if you have taken chemistry before, there is this method called scarificial corrision on the principle of the reactivity series of metals. zinc and magnesium is more reactive compared to iron therefore when connected together thru welding on our exhaust belly, it will actually rust in the place of our iron exhaust belly.

ooh yeah..i still remember about the term called sacrificial corrosion and its proven to be working but what compfused said is true too...magnesium is very reactive..burnt it and it will burnt u too..
