Hmm...okay, thanks.

I always let my bike warm up while I wear helmet and gloves...and I take quite long doing those.

I've been riding with that ticking sound for months now and discovered it isn't an issue once engine is warmed up. Using superior quality EO also eliminated my concerns on this matter.

I have strange piston noises too but some checkups indicated it's due to enhanced compression from DIY mods (I'm serious, 95 fuel is no-no, combustion knock). Noticed a very loud 'forced induction' (ie, turbo like) intake noise when passing at high power, during chase filming and pedestrian feedback today. The rewards of DIY :D

Why I give above examples? Your normal stock, healthy Phantom can't have more funny noises than mine! It won't explode trust me :D

Due to the heavy lack of mechanical knowledge, I tend to worry when things like these happens. I absolutely have no idea how things works on a bike...it may sounds funny, but I always have this idea that my bike would explode any moment when I'm riding, especially if I ride over 90km/h. :o

But in the end...I still prefer bikes than cars as transport. :D

I'm using motul 3000 from planet...should be good enough quality? Previously I only hear the ticking sound after the engine is warmed up (eg, when I reach my destination and about to off engine, the ticking sound is there.) and not when it's cold start. Now I hear it clearly when cold starting it. Cam chain tensioner...what's it for? will it snap halfway while riding, create sparks towards the fuel tank and set off an explosion blowing me to pieces? :cheeky:

Hi all!

As above, where can I get those cans of MATT GREEN spray paints? Sourcing out first to use it later on! Thanks!:)

the color ur looking for is olive green, the best place is those industrial hardware shop, i can think of a few is woodlands loop, and pioneer north, the rest u gotta hunt around on your own

someone have done it, cannot remember who.

wargoat lorh

After 4 days of not riding, I finally went to take a look at my bike.

It was quite hard to start...but that's not the problem.

I finally heard the dreaded clicking noise on cold start...my cam chain tensioner. :weep:

Before I can get to change next week...is it safe to ride?

its normal, as EO is at the bottom of the sump, so not much oil is left to dampen the chain, hence upon starting u'll hear the timing chain sound, it'll go away once the EO is lubricating it...

getting paranoid is good, at least when u discover something outta norm u'll take notice, so not a bad thing...

ok when a timing chain breaks, what happen is this ur piston will still continue moving, but the timing chain that keeps the valve train in sync with the rotational speed of your piston (engine RPM), is gone the valve train will lose the tempo and valves will knock into the piston (as it is no longer governed by the timing chain) end result is either broken valve or bend valve with a seriously deformed piston crown....

Statistically, I've never seen a single Phantom broken down before, over my years of riding. That's an excellent reliability record compared to the scores of Y125 (mine included), RXZ, anyhow-tuned S4s, that I see randomly waiting for tows.

On internet forums, I've heard about one (yes ONLY one) chap who managed to break the chain tensioner of a Phantom and started posting bad reviews of the bike everywhere, but the rest of the Thai gentleman farangs (expats) more or less take notes from us SBF PKs (surprise!!!!)

Preventive maintenence is good for any machine thus the veteran PKs' suggestion to at least inspect the chain tensioner during full service (yearly / 10k-20,000 km?),

And vashie when I got my Phantom in March I went to Chong whenever I heard a new mechanical noise appear during engine break in. Lol. Indeed, paranoia is healthy!

Makes you feel great that you're not exploding everywhere, too! I still have that "OMG im gonna explode!!!" feeling today, which is so fun! Cars are boring by comparison LOL.

So...should I change the cam chain tensioner?

The last time I went to change my EO (around...2 weeks ago?) I did ask ah Chong to help me check my cam chain tensioner. Don't know is he bad mood that day or what...keep talk back rudely. He say want then change, if not don't ask him check...then he walk away. Then a tall skinny mech took over and I ask him to hear the ticking noise...he inspected it for awhile then say is something (I forgot what thing exactly) loose inside, not big problem.

I think you're sick of changing out little parts everywhere already LOL.

Anyways I would just ride the bike and enjoy it. No bike has silent pistons unless you have a Toyota Prius of a bike.

Chain tensioner will need replacement when the ticking is like a SUPER LOUD sound. You won't miss it.

Have done 10,000kms without a single repair. You can too, it's a Honda after all. People have rode Phantoms for 7 years, not even a single full service done, and the bike didn't explode or anything, just kept going like energizer bunny.

On another note apparently kids in the US ride Honda ATVs (offroad quad bikes), never know to change the oil and when their dads inspect them they're like, running on thick black grease for "oil". Lol. Didn't cause any issues, put oil and away it goes.

Hello Knights.

I'm waiting for my TP next month and considering buying a phantom when i get my licence. However i noticed that the foot peg of the bike is very close to the rider, and that may be a problem for me as I'm very tall (1.9m) and has long legs.Is it possible to move the foot pegs to a more cruiser-like position (further from the body so more leg room)? And if yes where can i get it done?

do consider abt ur handlebar 1st, coz tall ppl do look weird with the stock handlebar... the leg part will cost pretty much more as u might need to custom make it by a wielder

I've got a problem with my phantom ta200 gear shifting at times. Like when i stop and want to shift my gear down to 1 or neutral, it will get stuck in the middle some where (kick down but the gear just doesn't shift though the pedal moves). So what I have to do is either to release to biting point to let the gear engage then pull clutch then i can kick the pedal to shift the gear down or kick the pegal up and then down again(works sometimes only).

Anyone has any idea what the problem is? Or is it common?

*I don't entertain bullsh*t

its not very advisable to change gear whn you'r stationary to begin with.

engage to neutral, neutral to engage is fine.

if th problem mainly occur whn 'dropping gear', chances of shifter mounting is high.

in th sense of, th shifter is mouted too low.

whn you step it down, th shifter wld hit th footrest support/bracket/mounting point & th gear is not engaged.

you'd hav to loosen th shifter, tilt it one-lvl higher, tighten it.

this way, th shifter has ample space to go downwards to engage th gear.

take a side view pic of your shifter from 50cm apart & post it up, it might help in online-diagnose. (:

online-diagnose are pretty general.

th possibilities i cld think of, i had alr stated up thr..

wait fer seniors, old birds to comment on yer problem or send yer machine to a trusted mech to check on it.

your EO plays a part too.

For my bike, when it is time to change EO, gear shifting is pretty rough and does get "Stuck" at neutral when shifting from gear 1 to 2 at times.

hi all,

just gotten my first bike (phantom) and have been riding for around 2 weeks.

I notice that my bike often experience high idling(high rev in neutral), after running 15-20km.

when engine is start cold, it is quite lean, and rpm is slightly low. Have to open throttle to maintain rpm, else it will stall.

but during and after a journey, especially when under the hot sun, the idling rpm slowly increases to a point where the engine vibration is abit annoying.

one of my friend says its probably due to air leakage in the carburator.

Any idea whats the problem? and roughly how much is the cost of the repairs?

Lights are one of the main things they check during inspection...really should get the problem fixed first then go inspect.

Your front signal light is probably blown, which is why the rear left one doesn't blink.

Change it and it should be ok.
