Live with it... nothing much you can do even protesting won't help.

SBT #1149 Price List

Waiting to see when bike's COE is more than the price of a 2B motorcycle (road ready). 2014 year end?

Posted (edited)

I was tracking the bid and basically until the last 20minutes and at 300 bids submitted, the price was still $1. Then it basically jumped ! This shows that there is perhaps some who bid at 1 and the next lot of bidders/dealers were pegging the bids at 4k or more to secure bikes for the customers...and kaboom, thier bid prices strike lottery!

Something is definitely not right here. Lets analyse why this has come about? Why is it Not possible that everyone bid at say 100....why 4001? I think if you study the system carefully with the results, you will know the problem.

At the end of the day these bike shops still get to sell their bikes (no loss to them) but the poor buyer has to pay for this....go figure.

Note..i too am one of those suckers who will now have a 4k coe.

Will it go higher? Most probably unless all buyers dictate what they can manage and bid.which is probably never going to happen.

Probably the govt and its no secret, they are the ones who earn the most from COE. I mean bike shops don't earn from COE and high COE hurts bike sales so why bid anything more than a dollar?

$4000........

Theres nothing we can do.

Unless someone is hero enough to Protest to Government

Well either you vote the govt out or ehemEgyptSyriaehem. I honestly think that democracy here is just something to give Singaporeans hope where there is none, like a less extreme version of North Korea's voting, I mean there hasn't been any other party in power since the birth of Singapore and I doubt the PAP will let that change so easily, if not they wouldn't be fielding all these unpopular and stupid policies if they were scared of getting voted out.

I thought so too. It must be the garment behind the scenes, manipulating the COEs.

Its not the govet that did. I am very sure its the shops. this is where the part where i am unsure. all the while it was $1. Then the bid start increase. does it mean at exactly when the bidding stops, the last price wins?? then why not the bidders bring it down. if 100 different people who wants to see the price down, can they then bid at that time say $1000 or soo.

if we look at car coe, we will notice many cars are actually at shops NOT being sold but have the latest SK@ series. this means its the shop who bid the price and have to accept what they bidded and hoping some stupid buyers will get attracted with their plans or offers

dealer won't care how much is the COE. if it goes up, they will earn more through interest for those under hire purchase.

in china, they go by lottery system something like BTO. if you manage to get the cert, you have to buy a car within a certain period of time. the cert is non-transferable to another person maybe except when selling the car. not too sure how their system actually work but it sound much better then ours.

of course, to our greedy government the higher it is the better. not only the limited COE to control car population but also fill their pocket. government allowing the dealer is to jack up the price to serve their purpose. same trick they employ for public housing.

I think Sg gained inspiration from chine when it comes to bikes. In china, at least in big cities, bikes are considered polluting, and not synonymous with a developed country, so bikes is not encouraged.

Beijing uses the lottery system has resulted in motorcycle plates going for 4k sgd, but these are hard to get so the outside price is about 8k sgd for a 京A plate which can be used in the city.

Shanghai uses a bidding system and bike plates are about 16K SGD and this is just for a 沪A plate that can be used in the inner ring roads ( city).

Prices fluctuation are a direct result from supply and demand. The gahment role in it is to reduce the supply in the COE case. However, if the demand is not high, the prices won't increase much too. Currently, the bike market in SG is maturing as we can see more expensive machines on the road compared to 10yrs ago. High end brands like Ducati, BMW are launching new models in SG too, why? It is costly to sell them because of the support they need to provide and high sales is req sustain the market, no one wanna sell a 50k bike and train techs to service them if there is like 1 sale only. Clearly, even bikes sales are targeted at leisure/performance orientated customers just like now COE for cars are at 70+k and most sales are for brands like BMW and Mercs.

However, for us commoners, there is always a booming used bike market as most leisure owners offen sell after 2-3yrs with low mileage at much lower price. Like now there is this 2yr old Ducati 848EVO@5k mileage going for 24k, new is 34k. The only downside is cl2b may suffer as the OMV of such bikes are often 5-8k new and COE at 4k is like almost 50-80%.

What COE does is to let us compete with rich owners but we still stand to gain from second market as there are more and more exotic brands available. Seriously, new bikes depreciate the moment you push out of the shop. And sadly, it prevents me from owning a new bike now..

Nothing to lose.

Ok let the rich change new cars like change underwear.. I don't care if its Ferrari or Lamborghini.. But..

throughout the years since coe was introduced, many have been pushed to scrap their 10 yr old cars and forced to change as it was more favorable to finance another due to ever rising coe costs..

If really the intention is to control traffic and not to manipulate why not leave us average john doe alone instead of imposing this ridiculous amount after every 10 yrs of paying say 30-50k through our nose and extort another 70-80k just to keep our cars?

Seriously the coe system is so flawed!

No use cry father cry mother la.....if G will listen, it is only to the majority. Bikers are a minority so we are the sacrificial lambs for the slaughter. Take the COE quota from bikers to appease the car owners. I don't blame the car owners though. What to do loon some more.

Got it. It will not stop sales. It might decline abit but with all these zero downpayment plan and instalments that are so called affordable every month of course people still buy. The illusion of making it affordable is the trick.
