in terms of usable power, FC, monthly maintence cost, how many cc is enough for singapore city + expway riding and which bike suits the cat?

i have in mind the ninja 250r, super4, gsr400, new cbr 250r

do u guys think a 600cc is too much for sg roads?

assuming rider keeps to speed limit except maybe the occasional 100-120 on expway

or is a 250 just nice or not enough?

comments plz

wanna decide if its worth commiting myself to a large cc bike.

i guess yamaha xjr 400 will be a good choice .

- service cheaper than super 4

- tyre cheaper than gsr 400

- more power than cbr250r and ninja 250r

xjr400 could be a contender, i liked it, but no more new xjr400 now isnt it? so have to get a used bike

Frankly a kup is good enough for Singapore....

Get yourself a bigger CC bike if you want to enjoy your ride, feel good and go fast in Malaysia or Thailand.

Otherwise it's just not practical to own a bigger bike in Singapore as a daily ride with the amount of cars on the road nowadays.

DRZ is good IMO..

cheaper maintenance compared to inline4s..

better FC than Super4s..

highway cruisable speeds without breaking speed limits..

to a certain extend, crashable..

unlimited options to modify it if your pocket allows..

else it's a good work horse..

Any 4 stroke 125cc bike is enough for Sg roads...

most of the bikes can cruise at 100km/hr (either comfortably or the reverse)

Why go for higher cc bike? Well the response from the vehice are far appealing than the smaller cc. Heavier and stable, better equipment... 400cc motorcycle actually meet the requirement, least costly in insurance and road tax yet able to enjoy some decent power. But 400cc choices are limited, that's why some of us choose to upgrade so to enjoy all sort of fancy CLS2 motorcycle.

hmmm was thinking of getting a 600cc but i feel like im paying for so much un usable power on sg roads. even super4 to me feels a lil over powered. what kinda bike has the best range for expway curising n occasional burst of acceln?

A 4 stroke 250cc would be perfect on Singapore roads. That is my perception.

get a streetfighter, they usually have much better low and midrange... so nothing goes to waste.

pulsar, good fc, big tank. p200 just nice, 2b insurance/road tax, max of 110-130km/h, 200cc, comfortable for sg road.

with it's good fc n big tank, occasionly go for touring also no problem. :)

only complain is the expensive parts, but there r ways around it. ;)

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

I have been riding bikes for over a decade and owned bikes covering the bikes spanning the class 2b, 2a and 2 range.

Here is my take:

- Class 2B. Talking about 4-stroke bikes here. Will do fine in Sg. Great for parking and traffic jam. But sometimes lack acceleration power to get out difficult situation. Especially, these days, there are more and more 2-litre cars on the road which accelerates pretty fast. One alternative is scooters. As they have smaller wheels, they can accelerate faster than motorcycles with bigger and heavier wheels.

- Class 2A. The torquey street 400ccs like Super4, XJR, GSX, Monster are all almost perfect for Singapore. Powerful enough with enough acceleration to get out of harm's way, have an element of fun, yet not too difficult to park, squeeze.

Cruiser 400ccs (Shadows, Dragstars) are less powerful but are fine as well.

Also, the class2A scooters (Burgman) are fine as well.

- Class2. If you can afford a class2, it is fine as well. But be very aware of how the engine is configured. Some higher cc bikes are tuned to look good on paper with high horsepower, but in the process, they sacrificed torque in the low and mid rpm. This means that when you really ride them on the road, they have less pickup ability than the torquey class2A unless they drop gear. Such bikes include FZ6, sports bike 600cc.

If you buy these range of 600, then you really spend more money and for a practical ride, a super4 will do just as well if not better.

If you want a practical 600cc, go for traditional and torquey street bikes like Hornet 600. They are almost same size as Super4, but even more torquey.

The 1,000cc bikes have so much torque that they don't have the same issue as 600. But 1,000cc bikes of course, cost more.

this is what im concern about.

im contemplating between a 250 and a 400. obviously a 250 cant outrun a 400, providing both are 4 stroke, but i believe both are on par when used in singapore city riding right? any comments?

and maintenance wise, 250s have the best of both worlds right?

If it were me, I would pick 400cc. 400cc having 1.5 times more displacement, will naturally be more powerful than 250cc. 250cc is a mere 50cc more than a Class2B, isn't it?

I would think engine wise, a 250 and 400cc will not mean significant difference in terms of fuel consumption, oil change, spark plug.

was comparing the ninja250r parallel twin engine and the super4's inline4.

super4 seems to cost twice as much in regards to oil change.

then again, nothing can make up for the power difference.

if i were to look for a 400cc sports bike, what are the local choices?

cbr400

rvf400

gsxr400

did i miss out any?

well... for singapore rd my choice is 2B bikes for daily commute, coz they are more practical n also "convenience" during heavy traffic.. i'm working at construction sites n some have limited parking space.. worse some sites have to park on slopes... limited space n most 2B bikes can easily forward reverse to "blakang pusing"... :cheeky:..

i also have a class 2 bike for leisure n "hobby".. but i tell you class 2 bike is ain't no fun riding during heavy traffic n usually need more space when parking.. :sian:

o yaa miss out my small bike ride is rxz... depite the 2t smoke problem, maintenance i DIY... n petrol is so-so ok for me, about 30km / litre..

can also consider the 2011 cbr 250.... as has been said in many other threads, 2a sports bikes can be fun to ride but due to their age they can be expensive to maintain and repair...

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

My experience with the following bikes : s4 vtec1, hyosung comet gt250 and s4 vs.

S4 vtec1

- powerful

- high consumption 201km/l (relative)

- good for light touring.

Hyosung Comet Gt 250

- Lighter and easier to handle than s4.

- cheap oil filter, engine ~2bottles, 2 plugs(vtwin)

- 30km/l consumption

- top speed of 135km/h(GPS) make it stressful to tour.

S4vs

- No comments as it's a scrap bike bought cheaply.

I'll rate the 250 above the s4 because it's more ride able for Singapore usage. If you want to tour, forget the 250.
