Yo mates, having a very big headache over here...

Sadly while dragging with my riding mates, I busted my rear belt drive.

The belt snap....

Age of belt is unknown

Got the bike just two months ago.

Previous owner rode it for around 4 years with no belt change

It is an original harley belt 128T 1.1inch

So now I need to get a replacement belt.

Should I

Get from the local Harley Agent

or

Get an aftermarket belt? (which may be better or?)

If aftermarket belt, what are the more reputable or reliable & durable (for me to trash around lol) brands available?

BDL, Panter, Gates etc etc

Actually very curious what are the belt made up of?

Kelvar with reinforced steel wiring round the belt or?

Your help & advice will be greatly appericated.

Cheers!!!

Thanks & Regards

Steven

i think it could have been poorly maintained (or degraded)

I can only offer advice depending on your current requirement. Not sure if aftermarket belts are easily available here. So if you need it fast there's only the local HD for a replacement, maybe a temporary one until you find a better aftermarket one.

Don't use aftermarket belts, stick with the stock one. Stock is very good unless it's torn due to stone or something getting in between it and the pulley. I had a pebble imbedded into my sportster belt for ages and had no issue. As long as it's not at the edge of the belt. Manual receommend replaement at 70k and others have ran it much longer w/o issues.

If you decide to get a 130ci motor, and loves drag racing (serious drag racing) at our traffic light, then stop riding. Don't give us a bad name

:dot:

Seriously, just save your time searching for other mods instead. In fact, there's hardly any aftermarket ones. Aftermarket primary belts are plentiful, not final drive belt.

Which year and model is your belt? Big twin evo (99-down) are 1 1/8", TC (00-up) is 1". Those with stock 200 rear tires are 7/8". Sportsters are 1 1/8". Not sure about newer sportsters. # of teeth depends on model. Get from dealership or you can buy through your fav mechanic. BT are pain in the butt to install yourself so just pay the mech.

Or take the chance to do a wide tire conversion with a narrower belt :thumb:

Hi guys, been awhile since i was in this forum. How's things?? Anybody up for an afternoon or night meet-up at handlebar over the weekend and get our bike washed at the same time?? Getting your bike washed while drinking beer, priceless! We can then talk about some riding up North.

interesting..didnt know handlebar has bike wash service, what the charges like?

I think its $30 for wash or $40 for wash/polish. I dont often go there, except when my wheels and spokes are too dirty for me to bother with. They do a great job. Sundays are best time to go, I think they open around 3 or 4. It gets crowded with bikes coming in from Malaysia needing a wash. But again, nice excuse to drink and eat while waiting.

I had heard they may be losing their lease as Gilman heights gets redeveloped, so on a month to month basis til the govt decides what to do.

Are those Ohlins you have on the rear? Did you chrome them? Must be a smooth ride. Am waiting on my new shocks to arrive, but trying a different brand.

Try this hard ware store located at Shun Li Industrial Park....

I get all my stainless screws all there & pricing is dirt cheap....

Just get a sample of the screw or the size & tell them the quanity U need...

They stockpile tons of diff variety of screws, bolts, nuts, washers etc.....

Joo Metal Pte Ltd

No 73, Kaki Bukit Ave 1, Shun Li Industrial Park, S(417949)

Tel: 67428278

By any chance U can't find....

either ask the security guard there or

the mechanic I frequent, Ah Boon (Republic Motor)

they will guide u to the place...

Cheers!!!

Those are Sportster S original rear shock if I'm not wrong....

able to do preload, dampering & rebound & not forgetting able to rebuilt like Ohlins Shocks.

try to install on my ride but it make the whole bike too "straight" something like XR1200 style ... still prefer the low style...lol
