do a search does takes longer than creating a new topic..

anyway, the answer for your linked topic is here.. searched within seconds.. explained with pics..

Shinhwa: just a suggestion, maybe can combine thread instead of closing it..

yeah. some threads can be left "open" for possible further discussion.

some forumers still want to post, or even the threadstarter may still have stuffs to comment further.

what's with the "trigger-happy" closing of threads?

if someone want to ask related questions, they have to open a new thread?

isn't it more messy?

examples,

i want to know whether the TS got the service and how much it costs him

combining of threads is being practiced rite?

to the TS, using of search mode is something for u to master. if others can extract the info, i dun c y u can't. its either incorrect word, term or spelling is used. simple as that.

I hope we can have more freedom on a cyber forum like this, we already stay in a city with heavily regulated rules which makes ppl scared to talk :giddy:....on other forums i joined, normally they leave the rights of closing thread to the TS, ofcos the mods still can step in if TS is posting non-sense or some not nice thing is going on there :thumb:

We know it's always easy to create a new thread. This bike make had been around long enough and most of the problems, enquiries, FAQ, Q&A already existed.

It's not about trigger happy closing of thread but cleaning up the forum, merging of similar topics, changing of appropriate title, removal of non relevant threads, etc.

Bro simpleme & bro palmer had specifically create a SBF CB400 Official FAQ & Live Q&A Thread for members. Bro Shinhwa been doing his best to focus on cleaning up the forum so that it'll be easier for members.

My view is that abundant information not process are junk. Alot of valuable infomation are hidden within the threads and processing it will enable new riders to obtain what they want more effectively. Pruning away these old thread will means loss of information for the community.

Hope this clarifies and it goes down well with the TS.

Well..The question the TS is asking had alrdy been answered..& i think the amount of information given is relatively enough..tat's y i closed the thread.

do a search does takes longer than creating a new topic..

anyway, the answer for your linked topic is here.. searched within seconds.. explained with pics..

Shinhwa: just a suggestion, maybe can combine thread instead of closing it..

Yes..i can simply merge the threads together..but there's quite alot of ppl who really doesn't know how to use the search button & new threads will start coming out again..

eg; if u r looking for ways to prevent back splash, u won't b typing 'how to prevent back splash' in the search function rite? the thing & the main word is 'mud flap' & everything regarding it will come out..

yeah. some threads can be left "open" for possible further discussion.

Well..i dun think it's a v happy thing to always close down thread which is always repeating the topic..

my point of view, u can always PM the TS & ask him how much did he paid for changing the cushion..or best enough, go down to the place given to ask the boss abt the price..won't it b better?

IF the TS had alrdy changed the cushion, but didn't come back to the forum & post or simply forgotten tat he had started the thread b4 as the thread had alrdy moved to few pages bhind, are we going to leave the thread there, & hopefully wait for some1 to dig it out again, or wait for some1 to start a new thread asking the same thing again?

yes..combining the threads together should b done..but do u know how many pages we haf for s4 mah? last time is 100+ wor :giddy: now tat i've cut it down to 90+ & still trying to cut down more..i've to go thru every of the thread 1 by 1 to c the contents & decide whether its useful or relevant in-order to b able to merge with similar topic later on.

Even if i merged the threads together, there still will b ppl starting new threads b4 doing a search 1..

yes..we r in sillypore..a place where we can't speak openly..even in forums..if i'm going to ask all the TS b4 closing the threads, how many am i going to ask!?!? :giddy: 90 over pages wor..each page is 50 threads :sian:

just a suggestion. mayb the S4 thread shd practice compiling everything to the FAQ thread? n every single topic discussed shd b linked there so that every discussion made earlier would b made used of effectively n have further discussion from there. instead of asking again n again n answering again n again. n strongly encourage forumers to refer to the FAQ pages to source b4 asking anything.

aiyah, i think i just got to accept the way it works lah huh. sorry if i offended anyone.

i too personally own a pte forum. so i understand the bandwidth and its pain. nonetheless, maybe my 1cent worth of knowledge to share here. the forum i owned encourage new threads to be opened as it creates traffic and we do knowledge management where we extract good stuff and maybe it downloadable in xml or word. threads older than 2 weeks are pruned off. besides, i think there will be more ppl looking at new threads than old ones.

however, if u guys think that i am lecturing or telling u wad to do. there is always this simple function of banning and deleting my account.

Hi Fraggershell,

1stly, we appreciate your kind inputs on how to encourage more discussion and to manage existing threads, and also understand our pain in making CB400 forum a more organized environment. To set things straight,

We welcome every user to maximize this forum to search for every relevant information they need , eg. ur case , u need to know more info abt mud guard and accessories.

We also welcome every user to contribute their wealth of knowledge to our biking community, to share and to enlighten us with knowledge not everyone knows.

We do not close our doors to users who needs to extract or see more views of others pertaining to certain discussion of an issue.

Now here lies the problem, as usual and mentioned countless times b4, new threads that are being created in CB400 forum DOES NOT create traffic or usage views in CB 400 forum.

Most of the time what are the problems we face here are (not in reference to anyone) :

1) Some Users ask the same question that was being asked by another user 2-3 days back.

2) Some Users happily click "new topic" button as a quick fix to their issues

3) Some users are oblivious to the sticky threads that already answer their issues that can be found in SBF CB400 Official FAQ & Live Q&A Thread. Worse still , some do not notice on the middle right of your screen at the top of this forum page , there is a function known as search.

End up , we receive feedbacks that CB400 forum is messy with so many topics. People give feedback saying too much information to sieve through. Merging and pruning all the 90+ pages of threads is not an easy task to do as ShinHwa has explained.

I would like to reiterate that not all old threads are locked. Some are locked because its a straightforward question , then answer , or most likely, that question or discussion has been posted just 2-3 days back

Lastly, i sincerely hope fraggershell , u take no offence in ShinHwa's action of locking the thread as he is trying to make this a more conducive and organised environment.

---------

Side topic: For those who said our search function is slow, i just did 10 search of various bike issues such as carbon brush , broquet etc etc. with abt 350 users using our forum at this time 10:07 pm Saturday night

I can get what i want to see in less than 0.70 seconds on average.

So its either 1) your computer is slow, (ok im running on a 10mbps connection p4 2.4 computer)

2) you are running on 56k modem or lesser (this era still have?)

3) your computer has virus that is slowing your browsing speed

4) you happen to visit our site on perhaps a maintenace day
