Vol 1: JPB to Esso Station.

Basic convoy ops.

Vol.2: Esso Station to Gul Crescent for the 'midnight waltz'

That's a fun name for dealing with simulated contingencies including frequent directional changes, unannounced speed changes and convoy separation.

[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSzSgRyGD8o[/yt]

Vol.3: Home Run to Tuas Checkpoint

Watch the Hamster deploy 4 (!!) markers in a single turn onto the highway! "Armani Escorts" disengage and return home, as planned.

Footage from 'jtzx Nokia camera mount'.

Yes I can finally go to bed! At 7.32am!

Had a very good and interesting insight of how markers are supposed to be deployed and wat should u do as a marker.

And also witness Hammie having a 3 course meal at RR.

Plus who to KBKP when things happen around your flat!

Haha good trip!

great video compilation by kalyan, it pretty sums up the night event into a condensed version, anyway now i do have pretty much confidence in you guys who were there last night, so can i count on you guys to sappork me at the BBQ convoy?

if not i'll start charging a can of coke per pax per meetup for those who gained something but nv applied it....wahahahaaaaa

Anyway also good to see CS, blackie, jo, snap & grace back into sgp after their phuket trip, so lets welcome them back!!!

great educational ride! thks kev + hamster :thumb: looking forward to learn more in the future, haha

anyway my best advise to all new riders is to head over to any NLB aka national libarary and start looking on dummies for motorcycling, the tips inside there can and will expand ur horizon, coupled with practical practising, it'll increase exponentially....have fun

so can i count on you guys to sappork me at the BBQ convoy?
This is my first time supporting 9 (?) other bikes and it was such an adrenalin rush riding shotgun with Bikee and Armani. I spent most of the time 'flying wingman' for them.

When it got to the part where Hamster was the only bike in front, there is a certain responsibility that instinctively takes hold upon gaining 2nd bike's position. It's no simple task to balance between keeping up with the leader and thinking of what's happening behind.

A cautious advance may lead to the convoy losing sight of the leader, while too fast means the convoy is strung out too far and is vulnerable to being cut in half by traffic.

All in all I had a great experience because unlike some other outing groups I don't have to worry if and when our other riders will be keeping up behind me or if the leader will suddenly make an impossible maneuver for the rest to follow. That's because we ride (or have rode) the same bikes, but more importantly we more or less really looked out for each other regardless of who we are. Egalitarianism (omg chimilogy), and a semi professional mindset is what made the PK Convoy strong.

I will feel just as confident with the same machines and riders even if there were traffic; we'd just adapt as the situation demands just as people like me who have no idea what is sweeping and marking got the hang of it once one of us showed the example.

I used to commute at 150+kph daily but 6 years of that gave me no kick at all. 70kph and a few other bikes to work with however, gives a whole new perspective to the responsibility and touring culture associated with motorcycling. And it's fun!

So to answer the aforesaid query - if given more bikes to convoy with, who would say no to the opportunity :3

Video wise there's still hours of footage to pore over but I shall wait for new inspiration before editing them. And there was the yet unanswered question of how I managed to get to JPB in 20 minutes from Woodlands... without using highways :3 Saw no one at JPB and looked at the time. 10.05? O.o

Now the technical bit - for the few dashing 0-60 post-marking rushes, and the one point where we simulated the breakup, I was glad to have did the cold air intake mod. However it's damn noisy, with that vacuum cleaner sound on all the videos. The special exhaust note and power is worth it though!

Lol KeV, at the end of the day it will be difficult and possibly quite dangerous. It'll be good to plan for in case you decide its not safe to continue trying to make it within 24hrs and have a 1 night rest stop. Have been told of a SG rider attempting an Iron Butt (which is the same distance you are thinking of doing) and passed away.

It will also be recommended to go for a few conditioning trips. I made sure Magg and I went for increasingly longer distance trips 2 months prior before attempting Sadao and Phuket (i.e to Kuantan and then Ipoh). Having long hours on SG roads wouldn't really count as conditions are very different.

Having riding buddies are also an asset. We entertain one another and help keep our concentration and alertness level as high as possible, as long as possible. Day and night riding will each offer different challenges that riding buddies can help each other overcome. They can also be your savior when your bike breaks down (eh, CS? :D)

In any case, I guess the bottom line is what would you get out of your trip? Just to crunch as much mileage as possible? Since you've travelled so far to the border, might as well experience Thailand! The Dim Sum in Hatyai is great and you can go make your own sticker fast, cheap and good.

You can also crunch mileage and have a good time by shooting all the way to Phuket and stay there awhile! (not highly recommended though). It'll be much more fullfilling.

Many things will be factors in preparing for a trip. Time, money, physical conditioning. Choose the right balance that can offer the best returns. No point spending all the money to travel and regret not having more time to properly enjoy.

Ride safe!

Its the passion that drives us to ride the distance. But one also must be rational enough to weight the pros and cons. When one reached a certain stage in life, there are things one have to give up. One have to think of the circumstances if shlt happeneds. Those left behind done nothing wrong to render themselves into that situation. I shall not try to talk you out of it but want you to think of your resposibility as a husband and father.

I AM BACK!!!!!
