Almost everyday see road works going on and some of these roads are still new.

let help suggest a better and smarter alternative.

I guess we will not be complaining if the quality of the road is built better, at least flat and smoother rite?

So far my experience is that the roads turn out to be:

- Ugly (due to difference in colour)

- Uneven surface (they only top up the area they dig and only 'plough' them by hand)

They have to ultilise our road tax mah. Anyway when they dig road, usually is due to some new building or construction nearby. Think should be either doing the water pipe or laying electrical cable etc to that area.

Whatever **** they are doing to the road,

1) they are doing it in the daylight - wrong timing

2) the road surface changes - causes slippery, uneven surface, or even pot holes.

As it was said - you pay peanuts (to the workers), you get peanuts.

These people are not digging the road for fun. You want to increase your standard of living, be prepared to live with all the upgrading going on.

If you don't want the road to be dug, there is always a third world country you can live in.

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

Ever ridden along Bukit Timah before? Terrible road surface + small turns here and there. Worse still, all happening on slopes.

I noticed last month that the result to certain stretches of highway 'resurfacing' is that the lane markers no longer match.

Traffic swerves left and right at high speed as everyone attempts to realign only to find they have somehow changed a lane. It's like playing those old driving games on consoles where steering is only straight or turn fully!

The high average travelling speed on main streets also makes any imperfections in the road surface very noticeable. Worse if your suspension is tuned for "sports handling". 90kph and then BANG - BANG lol :D

Roadworks used to be better. I don't recall any strange depressions in the resurfaced part after cable or water works some years ago.

Digging holes isn't the issue here - it's the crappy job of filling up the holes that's causing the complaint.

Road digging is fine.

As long as after they cover up the road, they level/even it out.

Sometimes, after the work is done, they leave behind those humps across the entire road. You try going across it at the speed limit 60? 70? and *WHAP* your suspension takes a beating. Worse thing, the humps are black and not marked.

Dunno why they don't level out those humps after they cover up the road.

all for the sake of cost cutting and profitability. No wonder so supermotards are so highly priced in Sg.

from my home to workplace 15mins at least encounter 3 uneven road lane.

all are patched after roadworks by contactors.

most of them created a long snake hump in the middle of the lane which was once flat and smooth.

Agreed! The road is so small and turns here and there made it so confusing.

Luckily I was there in the wee hours. Imagine how dangerous it can be during peak hours. Especially for us bikers.

if we don't dig, we will have electrical cables running above our heads.

agreed, it not about digging, but how they cover it back when they're done. at least have some standard when covering back. furthermore after a few month when confirm there's no more digging, they will dig out the whole stretch n level it out nicely. that's how our tax dollars r at work. :faint:

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i worked in the construction industry for 15 years. Half of the digging is "truly necessary" & most of all these works are done to "install" cables, pipes underground etc. These "permanent" works are "usually" covered up properly with the road being resurfaced nicely as they have to fulfill the terms in the contract with the budget inside already as it is the "main" project done by the installation contractor ( excuse my Singlish, i hope you understand )

unfortunately, increasingly nowadays, more than half the time the digging is for "trial" ( detection ) works to fulfill the requirements set by authorities. Contractors doing construction works do them for fear of being "fined" by the authorities ( long story, my english not too good ). These "temporary" works are done whenever the need arises & eats into the contractor's budget. They are "forced" to do it ( boh pian ) but are not paid for it as it is not in their "main" scope of work. So no surprise that the patching up is done as quickly & AS CHEAPLY AS POSSIBLE. There is no budget for these kind of temporary work. So this results in minimal patching up.

So that is why we have more & more of these "uneven" patches. If you still no understand my english...just remember it is all about money.

Maybe they don't want a repeat of something like SMRT but as long as people don't flip over, they can't be bothered about uneven roads. Everywhere dig2, may even cause accidents because on roads where people are used to going fast, suddenly in front of crest of the hill got road works, no time to deaccelerate, crash. Almost got into one recently because of the sudden deacceleration of traffic...maybe I wasn't paying much attention but still.

try tuas west for the roads and roadworks!

theres a whole stretch at tuas west drive where they literally put your suspension to the test, the whole stretch is uneven, almost like offroad riding!
