i have removed the thermostat on my bike. 2 yrs now, no prob.

one advice, the r6 on sg roads, dun ride too slow.....easy to heat up....and also, rev it up. gush of wind to radiator is very important.

 

my bike on sg road expressway 60 celcius...reach 59 before.....on track about 85.

 

bro , u DIY? or done at bike shop?

 

after removed the thermostat need to change coolent?

ytd rode my R606 out =X

 

from hougang to pasir ris all the way i maintain around 80-110km but the temperature seems to be very high ( 80/90c plus) at high way

 

once i stop at traffic light temperature will be around 100-110 den the fan will auto on.. when riding feel very hot.. issit normal ? or is there anyway to make it cooler? =.-

 

i also experience this when i 1st got my R6. i tot my engine gonna blow:giddy: . after awhile i got use to it. just ride abit faster to catch the wind engine will cool down.maybe try faster pick up than high speed in sg road.

try removing the thermostat.....this piece is quite redundant for use in sg....its more for cold countries.

the thermostat is located at the engine....just below air box(or nearby).....coolant have to be drained first. u can diy or do at workshop.

 

1st remove the coolant hose, then unscew the thermostat housing....remove the thermostat and the rubber ring around the thermostat. rubber ring has to be replaced back....screw back cover....plug coolant hose, refill coolant and enjoy.

removing the thermostat, lcd display is still normal. temperature will be fast cool down when u ride faster

when a bike is produced, its made for worldwide, including cold countries.....where air temps can be 15 degree celcius.....without the thermostat.....the bike can be running too cold, say 45-50 celcius....so a thermostat is added. until the water temp hits 90 celcius, the thermostat will remain shut, causing water to heat up at engine side, to reduce the cold engine temps. once it hits 90, the thermostat opens up, allowing water to flow, allowing engine to cool, but once it hits 60, the thermostat will shut again.

 

however, in sg, the bike can easily run between 80-90 celcius.... so removing the thermostat, will allow it to run at low 80s...... meaning water flows thru non stop. no error code, no problem with ur bikes......only will run a little cooler.

 

this is not just for r6, but for any bike
