Come to think of it, i never had a problem with sun in my eyes. Perhaps in NS, forced to stand in the hot sun, facing it while giving the garang face really did make me immune to the sun.

Hell, i even wear a hot jacket in the sun and i still feel comfortable.

i usually like reading most of your posts BUT i have to disagree this time...:cheeky:

actually i hope you are not offended but i believe there are actually 2 far SIMPLER solutions which most riders & drivers have been using since many many many years ago...

1) Get your eyes used to it. It helps when you are "lucky" enough to have no other alternatives & "forced" to "train" them for a living everyday. :)

It is like when you have to drive a old shabby ( edit: ) 1979 datsun pick-up truck with NO aircon & a leaky roof that drips rain that floods your "floorboard?" & gets stuffy when you wind up the windows in the rain. You need to use a cloth to wipe the inside fog of your windscreen in the rain. Hot day & the heat wave of the road blows into your face. A few dozen foreign workers in the back of your lorry to make your rear view mirror completely useless. o_O

It is like when you are forced to ride ( edit : ) despatch in the heavy rain when your old raincoat is leaking & the sharp raindrops hit you painfully in your exposed slipper-clad toes. you get the idea..."THAT'S LIFE" o_O

if that doesn't work then there is an even simpler answer...

2) Slow down ( but you have already said it  )

i am not trying to be funny...i am serious...if you think i am being rude..."i dunno what to say":faint:

PS: btw, both solutions are FREE & even more "cheapskate". :p

You're kidding right? Get used to staring at direct sunlight? If you can do that then I can only say God didn't give us the same kind of eyes. Sure, you can ride in the pouring rain with your skin exposed and drive a foggy old truck with windows that fog up and workers blocking your view but is it safe? You have so many things to think about when you ride the last thing you need are distractions like the sun in your eyes and getting your skin pounded by stinging rain. I'm sure I can get to my destination riding naked in the pouring rain with my eyes wide open but is it something I want to do? I hope ppl don't take your advice and start staring into the sun while riding so that they can 'get used to it.'

God created everyone differently. That why you see some short, tall, tanned, fair etc. I believe in God. But i also believe in Darwin's theory of Natural Selection. Of course not the part where man were from apes, but every other part of his theory.

I give you example. For 4 years, i have always worn a jacket. Before that, i was never in the sun. Always like air con. Perspire like hell if outside. Then i went to NS. Hot sun. Blah blah. I started to wear jacket all the time when riding. Everywhere wear jacket. In air con, in the sun, everywhere. So my body adapted to where my body and which environment was in. When you ride, you need to have 3 traits with you. Your body must adapt and you must utilise physical and mental conditioning.

Of course you dont go and stare directly in the sun la. But if you riding straight and the sun shining in your eyes, you either do something about it or just adapt to it. Mental conditioning is a very, very powerful tool.

The Sun does not kill people on the street. Other people do.

The point being:-

We all have different tolerances. I can tolerate the sun shining in my eyes more than you. I can tolerate not drinking and eating for longer periods of time more than you. I can tolerate cold places better than you. @bukitmerah means well. He didn't mean for you to go and STARE at the sun. Just get used to it. Facts of riding a motorbike. Hell, try to be a pilot. That one really stare at the sun.

Once, i was heading home in the evening, on the road at Boon Lay Way / Jurong East Central Junction, was turning towards bukit batok, the evening sun totally blinded me, I found it so hard to see the oncoming vehicles I had to squint my eyes. and I realized I couldn't really read the traffic light that clearly also, no building blocking just sun directly into your eyes.

Just try to avoid I guess, you can't run from the sun, its everywhere.

Posted

avoidance is 1 way but most of the time, riding needs flexibility so yeah. tinted specs/ visors is one of the more practical way. when it comes to riding, there is no need to expose yourself to unnecessary risk. if you can eliminate the hazard by not riding when the sun is right in your face, by all means. if not, you can try to minimize it. think 2 of the most dangerous thing about having the sun on your face is 1- not being able to see traffic lights and 2- not being able to see your side mirror.

Or... You could move to the east. :cheeky:

yeah this is the most underrated value of staying in the east... i moved to changi 2 yrs back & really appreciate of riding with the sun on my back everyday... road is bright but not blinding.. of cos u do get the glare on super showroom shine cars...

just bought a place at Punggol TOP 2014 and quite concern that I will no longer be riding ahead of the sun!

Liverpool revival has started....

I dont know about you guys here, but there are times during rides when the sun is directly opposite you and you can't see sh*t.

The talk about getting used to the sun glare and all....well, the safer option is to just get helmet with integrated shade.

Sometimes advice dished out, while having good intentions, does not necessarily translates into good advice.

I agree with your last line. :) :thumb:

to others that got "problems" :p...

btw, the sun doesn't just exist in singapore. the ENTIRE planet Earth experience the sun. even cold countries where it may not be hot but still got sunlight? i really dunno how the africans, indians, thais, vietnamese or malaysians / indonesians cope. all of them must be only live in the east, i suppose? Maybe their sun there is not so bright ? maybe they are not human being? :p

PS:

PS: the SAFEST option is DON'T ride motorbike. sometimes, i got problem with traffic. i think i need convoy to clear traffic for me like i am president. Sometimes, big lorry blow black stinking smoke onto my face. i think i need a respirator. sometimes, cars horn into my ears. i think i need earplugs. Sometimes, at night, cars with super-bright high headlights shine onto my face. i think i need night vision googles...sometimes got 36E-24-36 women on the street, i think i need condoms...

Lasik is laser surgery rite? Have u seen final destination? Ouch!

For my own convenience...

I am going for LASIK. I can wear sunglass while riding.

Not a cheap alternative but hopefully a more lasting one...

Wow, didn't know sun glare could make people so worked up. Most of my riding is at night though, something about the sun that makes me go up in flames and burn.

Exactly. Some people are worrying about the unnecessary things like "the sun" when they should be worrying about improving their riding skills, reaction time and performance management.

Not sure if there has been a topic on this or relevant discussions, but I realised recently that the sun can also be a potential hazard on the road.

when you're riding towards the sun, especially as it's rising or setting, the rays blind you so badly you can hardly see sh!t. cars can't see you, you can't see cars as well.

alot of us ride during peak hours. thats the time when the sun happens to be setting as well.

just yesterday, was blinded so heavily I had to go super slow on lane 4 on ECP - AYE.

aside from tinted visors, which ridiculously is outlawed here, any other options? i already wear specs, so shades are out of questions. there was talks about Transition Lens implemented in visors, but haven't reach sg yet.

Sun of a beach!

cheap and good solution.

Like CSV mentioned, X-ray Film, cheap and easily replaced if lost/damaged.

If you don't have x-rays ever. Find some relative who does :D

I fear the rain more than the sun, rain is effing more dangerous than the sun, sun glare I can live with, rain, I simply do not ride. Anyway if hate the sun glare so much, just go home 1 hr earlier or later la, simple what, less traffic and wannabe racers with receding hairline somemore.
