wad do u think ppl dun even bother to get a ff helmet, riding in at least long pants and shoes will even think about getting proper gears. and more extreme case like get bikes on installment and soon have to let go due to financial inability.

without ff, shoes and glove i sure feel naked and the even the engine of sp is too hot for me to ride in shorts. good that my pillion is understanding enough to wear all the gears for her during our trip. made me worried less for her. except her stupid decision on wearing sandals...

there was once i witness a rider self skid during a turn. sparks was flying and he rolled into the middle of the road, lucky midnight no traffic. when i hurried to helped him and asked, "are you ok?"

he proudly showed off his gears, "thanks to my gears, im unscratched."

for a more realistic view, just go and see those motivation slider before and after photos. think your skin can take tt?

Because of your story, I'm gna be a SOTGATT when I start riding even though I 2B only. Hahah I thought to myself before wear FF and gloves on a SP like a bit too much leh. But also for my own good la..

Wearing of a full face and jacket is a safety statement., its not a fashion statement.

An eye for an eye makes the world go blind,

it is then two wrongs to not result in a right.

i also 2b, and don't even ride a sports bike. Currently, FF + Gloves + long pants + Boots, all the time. Soon will have mesh jacket.

Don't see what's the big deal, but it takes discipline, effort, and sometimes $

@xavw What are you riding then?

**** happens and when it happens, I wanna slide on the road with my skin still intact. No big deal la, just that you will definitely hear people say things like "woah ride xxx only want to wear until like motoGP" hahahah

well, the reality is that if bikers meet with accident, the chances are pretty high that we'll meet the tarmac. doesn't matter if you ride cub or some atas big bike.

think maybe it's just the people who you meet. i hardly recieve such comments.

Don't care what others say la. For your own good. Its a sooner or later thing only. Some people will never wear gear until they meet with an accident.

Then again, gear is expensive but definitely worth the money. Invest in some :) At the least in SG, wear jacket, gloves, pants/jeans and shoes. Won't kill you to cover up skin :D

Hey bros, currently using rs taichi boa now. My first boot and I must say its damn comfortable and light. Really light. It is said to be waterproof however I have not put it to the test except for light showers which it performed wonderfully. Its a slightly high cut boot at just above the ankle. Cost 200 bux at motoworld. Comes in black and grey.

Anyone has a good high cut riding shoes to recommend?

Water proof and under $200 ones!

I was surprised the biggest, most badass and heavily armoured caterpillar boots were selling for $170 only during CNY sales. Got one and it's perfect for riding. Water doesn't get in (surprise!), sticks to the ground like superglue even if wet and muddy, and not to mention if you ever kick someone's car the car will lose :p

Best feature is. I managed to get it for $70 after some haggling. I got the guy to swap the barcodes and cashier didn't notice. Don't ask how :3

Added a pair of Taichi mesh pants to my gear set.

I first went for the Komine PK-700 : it has full hard armor on knees, hips, tail bone, anywhere you can think of.

Problem is, it was too bulky, and too hot. It didn't fit my leg size neither.

So went with the Taichi ones. They are lighter, mainly because the armor is soft, and only covering the knee and the hips.

At first i was worried about its efficiency but I suppose it's better than nothing. I'm not sure I know how well hard armor performs vs. soft armor, in falls at 90-100km/h. Might be as efficient ?

The pants are perfect to wear when it's not too hot. Last week when it was so bloody hot, it wasn't super comfortable, so I got myself some dry fit shorts to wear under. i think I'll check what under armour has to offer in that area. With the dryfit short under, it's much much better.

I don't wear them to go to work, because i don't want to change when I get there - I still use my knee/shin guards.

To answer the question about where do you put your gear when you don't have a box : I use a Pacsafe bag and lock it to my bike.

At work, my basement carpark has extra security so I actually leave all my gear, helmet included, unlocked on the bike.

Just had an accident last night, got thrown forward when I hit a car that did a sudden and illegal U-turn (didn't even see it coming till it was too late).

I was was fliping in the air and landed on my back. I am very sure my shoei helmet, and my RS taichi Mesh Jacket with Komine rubber back guard, and TCX riding boots helped me in not getting any fractures. Doctors and Paramedics were very please that I had my body armor.

Oh I also think that being trained in breakfall helps heaps too, cause when I was flipping my training kicked in and I just went into a back break fall, which helps.

YUP its ATGAT for me! ( ermm..it also helps that i always slow down at traffic junction and Thank GOD too!)

Thanks to all the bystanders that helped me too, and the driver also assisted and admitted its her fault to TP.

All hail to ATGATT !!!!! :cheer:

Glad you're safe and sound Donutbiker, any bruises, anything at all ? You make it sound like you're some kind of stunt man telling us about a stunt haha .. :)

Where did you learn breakfall ? I have no idea how that works.. if i get tossed off my bike, I'll probably land on the heaviest part of my body for sure : my butt... :faint:

Can you post a pic of your Komine back guard please ? is it inside the jacket, or a separate piece you strap to yourself ?

Oren,

its just a normal rubber back padding that came with my komine, but I took it out and fitted it inside my RS taichi mesh jacket (my backup jacket). I put my Hard Plastic RS taichi back guard in my Komine (primary jacket) instead.

I was wearing my old RS taichi jacket as I just washed my Komine. Both jacket are available from Motoworld, do check it out. Price is reasonable. I think I am gonna save up and get myself a full set of forcefield armor.

My lower back and left buttock is tight and sore, which is slows me down quite abit in my daily chores. However, I am still able to walk and perform my daily activities independently. THK GOD!

I learned my breakfalls when I did Aikido and Jujitsu in my younger days, and one of the break falls we did was to fliped forward and land on our back. It came in handy, even though I have not practiced them for years. It was just muscle memory.

However, the important bit that really saved me was I slowed down at the junction, instead of blasting through. PHEW!!!!!!

Thanks Donubiker :) I already have a Jacket with a hard back armor, that's why I was wondering if you had a stand alone back armour - been considering those, with long size going all the way down your spinal cord. Tail bone is definitely a place that seems to get the most impact when you fall on your back..You didn;t mention any knee protection, you're not wearing any ? In that case it's even better luck that you managed to fall on your back.

Absolutely agree with you, junction screams danger to me. I was surprised when i learned 30% of motorcycle accidents happen at junctions - you'd think with all the lights and boxes and signal boards, it would be safe...but yeah, often riders just zoom through or speed up to beat the light. A good thing to do at junction too besides slowing down is to change lane to the lane as far as possible from incoming traffic in the junction. It can give a rider precious seconds to stop and avoid a car who didn't see and crosses the junction..

:) How about my Forcefield Pro L2, O'Ren? (http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/319393-Almost-New-Back-Protector-%E2%80%93-Forcefield-Pro-L2?highlight=)

looks nice ! But I'm looking for something that will complete my hard armor at the back of my jacket, like a lower spinal cord + tail bone cover..

Will advertise for your protector though, Forcefield do nice things..

Thks Oren for the keep left at junction advise, I think its a great idea, and will try out your suggestion when i can start riding again.

I don't normally wear my knee shin guard in Singapore, I only use it when I cross te border to Malaysia. However, its best practice to them on, which I will seriously consider. I tried it for awhile and got lazy with the knee shin guard.

You might wanna check out KNOX armour, they have back protectors that run all the way down to the sacra region. Google for it and I think the local distributor is based in Jurong area.
