I did some research in SBF, a 2nd phantom typically cost around $1000 to $1500 depending on certain factors.

I would like to ask for a new P-Plate rider 20 years old. Usually how much is the insurance?

From my understanding insurance for 21 years old is lower? I will be 21 next year, let's say I haven't pass my birthday yet, should I be catergorized under 20 or 21 years old?

Thanks.

Phantom Riders out there, I saw your post on some fish-tail experience with your phantom. Is it a huge problem for you guys when riding? Also, what are the some other problems with phatoms?

Hi fabian, i was an ex phantom ta200 rider for 1.5 years

My insurance back then around your age was 615 from ntuc for a year covering 3rd party damage claims. Being under 21, your insurance choices are limited probably only ntuc will take you. As long as you have not past your birthdate, you are under 21. hope this clarifies doubts.

The problem of the phantom(already considered the better) and most 2b bikes are the brakes. They are unlike cars with 4 disc and 4 tyres. Yours are 2 with 2 tyres taking a much further distance to brake. Also, having a rear box or pillion, will add on to the inertia. The design of the phantom puts the center of the weight on the rear wheel and with its longish design, you have to becareful of the rear brakes hard breaking.. especially during wet weather riding. If you can afford, change the brake disc, brake pads, tyres and brake fluid(this will greatly help with the braking) semi-synthetic engine oil, normal spark plug and air filter(get a knn air filter if you plan to renew coe!) upon take over and set aside some money for an overhaul or common wear and tear items like chains, timer and engine. If you have to have a figure, thats 5-600 aside.

Another problem is the engine oil. Its 1L but for my ex phantom, however around the 2000km mark of mileage, only 7-800 ML is left and thats my limit of exploit for due servicing.

To summarize, its the engine oil, the capabilities of speed and torque but bad braking. But as a first bike, I highly recommend this as its economical, easy to maintain and cheap. Just take note of the due coe so dun expect too much of a resale value.

i got round to cleaning my bike..

it was all sweat but shiok..

until i reach the wheels..the rear wheels..

it is so full of whatever ..it look like the more i wash..the worse it is..

say how to avoid this dirty wheel ..

i dont ride in the rain..

what causes it to be so dirty..maybe this wheel hasnt been cleaned for years..

If you mean the side of the rear wheel where the chain is, it due to the chain lubrication. You need to use a degreaser to clean it.

jus dont use too much of ur rear brakes and a good rear tyre also plays a part, i used to fish tail when i was using the old one frm previous owner, den i realize it deflates v often, went to ah chong and found out alot of patched up holes and no longer able to patch up any more, got a new metz and i no longer fishtail anymore...

bro, i also just passed last month. p-plate and 20.

insurance not cheap. i also same as you. cheapest quoted to me was AXA which quoted $1150, for third party only. ntuc would be $1300.

and as for the fishtail problem, yeah, the problem is quite real. on dry weather, the handling of phantom is actually not bad. but on wet road surface, the rear wheel have a tendency to fishtail, when you are doing a turn or applying rear brake. but with experience you will slowly find that this problem will become more manageable.

Good luck in getting your bike! :)

Hi guys,

Was wondering anyone got lobang for the larger capacity fuel tank? Is it still available?

Thanks in advance.

There's no replacement for displacement except for a blower

hi all,

just gotten my first bike (phantom) and have been riding for around 2 weeks.

I notice that my bike often experience high idling(high rev in neutral), after running 15-20km.

when engine is start cold, it is quite lean, and rpm is slightly low. Have to open throttle to maintain rpm, else it will stall.

but during and after a journey, especially when under the hot sun, the idling rpm slowly increases to a point where the engine vibration is abit annoying.

one of my friend says its probably due to air leakage in the carburator.

Any idea whats the problem? and roughly how much is the cost of the repairs?

IMO, quite typical for carburetted bikes. It's not smart enough to sense temperature changes, like an EFI system can. So, just reach down to the right and turn the idle adjustment knob while stationary for start, warmup, light duty, and highway riding accordingly :D

Hi guys just wondering how often you guys tighten and lubricate your chains.

and also is it possible to tighten it yourself?

haha it depends dude, its like asking how often you pump petrol ;] if you use more, it'll slack more. Also it depends on what kinda brand/model of chain you are equipped with on your bike. I shall let the others explain to you the others..
