BTW, visited JK and he replaced a part with no fuss.

Top bloke this bugger, I would recommend anyone to get their ramounts/GPSs from him.

Where else in Spore can u take the ram mount down to your bike to try it to see if it fits?

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

You definitely will be able to find a proper mount from RAM Mount.

In fact, without even needing a GPS, you should be able to see the previous post which mentions mounts, and who carries them.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Hi,

An update on my part - I was looking into getting a Nuvi a few weeks back. I decided to use my iPad instead. Now let me give a little bit of details here, to explain why this makes sense to me:

- I already own the iPad (since May) and use it very frequently, it is almost always in my purse or bag

- There is an iPad app by TomTom that covers SG and MY

- I do not have side boxes or a rear box, so I always ride with a tank bag, my tank bag has a transparent pocket on it's top, to fit a map. The iPad just fits perfectly in that pocket and I can control its screen with my gloves on despite the plastic cover of the bag.

- The iPad has bluetooth features so it can connect with an Intercom device, and play both Music and the GPS directions with the latter fading out the music to give instructions then letting the music come back again full volume

- The TomTom app is good enough for me: clear instructions, excellent localization and a night mode that makes it easy for me to visualise my route at night

- Some may ask how do I look at the iPad screen while riding if it's on my tank: because the screen is so big it's not like your usual GPS: you can catch a glimpse easily with a quick look, and because of the tank bag below, it actually sits comfortably close to you, so you don't have to move your head, your eyes just go down and you can see the map. Plus, especially for Singapore, every stop, slow traffic, traffic light, you can see and plan your next turns so it's very convenient.

- I can use the GPS app + iPod function + bluetooth function for more than 10h straight and my battery still has a few % in it. That's I think the best part!

I have been using the Legend CX for traveling for past few years and dropped it one time too many and now the device can't hold the charges (tried fresh batteries but still get the same results). So I am now thinking of getting another one. Have these hand held models fallen out of grace? I mostly see big touch screen models for sale these days. Any lobangs? Thanks.

galaxy s is running on android, no big issues if you want to use it as GPS when in sg, just use google maps + data plan.

problem is when you go overseas.

minor problem for me is, maps + data plan is a little slow. not sure y. even under open space. (i am not using galaxy though.)

i am looking to get a waterproof case for my google nexus 1, i already have the arm, U shape thing to clip on the handle bar. any recommendations? selling off my aqua box if any1 is interested.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Hi all. Just a simple question on Garmin. I have been using a 60CSx for couple of years already and its fantastic cos it runs on AA batteries and have accompany me for dirt bike trip where there is no road and where its bread crumb trail comes in handy, to fishing trip where good spot are mark and of course motor bike trip up north.

Hoping there are some expert on Mapsource to help. When I plan a route, e.g. GP Patrol station (starting point) to Malacca Chicken Rice ball shop (end point) and plan the route in such a way that I have a few way points inbetween for some sight seeing, so basically its a longer and more twisty route but exactly according to what I wanted. If I start from starting point, no issue, just follow the route and even if I turn wrongly, it will recalculate and redirect me back to route. Question is if let's say I am in Batu Pahat and wants to take this planned route starting from Batu Pahat, if I start the route, I realise that it will try to direct me to the starting point first!! Which means I have to ride all the way from Batu Pahat back to GP and then start the route. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for whoever help that is coming :) Thanks thanks.

when you plan your such route which do not go in a logical manner, you have to break the route into sections. In your example, your can do something like this :

1 GP Esso - PT A

2 PT A - PT B

3 PT B - Batu Pahat

4 Batu Pahat - PT G

5 PT G - PT H

6 PT H - Malacca Rice Ball

So if you are in Batu Pahat, from your 60CSx recall Route 4, and continue according to your waypoints to PT G, PT H then arriving at Malacca.

However should you want skip the PT G, PY G and go straight to Malacca Riceball, then set your waypoint as Malacca Riceball, and the GPS will calculate the route according to your settings like fastest route or shortest route etc

Hope I answer you

Try plotting different way points. Like GP esso to your next petrol stop and so forth. Then you won't get the routing problem.

I will mark down all the way points then join them up using custom route. Much easier this way especially you are using mapsource.

Cheers

Hi All

Thanks for the advise. It does means that wherever I am and if I chose a planned route, it will always try to go to the start point instead of the nearest point on the route.

Thanks Demon, that is what I am doing now, just that sometime lazy to go thru to find out what is the next waypoint. But yes I know what you mean.

Another question, I did not do any research yet so this might sound like a silly question, I understand for the newer unit like oregon is using Basecamp instead of Mapsource? Or can Oregon use Mapsource as well? I am now familiar with Map source and all the 3rd party map (MFM, MSM, Jerome, Rotweiler) are all for mapsource, will they be compatible with basecamp?

I like the touch screen feature of Oregon but would not change is it doesn't use Mapsource.

Thanks again for help.

Don't get confuse. Oregon, and all the Garmin devices do not use Mapsource. Mapsource is just a Garmin Application to run Garmin format maps on PC. Any map, third party or original Garmin NT maps that run on any Garmin devices, will run on Mapsource. So you can go ahead to grab your Oregon.

Basecamp is a recently launched Garmin Application for PC, and it can run all Garmin format maps. It's definitely more powerful than Mapsource, and GUI, and even the graphic rendering feel like Google Map/Google Earth. However you would need a superduper PC to run Basecamp efficiently otherwise most will be better off using Mapsource.

Thanks Demon, and yes I understand what Mapsource is use for and been happily using it for route planning and place searching.

Last nite I had the chance to do some research online regarding using Mapsource for Oregon, thou it will work but seems like there is problem with sync-ing the POI and Waypoints, apparently the new modal and basecamp uses a different way to organise their file. Mapsource save all their info in .GPX file and Basecamp doesn't. Apparently you can use Mapsourse to upload your waypoint etc to Oregon but Mapsource can not receive waypointfrom Oregon. Apparently there is a way round that but rather complicated... Looks like would need to re-consider.

gpx files are created by the gps and Mapsource files are gdb.

If it's true that Oregon can only work fully with Basemap, and it will be the only one in the Garmin family to do so, then Oregon is doomed to fail.

Since you are familiar and happy with the 60csx, perhaps the 62csx will appeal to you.
