a friend of mine also got a similar device... got one occasion the men in white stop him for that. say must keep it covered while riding in sg, like those hella fog lamps, need to keep it covered.

i've got a friend that installed 2 strips of red led until his tailboard and it only lights up upon braking. he called LTA to check if it is legal and they said that as long as it is red in colour then it is legal.

fortunately for us then.

for my case, i had no time to react coz was daydreaming. so just brakeeeeeeeed.

i could have swerved right, but as another fellow rider once told me - braking all the way and eventually crashing (at a much slower speed) could be better than swerving to a faster lane, coz the faster lane could have a faster vehicle coming up! so inctinctively i tot to brake.

i second that! braking at times can be a better choice than swerving imho.

slow-speed impact beats high-speed impact or a skid into something else.

gotta rem that tire traction is limited. either hard braking, or hard swerving. hard braking + hard swerving = skid. (unless you're on track with sticky tires and all that and where the runoff isn't a lampost or railing).

have crashed before. right turning car from thomson road into novena church. checked side lane for exiting vehicles, turned back and a blue suv was stopped in the middle of the road crosswise. just braked hard and stayed upright till impact. hit and popped off, landed standing up. only thigh bruised from handlebar impact and shoulder + wrist sprain + pain. was in full gear, so the shoulder injury was prolly reduced by abit.

like this, can say, sure, swerve left or right. what if the sec you choose to swerve right and behind and the car jam brake early? all your traction gone into swerving, cannot brake, else skid. swerve left, assuming car doesn't speed up, if it does, t-bone steak for dinner anyone?

of course, best would be brake + swerve, either way, i vote brake as first reaction! i went from prolly 60kmph to 10 in less than 30metres or so. naturally, if you're already observing the traffic and can see a situation developing, you can adjust your strategies, e.g. swerving accordingly. imho though, in emergency situation, i'd rather risk crashing at low speeds! ymmv

oh, i ride with 2 fingers on the brake all the time. even when moving off or on the expressway. it was a pain in the ass to have to remember "NO FINGERS ON THE BRAKES" while taking CL2A.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

really? which school enforced this? Instructor didnt remind me to remove my fingers from the brakes as im used to it too.

yes jack, sorry i meant a stoppie. Wondering if it would be possible with your cub's tyres or only bigbikes, sports bikes which have thicker front tyres? have u seen any instances of mat rempits pulling one off?

not going to mention school names, but was cautioned about it for sure. said they don't wanna see fingers on the brakes esp during crank course / figure 8 and more importantly, for e-brake. for crank/figure8, think they considered it improper technique. since the course prescribes use of rear brake only. having fingers on the front brake may indicate that one is using the front instead. at least that was what i was told. e-brake, likewise, pre-empting the braking maneuver. it made sense, so didn't argue, just learnt how to ride the "school" way and passed the darned thing.

oh, ya i remember now that crank, figure 8 not supposed to do it because you shd use rear brake to control your speed. (some sch say use clutch to control speed, but i find using rear brake easier than playing with the clutch to control power in the curves)

dun think they bother about the fingers on brake for the rest of the course though.

I didn't mean swerve. What I meant was to brake and enter the right lane. U have more room to stop there.

while braking, you are still moving.. so you still can move to the other lane to have more room to yourself..
