Not sure if there has been a topic on this or relevant discussions, but I realised recently that the sun can also be a potential hazard on the road.

when you're riding towards the sun, especially as it's rising or setting, the rays blind you so badly you can hardly see sh!t. cars can't see you, you can't see cars as well.

alot of us ride during peak hours. thats the time when the sun happens to be setting as well.

just yesterday, was blinded so heavily I had to go super slow on lane 4 on ECP - AYE.

aside from tinted visors, which ridiculously is outlawed here, any other options? i already wear specs, so shades are out of questions. there was talks about Transition Lens implemented in visors, but haven't reach sg yet.

I have two helmets with in build visor, hyper open face helmet n airoh tr1 full face helmet. They are noisy and the in build visor sucks as its too short.

Theres one at the garage sale. Full face with transitions lens.

Transitions lenses cant beat sun glass.

haha, you have no idea. in a bid to save water, i don't even wash my underwear anymore.

wear liao, flip over wear again, then turn it inside out wear, then flip over and wear. 1 underwear can wear 4 days. save so much water.

anyway, not tint the whole visor la, just the upper part, maybe cut a thin strip and paste on the upper part of visor. cheap and easy fix. TP also cannot do anything.

I really agree with this.

Fine up till $1000. Who cares. Who the hell ask u to use tinted visor at night. That juz plain stupit ar.

They could easily legalize the use of tinted visors, make it only for DAY use. After 7pm, those who use/abuse it, get fined.

Wear chromed la, can reflect the glare and still see at night. Too bad it makes you look like wearing a space helmet. Gahmen stupid la, tinted cannot means cannot, wear sunglasses can.

Posted

i recall that it's legal to have tinted, but only up to a certain percentage of tint. but those with reflective/shiny surface is not approved. think the reason is that it poses a distraction to other road users.

Posted

There's no other way around it I think. Either you wear contacts and wear shades or risk being fined when wearing tinted visors. Well, you can also get helmets with transitions lenses. They're available now with some helmet brands. Does anyone know the exact reason why TP don't allow tinted visors? I hope it isn't the whole 'rob a bank thing' again...

Posted

if you wear specs and its not those big a** frames, go buy those over-spec type of shades. those type that you wear over your specs. i cant use those though cos my frame is big. hahaha saving up for a hjc full face modular with flip up :)

i usually like reading most of your posts BUT i have to disagree this time...:cheeky:

actually i hope you are not offended but i believe there are actually 2 far SIMPLER solutions which most riders & drivers have been using since many many many years ago...

1) Get your eyes used to it. It helps when you are "lucky" enough to have no other alternatives & "forced" to "train" them for a living everyday. :)

It is like when you have to drive a old shabby ( edit: ) 1979 datsun pick-up truck with NO aircon & a leaky roof that drips rain that floods your "floorboard?" & gets stuffy when you wind up the windows in the rain. You need to use a cloth to wipe the inside fog of your windscreen in the rain. Hot day & the heat wave of the road blows into your face. A few dozen foreign workers in the back of your lorry to make your rear view mirror completely useless. o_O

It is like when you are forced to ride ( edit : ) despatch in the heavy rain when your old raincoat is leaking & the sharp raindrops hit you painfully in your exposed slipper-clad toes. you get the idea..."THAT'S LIFE" o_O

if that doesn't work then there is an even simpler answer...

2) Slow down ( but you have already said it  )

i am not trying to be funny...i am serious...if you think i am being rude..."i dunno what to say":faint:

PS: btw, both solutions are FREE & even more "cheapskate". :p

i experienced this everytime on PIE towards jurong at kallang.. what i did all the time was, cover up the sun with my palm for a few seconds till not blinded. as for legalizing tinted visors during the day, so what happens when u ride into the night? take off the visors? not practical. buy sunglasses lahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. why must make simple things soooooooooooooooooooooooooo difficult..

sometimes it is easier to do something than to explain how it is done...

do it more frequently & it will come naturally to you..."squint" ( i think that's ang mo term ) if you have to. Of course if got money buy "shades" that can flip up & down on your spectacles, some more can look cool like tom cruise mah. :p

tearing??? that only happens last time when my helmets have no visor & then you go more than 90km/hr, go slow no problem liao. it is the "head-wind"??? not the sun, maybe you using no visor helmet or forgot to flip visor down, is it?
