Just bought a OGK FF4... 210 @ LAB (free helmet bag)

use it for touring... find it not bad... light and pretty good ventilation.

Do you mean look out for FF4 air vents and lip vents?

yea i meant FF5 airvents and lip vents.

Mine all came off in less than 2 months and had to email to OGK Japan for replacements.

Thankfully they gave me the parts without any fuss and at no charge also.

If i knew FF4 is much better den FF5, i would have bought FF4 and saved my money at the same time.

FF4 quite light, tight but not creating undesirable discomfort...

Is FF4 SNELL and DOT approved?

so how did u secure the new parts? did they provide any adhesive tape?

i got an ff5 yesterday and i noticed some parts were loose. so i brought it back to regina and the guy there helped me redo all the adhesives for all the parts. seems quite solid now. i've noticed on my ff4 that the vents and all are also pasted on using this adhesive tape thingy. so i guess all helmets do that.. just that duno y the adhesives for ff5 from the factory sucks big time.

but my helmet rocks now! hahaha. fits great and even more comfortable than my ff4.

They provided the adhesive tapes and i used it together with Epoxy Glue to sercure it.

I guess the original tapes that came with the helmets might have degraded over time as the helmets prob have been manufactured and stored for sometime before pple buy them.

yea.. but i never had any issues with ff4 before. in fact, i broke my ff4 air vents from a hard drop.. the vents rather break instead of getting loose lol.

:cheer:

well, potential ff5 buyers do not get discouraged, but make sure u check each attachment on the helmet upon purchase. if u dont feel safe, u can get some shop or diy to reattach each part.

psb approved, so if it matters to you, i guess this is another helmet u can consider. helmet strap is secured using the traditional D-ring mechanism.

helmet noise levels, slightly better than ff4. but much quieter than hjc fg-14. which was another helmet i used to wear.

fits much more comfortably for my head as compared to the ff4, and the ff4 was already a great helmet to begin with in terms of comfort. the cushion material is nice and soft and its design is suppose to help disperse perspiration or sth like that. im using an L size, but it seems like i can fit into my friend's M (seasoned cushion). so i think there is only a slight difference in terms of size..

ar ventilation is superb.. u can even see the airflow to the top of ur head with the vents open. i seldom leave them open tho as the ventilation is enough. the only vent that i ever toggle would be the one at the mouth area.

visor is clear, slides up and down very smoothly. unlike the ff4, it does not have a super strong "click" to fully close it, but i feel it does seal properly. it does not have a position to crack it open slightly for demisting but i dont think there would be any problems as air ventilation is crazily good for this helmet. havent ridden in the rain yet tho.. will update on this.

the graphics are great but i got the plain black one. besides the plastic pieces issue, the paintwork and finish is great.

in summary, i will recommend this helmet @ a reasonable $300 from regina but you MUST check the vents and other parts to make sure they are not loose.

overall rating: 8/10

value for money: 8/10

air-ventilation: 10/10

noise level: 7/10

comfort: 10/10

visor: 7/10 (needs a small crack for demisting imo)

quality: 5/10 (would bump it up to 9/10 after you fix the issue with the vents and plastics)

recommended: YES :thumb:

great review... sadly due to budget constraint only can settle for FF4

but like ya mention OGK FF seems to be a good start for beginners.

Guys, do you know where I can find the FF5 Scream red like this one?

I asked Regina and Ah Boy but they don't have it. Anyone bought one recently?

How much now? Thanks!

I now see FF5V listed on the official OGK website, instead of FF5. Anyone knows what is the difference?

Is Regina still selling FF5 or has it switched to FF5V? Anyone who bought recently can reveal the price?

I have been looking at helmet reviews and read that the FF5 (and FF4/FF3) are all lighter than the Arai RX7, and is comparable to the HJC HQ-1 Carbon (unfortunately not PSB approved). What a revelation!

EDIT: Just called Regina. The FF5 is on sale for $300 (solid colour) and the FF5V is not in stock yet.

EDIT2: FYI, FF4 (non-Snell version) is quite a bit lighter than FF3 and FF5, according to reviews. In fact, it is even lighter than the HJC HQ-1 Carbon (which is not PSB approved), the Shoei X-11 and the Arai RX7-RR4. Those looking for the lightest PSB-approved full face helmet (including myself) can rejoice!

Anyone can comment? C

Comparing FF5 and AGV Airtech.... which is:

Lighter?

Less Noise?

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmet-weights.htm

This is a rather comprehensive database on helmet weights. Unfortunately it doesn't have data on the Airtech. However, you can compare the FF5 with some famous helmets like the Arai RX7-RR4 or Shoei X-12. Surprisingly, FF5 is lighten than both more well-known helmets, and is on par with some carbon-fibre helmets.

As of yesterday, FF5 is only available in black. The salesman at Regina asked for $300 and was quite firm. Luckily, another forumer was also there to get the FF5. So we bargained together and managed to cut it down to $280 per piece after threatening to walk out.

Since my chief consideration was weight, here is my confirmation: the FF5 (size M) weighs less than my current Arai RX7-RR4 (size S). According to the helmet manual, sizes XS, S and M uses the same shell. Then sizes L and XL each has its own shell.

Feedback from previous posts about loose fittings is also accurate. The chin vent was slightly loose and I am going to replace the mounting tape once it starts peeling off. Same for the top air vents. The breath guard didn't fit exactly probably due to the long time in storage. I will try to get it back in shape by pressing it every time I wear it. :)

Overall, it is well worth the $280. PSB approved some more.

Alright, the mounting tape finally gave way and I had to re-mount all the external fixtures. It was not difficult, but I should have been more careful when choosing my method. Some of the pieces sit flat on the helmet so they are no issue. But some are curved and slightly stressed, so they don't stay where they are. No good if you are using a liquid glue.

And one more caution - be careful if you want to use UHU or any other solvent-based glue. They can damage the clearcoat if you smear them out. Use sparingly and err on the hidden side (let it spill onto the area that will eventually be covered). Otherwise you will have a mess to clean up and a potentially roughed-up helmet. I got by using toothpicks to apply the glue.
