I'm currently staying and working in the East; travelling approx 11.0km to work and vice versa, a total of 22.0km per trip. My ride is currently a Phantom TA150.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I may be working in Jurong soon and estimated distance is 46.0km, thus, full round trip is = 92.0km!! As such, I'm concern as fuel consumption will go up min 4 X.

So, looking for biker's opinion:

1. Cont'd using current bike and accept tat cost will go up 4 X?

2. Change bike??

If so, my criteria is:

a. Good FC

b. Decent pickup

c. reasonable max speed of 120.0kmh

d. Low Maintenance

e. Ride comfort

f. Reliable

g. Parts availability

Bikes I'm considering:

a. Honda Tiger 200cc

b. Yamaha FZ150i

c. Sym GMAX 150i

I know that are some bikes out there tat might fit my needs but I didn't shortlist here as it's either I'm not aware or tat they are percieved to be unreliable and need to modify or maintenance are high.

Spark, Wave, X-1? They all can hit 120km/h, all low maintenance and relatively new but personally I never like scooter riding position. Too flickable, feels unstable.

Your petrol expenditure sure go up since the distance increases.

As your travel distance is longer, your selection probably won't make any big diff. Longer distance makes your bike works longer. Be prepare to increase your maintenance too.

TA150?

whoa, i rode that bike years ago and yeah that thing consumes petrol like nobody's business. not because its a 'bad' bike, but its just typical for a 2 stroke engine. back then i didn care coz i just loved the 2-stroke engine and i preferred spending a little more on the petrol rather than get on a lesser powered but better FC 4-stroke TA200.

so if you're gonna get on a 4-stroke, i'm pretty sure you can really feel the improved FC. plus i donno how well maintained your TA150 is, but the very same TA150 i used to ride is currently used by my dad after COE extension a few years ago, and the engine has lost all of its original excitement. it no longer feels like its significantly faster than newer 4 strokes. if its the same with your TA150, then maybe a newer 4 stroke wouldn feel significantly less powerful. heck, maybe the new 4-stroke would feel more powerful, but i donno how well-maintained yours is.

personally, assuming you can afford say a

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

These are all cubs right? Did consider but seems a bit small? Yes, scooter being considered but on high on the list as I understand maintenance higher than standard bikes.

Did think of puslar but seems bike not as reliable as the hondas or yamahas? R150 sport bike...riding long distance may not be as comfortable?

U're right tat maintenance will go up but FC for 4 stroke should be better than my current 2 stroke.

personally, assuming you can afford say a My TA150 is a workhorse and it's 11 yrs old:). Other than wear and tear, no issues with bike; just change oil and spark plug periodically, tat's it. It's a good, reliable bike. Tat's why headache. If work in Jurong and travel 92.0km everyday, it might stress the bike and also, cannot take the increase in fuel consumption.

I would like to know if there's this model sym gmax 150i. Last i rode gmax was a pgo.
Sorry, I only read about the gmax 150i and understand it's a Taiwan bike??

Tiger is basically Phantom 200 in a road bike form, so...
Tiger 200cc is a 4stroke mah vs my 2 stroke. Read pretty good reviews about the bike and good FC......only minor problem I've is the bike lights:)

True...but how much savings? Read up on various 5 stroke bikes and find FC being quoted from approx 25km to 50km. As the criterias I list hve many req'ments.....thus, I'm looking at FC of 36km would be realistic.

i can only say abt my experience with honda tiger coz it's my one and only bike. overall its been great for me. easy maintenance, nice riding posture, good pick up and cruising. most importantly, front and rear disc brake. one full tank can go abt 400-450 km,without reserve, though if your throttle control is good then it'll be higher.

you can go ask abt pulsar from the bros at the pulsar thread. they're friendly and helpful.

hope this helps ya!

Thanks Bro. Ya, tat's what I read about tiger:). Yes, I had been following Pulsar when it came out; it's a great looking bike with good FC but find that tiger reliability seems to be better with better power and easy maintenance.

Maintenance high? Hell no. Any bike will be high on maintenance if they are old or that the previous owner don't really take care.

get ta200 la.

normal fc is around 35-42km for me. well maintained.

tiger is phantom engine in stree bike chassis la.

ta150 is 2 stroke so will consume more fuel naturally.

any 2b 4 strokers will be fine for you. pulsar is a good choice as well. for fc.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Personally, I do not hve much experience with scooters...except many many moons ago, my 1st bike was a scooter but did not ride long as had a few accidents on it. Wat I know are from friends who own scooters and reading up the forums. Edited by Streetwise

Phantom is a good bike but tail heavy leh.....everytime I ride in rain got to be extra careful as can fish tail easily. somemore no longer in production.

Tks...but isn't this a old model??
