You might wanna check out KNOX armour, they have back protectors that run all the way down to the sacra region. Google for it and I think the local distributor is based in Jurong area.

Yea the KNOX distributor is a nice/interesting guy. The address is: Blk 541 Jurong West Ave 1 #01-1046C.

I went over to try the KNOX Aegis before buying my Forcefield. My personal impression having worn both:

1. Pro: The Aegis has a wider area of coverage.

2. Con: The Aegis is bulkier than the Forcefield. When fitted under my jacket, it made me look odd.

3. Con: The Aegis is a little gimmicky. Moving parts and plastic-y appearance.

But that's just me. I know others really rate the Aegis!

If anyone is keen to try/see the KNOX Aegis but is hesitant to head to Jurong, you might want to try MotoWorld at Kaki Bukit. They've got a yellow version (it's an RS Taichi labelled one but the product is the Aegis). Mind you, I last went there more than a month ago so it may not be there anymore.

Bike: Sportbike - Class 2B

Purpose: Daily commuting rain or shine except when more than a few beers are anticipated before leaving the house

Gear ATT:

Full face helmet

Gear MOTT:

Covered shoes or slip-ons with covered toes

Jeans

Something with long sleeves

Gear SOTT:

Shorts

Full-length bottoms made of thinner fabrics than jeans

Sandals

Raincoat of the cheapest kind

Factors influencing my choice of gear and clothing include where I'm going and what I plan to wear there, the weather and the likelihood of heavy traffic. I've fallen in minimal gear and it's not pretty. A jacket and gloves are on my wishlist but it'll be quite a few months before I'll be able to afford them (and it's not because I'm spending all my money on other indulgences) so for now I'm riding with my fingers crossed.

Please gear up guys.. friend just got into accident.

Don't wait till something happen then start to gear up, by then dmg would have been done. We're riders, at the very least, gearing up is what we can do for ourselves.

Wearing of a full face and jacket is a safety statement., its not a fashion statement.

An eye for an eye makes the world go blind,

it is then two wrongs to not result in a right.

Thanks for the tip! Appreciate it. I just might check out those gloves as I'm after a really basic pair. As for the jacket, I have my eye on an RS Taichi jacket which I hope will still be up for grabs when I've saved up enough to get it. For now I'll try to wear fleece hoodies or something.

Some additional tips:

Things to take note when buying bike:

1. Compare the insurance prices

2. Compare the parts availability and waiting time

3. The shops/mechanics that can repair the bike

4. Resale value of the bikes

5. Sitting posture for rider & pillion

Need to run in the engine first during the required running-in period after overhaul, change the engine oil n oil filter at required intervals, you can feel the surge of power once the engine has been broken in, then can wack the bike.

Bikes manufactured recent yrs have higher tolerance level thus seldom have the need for overhaul.

Improper modification of bikes might caused pre-mature damaged/spoilt thus having the need to overhaul and replaced faulty components.

Wat to look out for if you feel vibration when riding.

1. Wheel bearings

2. Steering cone bearing

3. Fork oil (Time to service fork)

4. Check for loose chain or worn-out sprockets

5. Rear shocks too soft (Time to change the shocks or rebuild them)

6. Check tire pressure.

Improper use of engine braking might cause more harm cos of the excessive over-drive of the engine might cause the rear wheel to overspin, another factor is the rear wheel will over-drive the engine thus stressing the engine tat might cause pre mature damages.

ATGATT is essential when riding.

Full Face helmet, amoured mesh jacket or elbow guards, leather gloves, covered shoes, long pants or jeans.

Might even wear knee guards sometime.

Any additional protection is even better.

Most important of all, pls ride safe and dun speed, dun be a road hazard to other road users.

I love RS Taichi jackets. Quality products at a very good price. I was at MotoWorld last Thursday and saw quite a few new RS Taichi jacket designs. You should check it out. Don't forget to bargain the price down - at the very least they should give a 10% discount.

Yeah, I became quite found of Raichi products myself. Isn't there any other place we can order them online ? The official website doesn't have an online store and I couldn;t find a website that sells their product, except for Japanese sites which are a bit hard to navigate when there's no English version.

you can go to their facebook page.

anyways, people who know me know that i got into an accident sometime back, self skid.

just wanna highlight that my gear did save me from much more serious injury.

i had on armor jacket and FF only, and i managed to walk away from the skid with sprained wrists. if i was wearing gloves, i pretty sure i would be unscratched.

so ATGATT.

guys, how do we minimize wrist sprain in scenarios like this?

Gloves with sliders on the palm (little plastic/carbon fibre bits around the palm area) should help. This way, when you fall and extend your arms with open palms to break your fall, your palms will slide out as opposed to grabbing on the road and sending the forces into your wrists.

Finally completed my set of gear. :)

Bike: Sportsbike - Class 2A

Purpose: Transport and Leisure

Gear ATT (all the time)(Weekdays to and fro work):

1. FF Helmet (HJC CL-ST)

2. Gloves wif CF Knuckle Protector (Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves -2011 version )

3. Armored Mesh Jacket (Alpinestars T-RC 1 Air Flo Jacket)

4. Riding Boots (Alpinestars Roam Waterproof Boots)

Gear SOTT (some of the time):

1. Open Face Helmet

2. Gloves

One problem I am facing, I find it hard to change gear with the riding boots, would it season overtime or must I adjust my gear lever?

I had this problem as well with my A* boots.

What I did was change the way I moved my foot underneath the lever. In the past, I could pretty much slide my foot down the peg and the tip of my shoe would be underneath the lever. With the boot being much thicker and grippier on the pegs, I now swing the tip of my boot outwardly then underneath the lever. It takes a while to get used to, but you do get used to it.

The boots will be 'seasoned'/ broken in over time, as always.

You just need to get used to it for now.

Some wore that to walk around other than on the bike, so it breaks in faster.

Just try to ride around your neighbourhood and get adjusted to the boots, after awhile it should feel natural. I had the same 'shock' when I first rode with boots. It felt as if the boots were too thick to go under the gear lever. I kept stepping on it instead of shiftiing up.

hmm, when i skid, i didn't flew off the bike, i fell with the bike.

somehow i wasn't pinned by the bike because of my handlebars.

i suspect it was the impact of the handlebars slamming the ground and transferred that force to both my wrist.

cause you know when **** happens, we tense up, grip the bars tighter.

but hey, still alive and in 1 piece, can't be more glad.

Thanks for all advise, I will be wearing my boots all day to quickly season them... :cheeky:

cool, thanks for sharing the knowledge! Mine only has a thick padding on it. Would it suffice? I'll probably invest in a better pair of gloves next...

No probs. Thick padding will absorb the impact of your palm landing on the ground, but generally won't serve as a slider to slide your palm out of the way. If the fall isn't too serious, the padding could absorb enough force that little gets transmitted to your wrist. But if the fall is a bad one, I think you'll be better off having your palms slide out so the impact forces are spread over a larger area of your body.

Recently I just kissed the tarmac, luckily it was a low speed corner so just escape with only minor injuries which is only the skins. Luckily I was wearing jeans and safety shoes, so only my right knee cap tio a little bit. But as for hands.. how I wished I had gloves with me.

As for helmet, I always like FF but riding as kup.. feels damn funny image for kup and FF Helmet.. But considering safety, I might just go for it.

I never like to wear gloves but looks like it will be better to have one when there is the next fall, then next would be riding jacket. Can anyone recommend me some comfortable and also protective gloves?

Lesson learned.
