it depends on the biker..no doubt it is an overkill. but the experience of riding on a big bike is different compared to smaller cc bikes.

If once in a while go overseas on bike would be good to "clear carbon"

haha....expressway.i have no doubt about it.still can teavel at 90...just that some of the road, etc 3lanes road not expressway yet so wide why still kept at 60km/h?road like those flyover ducts(beside vivo city, after kovan around serangoon, kaki bukit duct...and many more....:giddy: crazy man...just don't understand why?no pedrestrain lane,no double yellow line,no traffic light yet limit the speed at 70km/h.so what's the differeance when u travel 90 on a expressway and the flyover duct?

Via ducts tend to go through populated areas; areas whereby there are pedestrian walkways and bus stops by the side. Some stretches of road like the expressway connecting AYE to ECP overlooking Fullerton also have rather low barriers, hence the lower limit of 70?

Limitting speed should positively limit the fallout should vehicles crash out to the sides or spin out of control off the road.

Whenever i ride over the stretch of "expressway" overlooking Fullerton, I always wonder when will some bike or car will spin in an accident on what is already narrower than normal lanes, hit the low barrier and...

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

I don't think the general singapore drivers and ridders are actually travelling at the local speed limit at all times. I can ride at 80kph on our local expressway, but being overtaken by lorries and buses. I ever needed to ride at 130kph to overtake a dumper truck along AYE. Another time driving at 120kph along westcoast highway going side by side with a trailer.

We have a couple of ferrari, lambo, pagani on our road also, some of them never even drive out of singapore. overkill?

Posted

No doubt riding a big bike is overkill but to think of it, u can to travel anyway at out of SG ur own speed at a low cost.

IMHO riding bikes is not always about practicality. We all can do with a bit of fun in our lives... riding a big bike introduces different fun factors from riding a small bike. Both are shiok... just depends on the individual. For me, I choose big bike. Also, for me, riding a big bike is safer, as it has the power to get you out of dangerous situations better than a small bike can. Of course, before I get flamed, it depends also on the ability and willingness to control the throttle.

Why ride a big cc bike even when you are not fully using all it's power?

1. Passion, interest.

Just like PC gaming enthusiast buy high-specs PC; audio-lovers spend more on their sound systems and acoustics; just like you buy a handphone with more features than you really use.

2. Life style

Bikes can be used for various reasons beside just commuting, that's it's beauty.

So happens that touring bikes tend to bigger cc; track bikes tend to be bigger cc.

3. Affordability

We are lucky in singapore. Big bikes are actually easier to afford compared to other countries like Malaysia, US.

If you are not picky to try chasing the latest models, the average annual depreciation cost of older model 600-1,000cc street and sport bikes are just slightly more than new Super4s.

4. Financial ability and willingness

You will find that most riders of the more expensive big bikes are working adults and not students. It may be well within their financial ability to support a bigger bike.

Even within a given financial situation, it is up to the individual how they want to spend their money, right? Some people can drink water and eat bread so that they can own a bike of their dream. Who is to judge?
