I think LTA had lax the ruling and allows white bulbs. But in all honesty... don't bother. Normal white bulbs emits light which cannot project far as compared to original or normal 'yellow' ones. So when you travel in darker places esp in certain parts of Msia, you'll notice you won't be able to see the road clearly.

Of course it would be a different story if it's a HID kit.

If its meant to be used in Malaysia. All the normal white bulbs, dont waste your monies. I have tried many white bulbs such as osram, philips, piaa, a japanese brand. Not much use. HID better.

Singapore dun need HID actually, roads are well lit. Msia then yes, besides HID is annoying, difficult to judge distance.

Sometimes annoyance is good. Because the cars ahead will be hesitant to make any foolish stunt such as swaying left and right, sudden lane change. They drive tight, straight and wait for the bike with hid to ride past and then high beam back.

At least we are already ahead of them=Safer

Obviously you haven't had a hid behind you. Try that first then come back and say if its a good idea to have hid on the roads.

HIDs are alright wif projectors... focused n nt very dazzling.. being tailgated wif HID from a normal headlight is down-right annoying! its more likely to annoy ppl than making them hesitant... instead of letting u pass, they can always play the brake-accelerate-brake-accelerate game... jux my 2 cents.. :)

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

Lol, goodness. I didnt know someone has been riding with me for the past 10 years. Hope your words of arrogance has their ground to be. Before you launched baseless claim on what i see during my ride everyday in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, it would be good that you dont make judgement without concrete evidences. Only makes you look real silly. Doesnt mean i am registered in Nov 2011 = i am a newbie on road. You never know whos typing behind the monitor.

You give your 2 cents. I give my 1.5 cents. You have seen your part of the game. So have I. Lets just put it this way. No one is right or wrong here. Just sharing our cents in the public forum.

Chill dude. Don't behave like a little kid getting agitated over a small internet comment. I did not even say you were a noob. And I did not even bother to check the join date. Who the **** does that? And what's the point? You claim having hid as annoyance is a good idea. I'm just stating otherwise. We each have our own opinions and learn from each other. If you require everyone to use TLC words on the forums, then okay I will try to use TLC words over the forums.

Those cars or even bikes with bright hid driving behind, glares the **** out of the person in front. Don't talk about nshw or what. Hid on the Opposite lane on nshw, don't tell me it doesn't glares the **** outta you?

I agree with hid on halogen housing is annoying. If i wanna get attention then i will juz switch on my high beam yellow hid light. I nvr like glare on my mirror.

To answer TS original question, white light is not illegal provided there is no color tint to the light and there is no "whit glare" thing on the ground in front. You can find the exact rule at onemotoring. BUT the problem is that at inspection there is no 'machine' to test for the legal-ness of your white lights, its purely visual by the tester. I went thru 4 annual inspections with philips diamond vision, passed three failed once. They purely look and decide.

I must also say that indeed white lights are not a good idea for m'sia, but Singapore is no diff except of coz white is nicer.

And HID is illegal unless comes with the bike, which unlikely.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Doremi.. bro ur lame! jus my 2cents! lol

HID lights are indeed to bright for its own good. Even more irritating if its not aligned properly. It'll jus agitate other road users or even padestrian.

I would say its dangerous cos the glare on the mirrors would jus blind u when being approached by a vehicle wif HID from the back.

I'm againts HIDs or even those bright yellow ones on TAXIs!

Just to share something i learnt in my previous work.

HID - never legal except stock in vehicle.

Our Authority;being a little red dot, does not come out with their own rules. Instead they follow JIS (Japanese International Standard) and ECE or United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

According to ECE regulation, any vehicle that wishes to retro-fit HID. Need to have 2 additional features as well in order to make the full HID retro-fitting passes ECE standard

1) Projector headlamp (our halogen is FF - Free Form Reflector which is out of the question_

2) High Pressure Cleaning System

3) Leveling System

Missing any one of this render the system non-street legal

White bulbs came along after popularization of HID system.

1st generation White bulb uses blue coating which shortens the lifespan of bulb exponentially. Improvement came along where adding special blue pigment material into the glass forming stage creating a real blue color bulb.

Mind only quality factory are able to produce such bulbs. There are many developing countries contract manufacturing the bulbs with 1st gen technology, coupling with impressive looking packaging and mis-led consumers about the true wattage, light throw and copy cat branding that uses spelling and packaging almost the same as the original OEM manufacture Corporate Identity.

Bulb made using 1st generation technology has very poor light output and heat generated more than stock.

Nice for pp to see...

No so nice for the ride who wants to see the road.....

Long story short... maybe other episodes later....

The only one that is street legal are original "yellow color" bulbs.....

Want more power and throw.. .go for quality aftermarket bulbs from OE manufacturer like Osram and Philips.

So much infighting. Let's all ride in the dark.
we don't ride in the dark for goodness sake. We dance in the dark! Haha. Cmon guys, we all know that HIDs are illegal because it's glaring n can cause distractions n endanger other road users. But LTA does allow normal white bulbs because its visibility is better as compared to the stock yellow ones. Correct me if I'm wrong. Cheers!!
