Takes some courage to admit that in a thread full of ppl who gear up at least partially. Well done on that. But do try gearing up bro. Take small steps like maybe get a pair of gloves or wear covered shoes. I don't like repeating cliche statements, but I'm sure you've heard that 'There are only two types of riders - those who have crashed, and those who are going to crash'. Maximize your chances of getting up and walking away when your time comes.

i am just posting my thoughts and neither i need courage nor doing confession here

i dont particularly pay special attention to protective gear. i am wearing what i feel convenient.

i'm wearing gloves coz half clutch is less painful through CBD traffic.

i'm wearing full face coz it's better for wind resistance

i'm wearing long sleeve shirt or jacket most of the time coz i have sensitive skin to direct sunlight.

i'm wearing long pants coz my bike's exhaust are just too close to my legs

but i dont mind riding with short pants, tshirt and sandals if friend call up for kopi (even sometime at Changi village)

had fair share of minor mishaps on road both singapore and malaysia, even at SSDC while taking licence) and SSDC e-brake crash on super4 was the most painful one :cheeky:

My thoughts:

I like dressing up to ride. Doesn't need to be proper track riding gear (I don't have any), but as @kmax has said aptly, some things are just too practical not to have.

If I dressed "normal" and sat on a bike I tend to slouch. Which looks unglam.

If I'm in knee/elbow armour, jacket and (industrial) gloves my riding posture is automatically perfect (back straight, slight lean forward behind the windscreen). Which looks glam :p

There was once many years ago I tried riding with flipflops. Couldn't stand it even if it was a 500m trip to the corner coffeeshop. Not to mention if there was any mishap I'd be out of action automatically because skin vs road = 100% lose.

Same for riding with shorts, T-shirts. I don't like the exposure and wind resistance from loose clothing.

I recently got a leather fur-lined jacket for midnight rides and love it. It's thick enough that abrasive protection is guaranteed, is surprisingly good in the rain (due to the leather 'armour' effect) and the padding is just right to help my posture (my waist is too thin). As for heat buildup, well, I'm riding in a constant hurricane force (100kph+) wind so?

Class 2A, dual sport trail bike.

Riding for daily commutes, leisure and rides to Msia.

ATT:

- shoei dual sport white full face helmet

- RS Tachi mesh jacket with upgraded hard back, but no CE cert

- above ankle riding boots

- fox gloves

- jeans (not really a gear)

SOTT:

- thor knee shin guard under the jeans

May put this on ATT aft i get a box for my new bike

Crash experience that got me into protective gears:

Got thrown forward from the bike while off roading in Msia over rocky terrain. Blast through a rut at speed, but the rut turned out to be a deep HOLE, hence got threw forward.

My full face shoei save my chin and cheek, and the elbow and knee guards also save me from abrasion.

I like gearing up for my rides wherever i go, be it for commuting to work or for leisure. It makes my ride even more enjoyable.

Like how bro Kmax put it, gearing up has its practical purposes:

Full face cos i dun like dust entering from under the visor when i wear open face.

Gloves cos i can get a better grip on the controls.

I wear long pants and covered shoes always cos i hate the feeling of flung up stones and road debris hitting my bare shin & feet.

So even in my most slackest times, a FF helmet and gloves are part of my essential gear whenever i hop on my bike even if its a 2 min ride to the neighbourhood coffee stall. I've only got 1 helmet which is my FF anyway.

I've only started wearing a mesh armoured jacket recently, i dun really consider it part of my essential gear that i put on always, but i wear it daily for commuting to work.

To add on what bro Kitten mentioned, it definitely makes u more glam clad out in protective gear! HAHA! A sure head turner. I notice my riding style and posture gets perfect too when i'm in gear. Maybe cos u know others might be looking at you and u wanna present yourself at your very best. hehehe. Since im wearing FF helmet, i dun have to worry about people identifying me and worry about getting embarrassed.

I wear my gears for safety & protection, that i look absolutely cool and glam in it is a pleasant side effect that i enjoy.

hehe.. i`m not brave.. just honest..

as often as u hit the roads, u know how much of the riders actually wear protective gear. i`m not particularly proud of my `unprotectiveness` but i`m just honest about my condition. i too had my fair share of falls and hits..

just to note, i don go north or abv 200 wo gear..

but daily riding, u`ll see me in berms and flops..

i tnk wearing my old open face does help in some way..

anything abv 140, the helmets starts to `want to fly off`

sort of a speeding deterrent as well..

i gave the ATGATT a try last times. lasted a week..

and i actually ride a lot faster to curb the heat..

so ended up i gave up the deal..

honestly i`ve seen more FF OTR these days.

well done to those who are ATGATT or MOTGMOTT..

just an honest advice to riders here..

Attitude is more impt than these gears..

riding like motoGP on our roads is not gg to save ur life, even if u dress like motoGP.

Ride safe and rgds,

Aurium

Ahhh, I worn T-shirt, berms, open face, no glove and racer slipper most of the time. Even on makan trip in Malaysia. Yes, sometimes I speed above 250kph in it. And did someone mentioned about busa rider wearing slipper? I guess, I'm guilty of it all. I used it to wear at least a full face, jeans and at least a sneaker but then laziness and heat slowly transformed me. I personally had fallen many times. Road rashes and broken bone didn't deter me. But as I'm getting older and got a commitment coming up, I tried to more safe. Nowadays I tried to wear at least a full face. Not much of a protection but then, I hope to slowly go toward MOTGATT.

heyman, when u free?

lets go ride again!

lol.. btw u were not the subject in my topic..

no offense dude..

Oh ya, it is Ohayo. Hahahaha... Erm, anything more than 150km to be consider in Dec. Cause going Hatyai during Nov deepavali holiday. Anyway it getting off topic.. Think better talk at the touring thread.

here's my opinion: in a 2nd-worst-case scenario, i can lose the use of my entire body in an accident. but if i can save my head & fingers, i can still think, type & talk to earn a living.

I got into an accident this morning. Can I say I owe the skin of my arms to Dainese. Not a scratch on my arms and palms thanks to the jacket and gloves I was wearing. My knees, however, had abrasions as I was wearing only office pants. If I were wearing my kevlar jeans then I would just have bruises. My boots protected me from injury too.

Ouch! Glad to hear at least your gear protected your upper body. Knee abrasions not TOO bad, I hope? How's the bike?

Bike damage to be assessed. I have a feeling I will be eating grass for the rest of the year...

Haiyah, Ducati parts damn expensive don't you know? Some more EUR has been flying through the roof.

Took a spill on the wet road this morning at about 70km/h.

Here are some pictures!

I've learnt my lessons. It's Kevlar jeans from now on!

Dainese, you cost a bomb but you are damn worth it!

Ahhh... Ducati. Then eating grass might be a very real option. Go green! Go vegetarian!

Some of my trousers have come to a similar end, unfortunately. The tear at the top pocket... did you have your phone in there? Did it survive all right?

I have a pair of heavy duty kevlar mesh jacket & pants too, but I can't wear them to work because (a) I look like The Hulk in that suit, and would get wayyy too many strange looks walking into office like that; and (b) there's nowhere to keep the stuff once I get here. So I end up wearing just my Komine armour+mesh jacket and leaving my legs vulnerable o_O

How about you, do your colleagues and work place take a relaxed attitude towards these things?

Sorry to hear about your accident, and glad to hear that you're almost unscathed.

In the wet, I still prefer to take the mp3 out instead of the bike. Now I will also try to behave and put on knee guards more often.

He who hesitates is lost!

Yeah my partner is also badgering me to learn how to use his MP3. This three-wheeled bike is too bleddy heavy and huge for me lah!!! But if I ride this bike, no problem with bring gear along because the storage space is so huge!
