms (=shoulders + elbows) and back at $80.

Moto world has a komine full mesh jacket with hard shell armour on arms, back AND chest (quite rare to have the whole combo) for $180 before bargaining. Taichi jacket with full hard shell except for the chest, same price or $200 depending on the seller's mood. If you drive a hard bargain you can get 10-20 sgd discount.

They also have previous seasons jackets starting at $150 just ask for older models they want to get rid of, they might have your size still in stock. Keep an eye on their FB page, to know when new models come in and when do sales, their sales are worth it, I got Komine knee guards for half their price, and gloves with 30% discount.

Hope this helps making the choice to get more protective gear :)

Oh and I often recommend moto world not because I have any financial interest or anything else, but it's the shop I prefer: you can browse many models, the staff is usually keen to show you sizes and products (when in a good mood), they have 2 locations (lavender 's dude is super nice and always customer friendly), and they offer a variety of products so when you go there you can get more of your shopping done.

Chiap Lee, Regina, LAB I rarely go to, because their prices depend on whether you look like a carrot to chop, (Ang mohs welcome to the butcher's shop!), and it's hard to try on and browse a lot of items. But them again to be fair, I rarely I go there so my opinion is clearly not sustained by lots of experiences :)

Class 2b Sportsbike...(yzf-r125). I feel a bit overdress for a 2b sportsbike (comparing to a guy at my place who rides a gsxr1000 with only a tshirt, shorts, slippers and a flip-up helmet). But nonetheless, if u r to fall (touch-wood), it doesnt matter if u have a 50cc bike or a 1000cc bike regardless.

For leisure riding only and occasional commute when my car in the garage for modification/servicing :p.

-FF Flip up Helmet

-Komine Mesh Armour Jacket (got it from Motorworld ~$220) and bought additional rib and back protector :thumb:

-Komine Gloves (with knuckle protector) OR Nomax flight gloves

-Jeans and high-cut converse shoes (not sure if armour pants are an overkill...was contemplating on getting one)

When the wx is too hot.

-Tee-shirt with elbow guards:angel:

-the rest remains the same less the mesh jacket

Posted

I don't think armoured jeans are an overkill at all. If you have a job that allows you to wear them at work (maybe just remove the shells at work?) then go for it. If you can change to other pants before going to the office, go for it. If not, which is my case, just get yourself knee guards and wear them on top of your normal pants. That won't save your butt from road rash or worse but it will save your knees. And those will get hit pretty hard anyway you fall..

So yeah there's no such thing as an overkill and the cc of the bike has absolutely no part in the equation. People who think it does must Not be riders because otherwise they would know better, they'd know 60km/h can kill a man just as much as 180Km/h ..
