since young, my parents dun even allow me to go out of the house alone, not to mention riding a bicycle, so I am officially bmw. My parents are always of the view that I am clumsy, can fall down when walking.

few years back, since I moved out to a rented apartment, my mom is living with my sister after my dad passed away. now, my sister is married, she lives all alone. I wanted to visit her as much as often, so I took up biking without her knowledge. however, after I getting my license, still don't dare to tell her. she just wonder how come I can now and then visit her. :cheeky:

my mom knew that i have started to save $ for my future bike. and she did not gave negative or positive comments. is it something good?

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

your mum probably feels that your passion is greater than anything else.. and as a mother, she might be thinking that nothing beats having u happier everyday.

Do ur savings plans up well and enough.. not just for a bike.. for everything else in life. :thumb:

Parents never liked me to ride.

Well, with my kind of personality, I've always chose the path that suits myself most, and not others... including parents.

So I just went ahead and took the license. Not on the sly. Not really openly. I never bothered to hide, nor did I advertised it. Somehow I managed to complete the course without their knowledge. So I bought my first bike, and just used it as is. Somehow, I managed to ride a full 2 or 3 months without them even knowing it. But then that's easy as I usually came home after the whole household's asleep. And out to work the next day after everyone has left.

Eventually, mom found out when she saw a parking fine I just left on my computer desk. Asked me abt it and got all worried. But in my usual style, I just told her that come what may, I would carry on riding. (So back off!)

Told her the same thing after my first accident. "I'm down, I'm hurt, but I'm fine overall. And no, I'm not gonna quit riding, so don't even go there." (Back off, again...)

Well, my parents, knowing my give-a-sh1t attitude has never really attempted to pressure me in any matters... knowing that I wouldn't cave or give in once I've made up my mind.

my parents used to disapprove me taking bike license but i really wanted to.. so the best and logically way to do it was to talk it out rationally. I told them that this is wad i wanted and as an individual who is soon going to be an adult.. how long can they say no to what i want in life? Imagine a 40 year old guy who has to comply when his mom say you cant take bike license.. it kinda shows that u cant stand on your two feet.. and if they were to disapprove, it will just mean that i will have to take it without their blessings (which i actually wont do it if they really really disapprove).

After saying that, they made me promise to ride safely on the road if that was my decision. Now I'm happily riding.

To those who are going behind your parents back to take bike license, please dun. There are cases of people died on the roads and their parents dun even noe their son is riding. The parents are severely traumatize and cant come to terms with their loss.

bro.. its better to tell them imho.. touch wood sumting happened to you? Will your parents come to accept the fact that after raising you for say 18 years plus and having to lose you for a reason they dun even justify or approve? You are going to be a parent some day and try to fill in their shoes.. You might get into a hell of a scolding but believe me.. its better that than the first scenario.. :)
