anyone with true knowledge know how to explain CDI in layman term?

correct me if i am wrong.

but what i know about racing CDI is that it is like a booster for your bike.

the pick up is faster and

yah the thing is it makes ur bike faster.

Capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) or thyristor ignition is a type of automotive electronic ignition system which is widely used in motorcycles, lawn mowers, chain saws, small engines, Turbine powered aircraft, and some cars. It was originally developed to overcome the long charging times associated with high inductance coils used in inductive ignition systems, making the ignition system more suitable for high engine speeds (for small engines, racing engines and rotary piston engines). Capacitor discharge ignition uses capacitor discharge current output to fire the spark plugs.

*taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_discharge_ignition*

If you replace the stock CDI with a aftermarket CDI, it will affect the firing of the sparkplug and such.. therefore you get the power.. be it on the RPM or the overall performance.. different CDI has different features..

On what CDI to purchase for your wave, i believe there's a MO thread on CDI for kups going on.. go PM the threadstarter and ask him.. he's quite knowledgeable in his stuffs..

class 2a and class 2 won't die?

I guess class 2a and class 2 bikes are more stable and equipped with better brakes that's why its more "safe"?

yeap... indeed...... going fast takes balls... stopping fast takes skills... muhahhaa

which i think thats the reason why more 2B bikes meet with accidents... all cannot stop.. lol

basically its just the freaking brain for ur bike.controls the processes of the bike from carb opening,, electricty, power cut ..which is something like vtec..reach certain rpm it wil chiiong. ur cdi burn ur bike also burn..as in cannot move. what kind is out there i dunno. but i suggest don get from jb or whereever. u'll never know when it will fail on u. cdi is not the only thing. it must be coupled with chamber pipe, big bore, race carb to realize its full potensi. u only get cdi and use..it will burn itself and also 'eat' ur bike internals.

Alamak, you all say until ti ti ta ti du... dunno what the F you all talking about. Basically it is improve the higher rev range. It allows the engine to rev higher without a limit. EAT your internals?? CDI got teeth ah? Higher rev usage with stock internals would naturally lead to permature failure. If u use reinforced internals it would be better utilised.

usually all the typess of after market cdi's got no limiter..

all i see out there r cdi's with just no limiter, those with fixed advanced timing,or those with variable ingnition timing..

the no limiter type claims lah, give higher rev range, bigger spark yada yada yada.. u whack until vibrate like piston want to come out of block.. hahaha (ok lame)..but in the 1st place, the manufacturer put the limiter in the 1st place so dat the engine can last longer.. not everytime over rev..

fixed advanced timing means, ignition timing faster than stock cdi, so i tink should give better pickup ah.. this one maybe u need to do slight mods to ur bike.. air/fuel mixture, carb timing n stuff...

dat variable timing 1 is more complicated to me ah to get it to perform at optimum level... this type of cdi can adjust the timing of ignition.. need to do carb timing, jettings.. exhaust... like bluefoxz said, change internals.. setting this, setting that.. skali kick start cannot start.. wakakakaka... maybe if u racer can lah for hobby, for race.. got spare time, everyday look at bike, then can slowly build ur bike up.. street racers from other contries use these types cos they can choose setting, like setting for drag race, or setting for circuits..

i personally riding small bike.. n i also change cdi, but gives better pick up slightly, topspeed, i also dunno ah.. go too fast wobble already ah.. so my cdi i use for pick-up-change-lane-overtake the too slowly moving vehicles on the road.. no point ah 2b bike go so fast.. i now only taking 2a.. got money then buy big bike ah.. no money so i go slow on my small bike ah.. (wah i tell u my life story already)...

i only say wat i know, wat i understand, but doesnt mean i'm right.. so dont shoot me k..

who gets summoned for not signalling? i did..

dumb luck? maybe...

make sure ur CDI is concealed properly...
