Has anyone here changed the valves on their bikes before? Im getting a taptaptap sound that increases with engine speed and suspect it's caused by one of the valves in the engine.

Would like to find out estimated cost of replacing the valves (if diagnosis is correct) before deciding if i should repair or scrap or trade-in coz the bike is only gonna last me until end 2015 (coe cannot renew anymore, i opted for 5yr renewal).

Thanks in advance! :)

Tapping sound when engine is cold is normal. Its the valve clearence. As the valves get hotter they expand. closing the gap and the sound either goes away or decreases. Unless the sound is really loud (eg timing chain etc) I wouldn't worry too much abt it.

If it bothers you, can go to bikeshop ask mechs advise. maybe can do valve clearence.

Hey guys, my CDI is ozzing out the gluey discharge badly, anyone got working CDI to sell?

Next, any advice on brake/brake hose servicing?

Hey bro, i face the same problem as yours..issit that bad.? One mechanic quote me 600 plus for new oem cdi for ver s...

I guess 600 is abit steep, especially for a non-vtec.

I recently went to service my carbs and the mech show me my gooey CDI, looks like its gonna melt anytime. I wouldnt wan the CDI to affect my bike in the long run, so changing it seems to be the best temporary solution.

So how much ur mech quote you for new cdi.? I would lyke to change to a new one too of the price is reasonable..

I cant recall, sorry, but its definately more den 600 because i was comparing the price of a CDI to a top servicing. Prolly u can check with the fellow brothers here if boon siew still sells non-vtec CDI.

Does it happen on low speed low gear or all the time?

The low speed low gear tapping sound should be the tapping of shin if i'm not wrong.

Don't think its a big problem.

High temp light on? not a natural phenomenon.

Maybe your radiator or hose is jam.

But i cant be sure that the bearing is worn out base on just what the mech says.

Any idea how do i verify it myself?

1-lift the front wheel off the ground, spin the wheel, put your palm at the fork holder, got vibration means worn out

2-remove rims, use your fingers to turn the bearing,if not turning smooth, means worn.

That's not the way to check the radiator fan not working and oso it could be the radiator fan switch (at the let hand side of the radiator ith a wire). Go ground the fan at the switch connector. It shoud turn when the iginiton key is "On".

Oh as my radiator fan switch is diff nt the normal one i cant take it out for grounding test... Any ways to test?

U dunt hve 2 tke anything out..just wire another wire to the connection at the radiator switch and touch it to any part of the body after switching on the ignition switch (no need to start engine). The connector to the radiator fan can be pull out..its just a male and female blade type connector.
