the RVF at Mah is the 750cc version, a race machine. you will be turned down flat

even if you offer $60k for it. it's a vintage collector's.

a new direction, a new inspiration

it could be because of the PRO ARM.

Don't forget, the 'lil Thailand NSR 150 SP also has pro-arm.

Back to the question of the RVF's price tag, number one: it has got to be its late entry into the market of 400cc bikes.

Number two: It's manufactured to be as close to its world-winning bigger brother. It was a pure race bike.

A little history here: Honda decided back then to manufacture a smaller version of their award winning VFR750 (that is how they came out with the NC30 and NC35 a.k.a RVF) so that it sits well with Japan's restrictive tiered licensing scheme (just like our class 2b/a/Full 2).

Being the pure race bike that it should be (i.e.) fitted with inverted forks, a V4 engine, blah blah...I do believe the high price is pretty standard amongst all bikes.

Not the highest hp bike or the fastest class 2A, neither the most fuel or maintainence friendly. But you must ride it personally to understand what's so good about it. CBR400, S4 Vtec1, GSXR400, RVF all I ride b4 in a way or another over the last 6 years. My final choice was an RVF and I've decide to keep it for good.

RVF is V4, DHOC, valve controlled by gears instead of belts, pro-arm, inverted fork, youngest 400cc sportsbike. What i feel best outlook.

Wah Lan oei! 28K for that RVF! What a passion... Anyway, RVF is outstanding in the all the 400cc class. I rode S4 then CBR then RVF then ZXR then return back to RVF.

ZXR400, rode for 1yrs, trade in before going to engine blown :cheeky: Powerful 400cc but alot of problems to the point whereby i saw the steven lim's clip which makes me decided to sell off.

CBR400M, rode for 2yrs, good and well balance. Good power but less torque compare to ZXR400cc. Sold off after deciding to get a Runner.

CBR400 S4verS, rode for 3-4yrs. Good commuter bike. Enconomy and good FC but sold off after deciding to ride a sport bike (CBR400M).

RVF, previously rode for 2yrs. Good handling and well balance. Good torque at mid range but after accident. Got Scaped.

Now Presently, relived the passion of V4 and again rode RVF.

Actually before my ride of ZXR400, I rode quite many of bike before until i decided to stick on RVF for now. My aim is to finish my 1.5yr installment and keep the bike.

Why RVF so expensive? Its all about demand (passion of V4).

hmm.. i agree that rvf is a passion bike.. lol. but imho.. the value of it aint staying no more.. click on the used bike garage sales.. browse thru the threads and u will realise how this big bubble is on the bringe of the gigantic burst..

how many rvfs are stuck on sale? but i tink for 2A sports.. the era is already ending.. see how many pgms sold for below average prices.. cbrs gg for 3+K..

i laid down my cbr and moved on.. cuz i feel when the 2A market goes down.. it would be quite a sting on my wallet..

Well, I personally feel that you have made a good choice to do so ;)

Sting or no sting, the venom of price and depreciation has not made me back down from my RVF just as yet. It came out as a new breed of middleweight hopefuls back in the early~mid '90s, and I'm going to take that in mind...my ride being one of the last hopefuls and ride it -- road n track -- till its very last drip.

i think that everyone who just get a 2a license will be kan jiong to buy a bigger bike below the limitation of singapore law(400cc) so every still prefer to buy a 2a SPORT bike, first they everyone will still choose rvf if cannot afford the cbr. so it got no link wif 2nd hand r6 or watever unless singapore law say tat everyone can buy class 2 bike wif class 2a license. and even for competition they sort under 400cc and u will nv find an r6 running the same cat wif 2a bike so y take class 2 bike compare to a 2a bike???

i like RVF cos of its outlook, pro-arm n partly the sound.

its a unique n exotic bike.

cant imagine honda can put so much big bikes tech into one medium bike.

Dude, I agree with most of your comments as well and I gather interest in reading everything

But there are points that aren't being focused on when it comes to the ethics of the life-...shall I say...interest-cycle of a motorcycle rider as he progresses from Class 2B to the full -2.

i think that everyone who just get a 2a license will be kan jiong to buy a bigger bike below the limitation of singapore law(400cc) so every still prefer to buy a 2a SPORT bike

True; sometimes, a seasoned Class 2B rider would have some sort of curiousity to experience how a powerful bike -- a step up from their lightweight bikes -- really feels.

Kan-cheong (cantonese for "in a hurry") would not be a wise word to use, however philosophical you want to be in this school of thought.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, even if a person was kan jeung, at least this is part of what you and I riders commonly have, and it might be related to the passion of riding and the conquest to control something powerful. Like the urge to try wheelies, for instance ;)

first they everyone will still choose rvf if cannot afford the cbr.

If you're talking about affordability, then I think you got it the other way around. The RVF is valued much higher than that of a CBR. At least in most of the bike-shopowner's eyes.

first they everyone will still choose rvf if cannot afford the cbr. so it [your subsequent supporting arguments] got no link wif 2nd hand r6 or watever unless singapore law say tat everyone can buy class 2 bike wif class 2a license.

Did you mean to put forth that to an individual, a 400cc sportbike (especially the RVF) serves as a temporary substitute to the next biggest Class 2 bike that he/she isn't allowed to ride on the roads just as yet?

I agree with this phrase "so it got no link".

I'm sorry to say though, that I only agree. Literally.

Potentially, I still don't "see the link" as well and am suspicious -- in fact, it looks like you were wholeheartedly trying to prove your point, with so little or no citations or anecdotes, whilst making it difficult for others to rebut.

Would you like to elaborate what you meant?

and even for competition they sort under 400cc and u will nv find an r6 running the same cat wif 2a bike so y take class 2 bike compare to a 2a bike???

Y'know what? You're right!

I hear you loud and clear dude!

And you know what too? I can proudly say that me, and the bulk of 400cc sportbike enthusiasts, form this particular niche, in which we enjoy our ride in our current time, not being too bothered about ubiquitous peculiarities such as bigger riders overtaking us on the road, or that an odd-one-out like me on a middleweight bike should cower at the sight of a group of 600cc/literbikes on the racetrack, backing off throttle as they overtake at breakneck speeds.

Now, here's another school of thought: Brand-spanking bike, sturdy and mighty brake system, racer profile, as well as the feeling of being a cut-off the rest of the bikers being on a sleek rocket with a phenomonal jump in horsepower...

Would a new rider of a this Class 2 bike be able to efficiently handle his bike, yet have the agility and skill to outrun a top-of-the-edge Class 2A rider --with razor-sharp reflexes, hot on his heels during a 1-on-1?

If you find this to be food-for-thought, dude, I'm pleased to have brought it to you ;)

~ Nelly

Oh, and by the way, I'm already eligible for Class 2 training since goodness knows when...but IMO, quick license upgrades isn't a pragmatic approach to my final Class 2 dream bike.

I mean, i can explain why i pay so much my BMW where i could have bought a Japanese Bike at a cheaper price but maybe even better performance.

I pay premium for the brand, the attention I get, the design of the bike. Its just like wearing designer clothes. You can buy a Versace Tshirt for $300 and a Giordano for $10. Its the feel good factor. Performance wwise, my BMW's pick up SUCKS big time. I think a super 4 can beat me at the traffic light.

RVF? Its puzzling.. totally puzzling to me... I am sincerely curious about the mentality of this unique group of people. They are a very exquisite group of bikers. I just cant make the economics out of it.. but i guess perhaps thats the passion they have for their RVFs.

like u mention... its the feel good thing.... no offence to super 4 riders but if im on a super 4... i dun even feel like riding.... im just totally in love with my rvf.. price is high for rvf because lots of ppl love this machine.. not because its the fastest or best 2A bike u can have.. but because of the love on first sight thing :)

I somewhat feel the same way too...a lot of nice and muscular 600 and litre bikes out there for us to buy 'em and to own 'em too.

But IMO, this VTR definitely fills a special niche. I dunno what it is, but it's so darn "special"

http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/214/hondavtr1000sp2002lf5.jpg

Thing is, I have never sat and tried a powerful V-twin before. I wonder whether this fulfills the road and racetrack wishes of the individual who buys this bike, just like what the RVF has promised to some of us.
