not really lar.... Just do a simple maintainance or servicing b4 you go for a trip.

The point is going with someone who will not leave you in the lurch or complain

abt you spoiling the trip.

The Monster400/750/900 is as simple as it gets.

No fuel injectors, good ol carbs :thumb:

No radiators, good ol air cooled engine :thumb:

No ECU, electronic rev limiter, ignition retarder, powercut etc.... Less chance of electronics failure. :thumb:

would a 749 survive a trip to KL and back?....need to stop at every gas station issit?

probably not. it may not even survive JB if it rains.

I think the question is whether the rider can survive it.

Ducatis uses AMP insulated connectors, AMP is a very well known electronics brand.

I think most of the problems would be software glitches, which should have been ironed out by now. Basic preventive maintenance like checking the condition of wireing might prevent headaches further down the road. :thumb:

i see...so we're talking abt the electronics huh?

front cylinder prone to water seepage thru the spark plug cap. causes plug to foul and eventually misfire.

and no, its not a one off case, numerous 999s have this problem over here. hoping for some service bullitin to rectify this.

i was thinking of applying some sort of sealant in the meantime, otherwise i suggest you dont bring it beyond JB.

I think if the spark plug is properly torqued down, water should never seep in. If several thousand pounds of pressure from the combustion chamber can't get out, i don't see how water can seep in.

I think the forward cylinder spark plugs are more prone to fouling due to the position. I noticed my forward cylinder fouls for no reason on bad days, then runs perfectly fine on other days without touching any settings... Wierd.

Are the spark plugs easy to access on the 999?

the forward cylinder , yes, its nearly as easy as a monsters.

i know water is entering the cylinder and thats for sure. could be a defective gasket, not too sure. i know other superbikes are facing this problem and i hope ducati take a serious look at it. the sealant would do fine for now i guess, as an interim measure

Maybe ensuring that the spark plugs are torqued correctly and applying dielectric grease to the spark plug cap junction would prevent water from causing any

electrical problem???

Anyway, may I know if any Ducati riders interested in kopi sessions???

He's riding a Raptor->Italian bike with TL engine?

You can try coating the side of the ignition cap that plugs onto the spark plug to

assist future removal and the spark plug head as well as the dielectric grease

will be sheared away when the contacts meet each other. and kind of like

seal the contacts's external area.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, I'm selling my copy of the Desmo Bike Tuning and Maint manual for $15. Check out the Garage Sales! :lovestruck:
