Needless to say, insurance and road tax quite expensive. But then again, you only live once.

Well said... :cheer:

i'm agree wit u guys,no such thing 2nd bike 4 me,especially 2b bike,

i had enough experience wit 2b bike and the impact as well.

big bike more safer in term of handling, braking and will absorb impact too.

quite weird if keep changing between class 2 and 2b,

I cannot agree with you there.

lighter bikes are best for work and transport, despite their limitations, their benefits outweigh them.

1. Bikes consume less petrol because they weigh less. Same reason why cars consume more petrol, since they weigh more.

2. To attain higher speeds, a bigger, heavier engine is needed. To support the bigger engine, a stronger (and often, heavier) frame is needed. This increases the bikes' fuel consumption, and the power wont feel directly proportional as the engine needs to lug around more weight as well.

3. If you keep increasing the engine displacement, there will come a time where the weight of the engine and the frame would work out to be counter productive.

this is the mechanical variant of the evolution limitations. an elephant can only grow to be so big, same as the bike. this is why we hardly see any 3 liter bikes. seems like i got off topic for a while there. :slapforehead:

I used to have a CBR1000RR for track and a DRZ400SM for transport.

Then both became transport and track bikes. Then I sold off the CBR coz it was getting too damn expensive for track use. I now have 2 DRZ400SMs, an 06 and an 07.

The next step is... one DRZ will be off roaded, souped up to factory race specs and purely for racing only. The other will be for transport and track practice.

I must be going nuts but I have always dreamt of owning a race bike and now want to make that dream come true :D

Haha... same here. I went to track once a month or once in 2 months. So rode the R1 for like 1 day a week. Since I always go out with my GF, and she hates pillioning on the R1, we mostly used the S4 for going M'sia eat or tour.

Phantom use to go to work. S4 for M'sia outing and tour. R1 sit at home bah long long. In the end, used as a 2nd link tanker for the Phantom if it's not going to track. :D

ya.. haha. nut in de long run, not worthed it la. too troublesome le..

btw, owning 2 bikes is fun. its like 2 gfs, just tat they wun complain at all. haha. take 1 out having fun, while de other one waits for u at home. and mod here and there also fun too. my R1 is mod fast and stuff, SP same. spark135 mod sound system. its a bit of money, but its fun cos u can have de best of both worlds, in big bikes and small bikes.

i'm having as much fun i have on each bike. its better cos when u ride big bike, pp look at u liddat. when u ride small bike, pp look at u differently. its gd cos u'll know wat type of pp they are. i've seen a few. i dun care how pp look at me riding whatever bike. as long as i'm having fun riding my bike.

owning 2 bikes need 2 insurance? or gt combine one and cheaper?

If you own at least 3 bikes, have a very good record, and have a very good insurance broker, you could ask for a fleet policy instead of individual ones. I know of someone who does that.

Working in the city means that the automatic scooter (MP3 250) is my choice for the congested roads and stop-and-go conditions. I find this happening in most big Asian cities too.

Outside of the rush hours, and outside the city, that's where the class 2 bike would be better used.

I have a different POV. I don't believe in having transport + fun bike. For most riders, their dream will be some sort of Class2 bike. When I got my dream bike, I wanna be able to ride it every damn day that I can so I get the most kick & value for $$ that I paid for my dream. IMHO, it can't truly be a dream/fun bike if you find that riding it for transport is a pain.

Having a dream bike that I can only ride on weekends, is a no-no for me. I paid close to $20k for my Class2 bike, its fun to ride & I love it. Therefore, I'm gonna ride it every time I need to get on the road. Period.

i also hv a dif POV. i hv a 2B dream bike n a CL2 dream bike. so by hving both i've fulfill 2 dreams.

Sometimes its not just the money saved in petrol costs, but also the amount of convenience of having a 2nd bike, can't put a price on that.

For example, its much more comfortable and less stressful to be stuck in a traffic jam in a scooter compared to an overheating sportbike.

Or a Busa or ZX14.

for me,

Spark135 - for transport

FZS1000 - for my weekends & my northern trips & as and when i feel like riding it..

I have my reasons for having 2 bikes...

I used to ride my fazer for a year to work before i bought my spark as a 2nd bike. To and fro to work is about 72kms. So i did some calculations before i decided to get a small cc transport bike..

On my fazer, I have to top up fuel after 3 days of work.. if follow current price of 95unleaded esso, about $2.206 p/l,

16l x $2.206 = $35.30

as each month i work 20days,

$35.30 x 7 ( number of top-ups needed just for work per mth ) = $247.10

$247.10 - 5% discount = $234.75

On my spark, I have to top up after 2 working days due to smaller tank.

As i use 92unleaded,

3.5l x $2.173 = $7.60

as each month i work 20days,

20days / no. of tops needed = 10 topups

$7.60 x 10 ( no. of topups needed just for work p/mth) = $76

$76 - 5% discount = $72.20

per month petrol usage for my fazer just for work = $234.75

per month petrol usage for my spark just for work = $72.20

How much i save on petrol = $234.75 - $72.20 = $162.55

Those amounts are just for work and not inclusive of leisure..

Not only i save up on my petrol, i also save on servicing as i do not have to service my fazer as often as before.. Smaller CC bikes servicing is cheaper plus their wear and tear spare parts are also very affordable. And if u'r the D.I.Y typre of person, it's so easy to service ur smaller cc bike on ur own with some basic tools, thus saving a bit more.

but then again, it's all up to the individual... some people struggle just to upkeep 1 bike.. while others just can't stop buying bikes and keep a collection..:D

Your case is almost the same as mine...Keep 2 bikes for now...

And the jam when going to work...The small one have the advantage...

yeah u have a point.. and that is one of the many advantageous.. there are also disadvantageous but if u put both of them together on a scale, the advantages seems to outweigh the disadvantages..

In Singapore,I would favour small cc engines(class 2B).Due to frequent jams and traffic lights. There is an issue in science called inertia. This phenomenon is

quite drastic to more massive the vehicle is in comparison.Lower mass in starting and coming to a halt repeatedly would not consume as much fuel as a vehicle of a larger mass.

Furthermore, larger bikes have to sustain a higher rate of speed in order to not strain the crank. For example, Suzuki GSX 600(K8) has to sustain between 117km/h to 122km/h which is way above the legal limit.

Just my 2 cents worth though.Pragmatic approach
