definitely brings you to more places as compared to mrt.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

When you get a bike, you will tend to appreciate things and those around you more.

Back when i was a commoner, i felt that the "man" was controlling my life with the "system". I was nothing but a mere pawn in the little game of public transportation.

But once i got a bike, things change. People change. You appreciate what you have because you know you never want to go back to standing in those sardine cans The downside is that you know accidents can happen anywhere and anytime and that makes you appreciate those around you more.

Seconding that, get more conscious that accidents can happen, i can die or be maimed anytime. Appreciating life better, being responsible, stop procrastinating...

Also walk around less, all i do is go carpark, and hop on bike to go places. need to put in effort to exercise more.

it will be a convienent mode of transport for you, but then again, risk is involved, so if you ever get a bike, be very careful of your surrounding.

The most wonderful thing you will feel, is how much time you can save compared to public transport. While on the other hand, be prepared to fork out more money compared to the cost of taking public transport...

Cost vs Benefit...

main difference?

freedom.

no longer restricted by overcharging taxis, crowded buses or trains filled with people and having to stick with their timing.

with a bike, i can go ANYWHERE, ANYTIME I LIKE.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

It changed my life man. It cut my 1 hour 10 minute journey to work by more than half. I used to HATE going to work because I'd get so stressed out when I was late and the bus still wasn't there half an hour after I had reached the bus stop. Even if I have a lousy day at work, I know I can just eff off from the office and zip home on the expressway. No more rushing to catch the last bus or lamenting over $20+ cab fares. No more calling friends to apologise for being late because I just missed the bus.

I've made lots of acquaintances and friends who ride bikes. It's not uncommon for the person who parked his/her bike beside yours to strike up a conversation.

Unfortunately, I've also become a lot more paranoid about drinking. Can't really drink in peace as before.

with great power... come great responsibility :D

haha...

sure thing on the convenience and all the good stuff

BUT

you do tend to be more responsible in a way

have to adjust finances

plan ahead

be a good road user (most of the time)

the list goes on :)

Grounded... :/

Pros:

I can work after 12. No more midnight surcharge. Home to work in 20 mins, 15 if I ride like a maniac. Anytime anywhere.

Cons:

How it felt to fly like a G6 and the pain of it on my wallet. The pain of maintenance. Everyday cough due to smoke from other vehicles. I get lost often.

So rush hour job I ride public, see chiobus on MRT and squeeze with them, work at night I ride bike, open road and few cars so can ride fast2.

When you started riding, but must learn also when not to ride - for goodness sake, not everywhere you go must be on a bike.

Eg, rainy like **** days, wedding dinners, company functions, family outing, etc.

Posted

Makes going to work/school/makan places much much more fun.

Riding a motorbike will teach you a lot of 'street smarts', like, as aforesaid, when to ride and when not to, being responsible for yourself & others on the road. You'll also automatically pick up your fair share of automotive engineering skills if you care to read up online & ask the mechanics about caring for your bike.

The best thing is that you no longer have to squeeze into human sardine cans (public transports). The thing I hate about public transports are the perverts/pedophiles/general public nuisances, etc floating around.

Cost wise only a reliable, low consumption 2B 4 stroke can fight with MRT for cost effectiveness, don't forget insurance, upkeep costs etc, so it's not about "saving money by riding a bike", it's about the freedom.

And you can also gossip on SBF as an added bonus :3
