Hi all

I'm very new here. I'm very interested to get a S wing. I juz wanna asked a few questions.

1. What is the difference between the Euro model and the Japan model?

(I kept hearing that the Euro model better, is this true? Better in what ways?)

2. I wanted black colour for the S wing but I hear the Euro model does not have it in black, only the dark metallic grey colour. The black colour is only Japan model. Is this true?

3. When bought 1st hand from agent, they will give 1yr unlimited mileage warranty. Parallel import models, the warranty is to the shop, so less warranty, only 3mths eg. Is this true?

4. The Japan model no longer available if I want to buy 1st hand. Only Euro model is available?

Can someone here with knowledge enlighten me?

Thank you!

Thanks Kris Rider and scoobydoo for the infomation. Now I have a clearer picture.

I have another question.

Recently I went to a bike shop to get a quote for a Swing. I told the sales person "everything in, OTR" then he quote me xxx price.

As his price was competitive, I went back to his shop the next day to confirm deal. But this time he say OTR is everything but NO IU UNIT. I have to buy it separately. He says thats the standard of OTR, except for IU unit. He says "Its OTR what? You wanna go into restricted area, then you have to borne your own cost of getting the IU unit lah."

So what do you guys understand from the meaning of "on the road" (OTR)?

For me I tot OTR means:

1. machine price

2. coe

3. rd tax

4. bike insurance

5. GST

and

6. IU unit

Is the salesman correct or I am wrong. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

OTR usually can consider everything in.

But some shops may have their own exclusion, i.e. no IU.

Best to find out from individual shop the final cost. Troublesome process.. but its your money you're talking about.

Some shops may quote a bit higher (100-200 more) but you can buy with much ease of mind. Anyway, can also ask for more gifts to offset any price difference.

It means everything including IU.

Some shop even have "agreement fee" if you sign for installment plan from them and may not mentioned to you.

Best to ask them their definition of OTR before they pull a fast one on you.

Some kind of extra charges involved for signing on an installment plan/loan. Some shop has it but I didn't get my SW from them.

You mean I still have to pay somemore even after I pay installment with interest?:giddy:

bike shops are not legally required to quote OTR with IU

before you commit and pay deposit, suggest you establish the full and final amount payable, which usually comprise of:

+ machine price

+ COE (no GST)

+ GST @7%

+ registration

+ insurance

+ road tax (only 6 months)

+ loan interests

+ admin/agreement fees

+ others, etc...

shops' OTR quotes are usually based on criteria of a "minimum" loan amount and will charge extra if its a zero-loan purchase or too little loan taken. they want to cover the "loss" in loan interests income

also suggest you confirm these with the shop:

+ colour of bike

+ estimated collection date

+ if not taking loan, need to top up how much? e.g. BP quoted me an additional $400 for cash purchase

+ if taking loan, what is interest rate, min./max. loan amount/period and interest p.a. (usually straight line fixed interests)

+ terms and conditions of loan, e.g. any reminder before towing if forget to pay on time, penalties for late payments, any early settlement fee/discount, etc.

+ COE... use a new bid under your name or use shop's on-hand COE

+ what type of insurance is given in OTR price... e.g. BP's OTR give me 3rd party, Looi's OTR give me 3rd party fire & theft

+ any waiver of agreement fee if longer loan periods, e.g. Looi's offered to waive agreement fee if i take 2 or more years loan and above certain amount

+ others, etc...

one very important reminder... make sure all special offers or promises are written in "blank and white" on something indicative of the shop (e.g. memo or invoice). many shops have defaulted on their promises and there're lots of such cases (you'll find many cases posted in the forum). verbal promises are mostly unreliable

good luck for your bike hunt... :goodluck:

yup... heard that there's no such "goodies" anymore :(

finance companies give rebates to encourage full pay up so as to minimise risk especially during bad times. but since buyers are so kwai in making payments and times are good, shops' turn their attention to maximising returns:faint:

guess only hassle free full settlement is when you do it upfront :cheeky:

btw, how many people actually bother to read through meticulously the contract they're entering into? seems most will just sign on the dotted line assuming that terms and conditions in it is the "norm", i'm equally guilty at times :p

when things go wrong, the nightmares start :giddy:

FYI, there's a Unfair Contract Terms Act which helps to ensures that contracts are fair to all parties. however, onus is on the contesting party to prove that the contested term(s) or clause is(are) unfair... mostly pretty tough :deal:

Unfair Contract Terms Act

8.5.14 Finally, the limits placed by the Unfair Contracts Terms Act (Cap 396, 1994 Rev Ed) (the ‘UCTA’) on the operation and efficacy of exceptions clauses must be considered. It should be noted that the UCTA generally applies only to terms that affect liability for breach of obligations that arise in the course of a business or from the occupation of business premises. It also gives protection to persons who are dealing as consumers. Under the UCTA, exception clauses are either rendered wholly ineffective, or are ineffective unless shown to satisfy the requirement of reasonableness. Terms that attempt to exclude or restrict a party’s liability for death or personal injury resulting from that party’s negligence are rendered wholly ineffective by the UCTA, while terms that seek to exclude or restrict liability for negligence resulting in loss or damage other than death or personal injury, and those that attempt to exclude or restrict contractual liability, are subject to the requirement of reasonableness. The reasonableness of the exception clause is evaluated as at the time at which the contract was made. The actual consequences of the breach are therefore, in theory at least, immaterial.
