i ride a piaggio x8, with the original jumbo box.. my box can fit in 2 helms, under seat can fit another 2 more.. 4 helmets in total.. i think the next bike i am changing too will also be a maxi scooter.. i think space/comparments is important for people who need it for transportation to school or work, so our documents/ laptops dun get wet or when go shopping dun need to carry around..

Current Rides:

CB400 Ver. S(Tri-color) - 2012

Do not ride motorbike with helmet in backpack.

If you incur accident, and land on your back, then the helmet in the backpack will break your spine.

Yeah. I heard abt this one. Unfortunately I'm still strapping it to my back. We got any carriers for this? (besides a box, I mean)

this is an old cbr right? all new sportsbikes cannot fit any readily available brackets and racks.

I need my boxes..for rain pants, jacket, helmet, bike cover, blah blah. I hate carrying helmet around when shopping. Tank bags you still hafta carry them around when you park :S

Guess I should never buy a sports bike, although I'd love to have one!

Box don't looks nice on bike.

I don't even bring my raincoat even when I'm out riding.

kudos to you. what if you are rushing for an appointment/work/school and its rains? stop below flyover and you will be late, carry on riding you will be drenched. i think at least need to carry a bagpack for raingear and other stuff.

yes i hate carrying my helmet or bag around when i go shopping too. but i see many riders carrying 2 open face helmets on 1 hand when they go shop.

I'd love to have 1 as well. only have they have racks for topbox or at least side panniers for helmets. then i would consider. nvm the fugliness. i can just remove the rack and go track!

But seriously, side panniers are...well side panniers. Not top boxes fitted onto the side as a side pannier replacement :-/

The more space you have, the more junk you carry.

 well said :thumb: I think I have to start changing to no boxes and learn how to adapt better.

would riding with a box with full load feel similar to riding with a pillion??

Top box yes.

Panniers will feel a lot different as their CoG is lower. In fact, it slows down your ability to flick quite significantly. Not to mention your ability to squeeze through traffic (which is very impt to me, hence no panniers in SG for me!)

For those guys riding cruisers, there's another solution for your pillion helmet. I installed a sissy bar and stuffed the helmet down on the sissy bar. For added security, I used a cable lock to ensure it doesn't fly off halfway.

The only problem is that this only works for FF helmets, and I'm one of the few cruiser riders that still insists on the FF. Don't try this with an open face. It doesn't work. I damaged a nice week-old vintage helmet that way. But for FF helmets 100% alright.

I also have been locking both helmets on the bike quite openly with the same cable lock for the last 3 years already. So far so good. It helps that I use cheap and plain looking HJC and RJays helmets though. I carry along the more fanciful and expensive helmets because that is simply the smart thing to do, even if you have a box. The lock is really not as secure as many people think.

my present set up for my super 4 is Givi wing rack with top box plate - only about 4++ months old, didn't have any boxes before that

but usually only ride with the panniers - e21's and leave the Maxia in the store room unless i need storage space.

as for handling, i don't find any big difference with or with out the boxes / panniers

then again, mebbe my panniers are not that full up

only have registration log papers, insurance, rain gear, bungee cords and a small bottle of water / first aid kit

one box is always empty for my bags etc.while riding, and jacket, gloves, head buff etc when not riding... Flip up helmet carried along

parking coupons and other really small stuff i put into the fairing pockets - i'm riding a Spec III Bold'or - there's 2 small pockets in the head fairing, left side is lockable, right isn't

Personally, a box is a must for me to put small little things in the box.. You wouldnt want your handphone or important documents to get wet during raining days.. I usually practice to put all my stuff in the box before move off..

Here, the rain wont call you if its coming.. Anytime..

But if you are riding a sports bike, it would be a different story..

You could try carrying Ziplock bags around in your bag, or plastic or nylon flat cases like the ones at Daiso for larger items like documents and clothes.

You mean you wanna bring that plastic bag around with you bro? How about your helmet then?

I usually carry a small Ziplock bag and sometimes a larger flat plastic case in my regular bag. They don't take up much space at all. If it rains I just put everything I don't want to get wet (eg. phone, wallet, iPod, documents) into the bags and cases, and then continue carrying them in my bag. I also have a spare Ziplock bag stuffed into my pillion seat in case I don't have a bag with me and it starts raining heavily, so I can protect my phone. If it's raining cats and dogs and I happen to have brought my raincoat I'll wear my raincoat jacket over my bag.

My helmet doesn't fit into any of my bags so I have to carry it around separately anyway, or I lock it to my bike if I'm parking in (what I think is) a safe car park.

Well, a box is still more convenient for sure, but that's how I'm surviving at the moment.
