Hi all, does the weakening of the Japanese Yen due to the quake translate in the price drop for bike across the board?

Has anyone inquired about bike prices recently?

I think this is a stupid question.

The Japanese have suffered a major calamity this last weekend, and all you can think is the price of Japanese bikes go down.

eh, but the COE is at a historical high. $2604.

anyway, the price of bikes is not as elastic as the price of oil. it won't translate so quickly to savings/profit. if so, i think we can start speculating on bikes lor.

not only the price will not drop,it'll raise.. items like semi conductor which japan accounts for 1/5 of the world supplied is down.. canon.. toshiba.. so meaning demand will exceed supply.. there goes the price up.. same goes for their bikes cars etc

Don't think the automotive industry will suffer a crash, major bike and car manufacturers today are very globalised and decentralised. Specialty models which rely on direct Japanese import will of course be affected and these rare models may fetch a higher price as abovesaid due to supply and demand issues but I don't think the majority of us will notice at all.

After all, bikes like Fz150i are assembled in Malaysia and they have a huge local stock and parts base to meet regional demand, anyway.

let's hope so.. toyota has already stop overtime work in US due to under supply of parts

japan bikes, parts made all over the world, like china, thailand. it's the branding only, for all u know, a japanese bike might not go to japan n ship to u, it can be direct from factory, qc checked according to their standards. besides, japan dont have much factories for parts.

bikes r imported. even if there's a crisis, imported goods r already there. unless the good move very fast which need replenish now, there wont be a decrease in price.

let's say the parts come from japan, with a shortage, it means increase in price.

COE prices have increased dramatically recently.

with all these factors, do u think it's still good time to buy japanese bikes or goods?

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

If you think paying $2600 for COE is a good deal, then carry on.

IMHO, the price of the bikes are not solely affected by the currency. factors affecting oso consist of oil price, COE, quantity of order, etc. for eg, the bike is brought in in big quantity and when yen are strong, the machine price for dis patch is at dat price, fluctuating by the difference of COE pricing. IF the yen drops tmr, the shop will not drop their price cos they bought at a price when yen are strong. if u wait till yen drop and they bring in, it can be mths later & wat if the COE shoots up to more than 4k? (hope u can understand wat i'm trying to say. my mind contains too many things atm )

so... to me, the best time is the time u really need a bike, and when u have the $ to get them.

i guess the COE makes up for the drop if there is. I'm not saying that there is or isn't but we will have to hold our breaths in the upcoming months. Digressing a little, the disaster in Japan has really dealt their nation and economy a huge blow but we should keep them in our prayers.

It has also affected their shipping of auto parts too, have been waiting a long time...
