One precaution is to apply silicone onto the clip. Clip links are not that weak actually.

Yes, because in actual fact, the pin are actually the one holding the chain together. The clip is just to make sure the pin stay there. But somehow there is still a chance it will drop out. I experience it myself before. Now I only swear by rivet links.

Silicone sounds like a good idea but if a person like me wash the chain with kerosene, won't the silicon drop out sooner or later also?

soon maybe suntec and marina will join the wagon to start charging

Choi! Touch wood. I still want to enjoy my free parking loh. Don't sway mouth

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Yup but did u knw that sumtyms its easy yo overtighten rivet link? If the mech kuku, might just screw up ur link. Btw wat i do was i clean the clip area wif contact/brake cleaner (abit only, dont get into the joints) then apply. Wont come off even wen washing chain. Maybe after sumtym will la, but its so easy to re-apply.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

Using clip link instead of rivert?

What's the difference between clip link and rivet link? Mine is using the chain where u need to slide the link into the holes of the start and end of the chain, put the washer, then slide the clip holding the washer into place... That's a clip link?

That is a clip link or in proper terms the master link. Most people claimed that is the weakest link but I however feel that its only weak if not installed properly or taken care of.

Not sure how it can be overtighten. I thought it a simple clip on only. Anyway too troublesome to keep monitor the clip. Just one time rivert during chain changing and one less worry also especially on long trip. But thanks for the tips though.

I believe what he mentioned about over tightening the rivet link is when too much force is applied when staking the rivet. Excessive force can cause the end of the rivet to split. And for tools which don't have the spacer to hold the plates at the correct separation, can wind up with a tight spot or bulging O-ring.

Had an accident on tuesday at Jurong Island highway on lane 1 at 70km/h. I think a hit a pot hole or a large stone... front wheel jumped up and lost control of my pcx... skidded and rolled for 100m and the bike +50 more m before it hit the concrete wall of a bridge...

was wearing jacket and thick pants so only escaped with road burns on both hands and some minor abrasions on my right leg...

ouch... there goes 1 good bike... :(

Quick impression of being back and riding in Singapore after a 6 day ride around the Mae Hong Son loop. In northern Thailand you really need to pay attention to the road all the time, very twisty, very steep roads you just can't get carried away and go too fast into a blind corner. Damp patches from small mountain streams, massive potholes, side of the road collapsed, construction work, lots of hazards. Did 1000km without any incidents or scares, many polite drivers giving way, and extraordinarily friendly riders on the road.

Back in Singapore, roads are flawless, straight, very little elevation changes but here it's like other drivers are trying to kill you. So strange having to readjust completely, from having to watch the road, to having to watch other drivers.

Was riding on the ECP between Bedok and Changi on Friday, late morning, very few cars, I'm doing 105/110 in lane 1 overtaking slower traffic when I see a car in the mirror approaching very fast. Experience on the NS highway in Malaysia tells me he must be doing at least 150km/h so I just get out of his way and move to the 2nd lane. He whizzes past on the right but 3 seconds later I get the scare of my life when the friend he was racing blasts past me on my left doing in excess of 160km/h. I just had not spotted there was a second car. One of the most reckless things I've seen in a long time.

Welcome back! Yes, indeed it's different riding style from Thailand -> Malaysia -> Singapore. In 24 hours, it's possible to experience the change in the 3 countries LOL

I still remember the journey from Chiang Mai -> Pai -> Mae Hon Song. Nice roads and Pai had nice scenery as well. I heard Pai is now a tourist spot.

You aren't kidding if it was really 100m. Good to hear that you had jacket and thick pants on! Invest in a pair of good gloves la, that will prevent the hands from getting injured since we use that to break out fall first.

Speedy recovery to you. Hope the bike isn't totaled..?

Just got back from my first short joy ride with my GSR400 to familarize myself more with handling my recently bought GSR... Went through neo tiew and jurong road, met a Hayabusa rider and a Kawasaki Z750or Z1000 rider. I realize when riding bigger bike on the road, other riders see you more of a biker than just a commuter, and "Hi" goes around :D Enjoyed it even though I was solo. :)

The speed strips scare me. Lol.

in the wee hours of the morning oso fun. 2-3am. very chilly and misty. quite cool! just dont let ur thoughts run wild.

the speed stripes are irritating, but the section nearer to LCK road got some sharper corners. can be quite fun. but careful, cux the surface usually littered wif mud/ruts/leaves. one slip = goodbye.

Lol, scares me on my GSR too, but when I was on my CBR150R I just kinda ran through it (not so fast of course) cuz I was more confident on that. :S

Good road for building up confidence on bendy roads but of course, not speeding and crossing the center line. Blind turns almost always have vehicles close to the center line, unless its very late at night.

It always delivers the fun factor, just that I realize in the last year or so, it got smellier from the fertilizers and stuff. Don't remember it being that smelly so frequently when I was there back in 2011. =B

and yes, quite sandy just before/after the bends when I was there.

Sad for you. I learnt my, but it wasn't so bad. I was going for my 2A theory lesson, and I didn't wear my jacket/long sleeve taking things for granted thinking that it was only a short ride. But I did wear gloves though. Fell and slide for a short distance, scraped my elbow but hands were fine... Now I try to wear most of my gear every time I ride.

won't be surprised if they do....greed.

but if they start charging, the management better damn well get some bike parking lots in.

the one in suntec is bloody pathetic and the bikes have to resort to parking in between pillars because there's not enough bike lots.

Don't stir the hornet's nest.. Not these nest at least. Cost my bike always nest there when I decide to go shopping. I'm the ybr rider who commented on your impluse 400 at the IBP junction.

Things always happen when we're not prepared for it. But was glad that I was in my riding boots when I crashed into a lorry. Without gloves. Lol. Just be thankful that you're still able to type here.
