How do u shake off tail-gaters?

Guys.. just wondering how do u shake off tail-gaters. I always kena tailed gate on PIE even if I sped up to 120km/h they also sped up to match, then even when at 120km those blardy drivers just left me abt 4-5m of space!!! i ride a scooter so when cornering i cant go that fast n need to slow down. but with 4-5m spacing.. how to slow down? then want to change lane also difficult.. almost got into several accidents bcos of such inconsiderate a**h**s. then i thot of this.. got once a taxi tailed gate me about 5m also i was at 90km then sped up to 110 to shake him off but he kept up to my speed. i became angry n put up hazard light.. scared the sh*t out of him n he slowed like 20m away... just like to know your various methods to shake off such guys.

on what lane did they tail gate you ? no offence but most 2b bike's meter is not accurate so you might be only at 90-100 which is road hogging for the cars .

 

But for me , to shake off those idiot taxis , i'll tap constently the front brake causing the break light to flicker . Tap just to on the brake light and not strong enough to cause me to brake . I bet they'll back off .

 

All in all , being tail gated means you're road hogging and you have to change lane to let them pass .

hmm.. extreme right lane but i've been riding for abt 4yrs and sort of able to gauge speed w/o looking at meter so i was sure i was moving that fast. besides.. i dun think it is safe to tap on brake when the car was only 5m behind and moving at such high speed right

For me.. whenever it happens i just change lane n move to the left.. but since in ur case its diff to change lane.. ermm.. den no choice la.. jus ride slow and let dem overtake u.. but seriously.. even at bends and exits from expressways.. sum taxis tailgate so badly la.. i jus go slowly and after a while they give up. haha

If they never highbeam or horn you, then just let them follow and concentrate on the road condition and situation infront of you.

4-5 mtrs is not consider tailgate, it is normal car to car spacing on sg rd (although it is abit too close, it is very normal on the road, can see it everywhere).

Tailgate mean the car behind follow very very close to your vehicle till its front bumper almost kiss your rear wheel/number plate.

Normally if i am going at 120km/hr at the right lane, any faster vehicle approaching , i will still let them pass. What's the point of letting them tailgate you? so what if you are already travelling "very fast". ? As long got faster vehicle behind you at the extreme right lane, let them pass. Unless you are in the middle lane and vehicle is tailgating you, forcing you to let him or her pass. That is being a *******. they wan to overtake, they have to take the right lane.

 

rule of the expressway is very simple and easy and safe IF you follow the following :

 

1 . you can stick to the speed limit of 80 or 90 if you are in the middle lane or any other lane other than the overtaking lane lane, aka right lane. any vehicle wants to overtake, they have to do it in the right.

 

2. if you are in the overtaking lane, JUST GIVE WAY to any other vehicle that is faster than you. SIMPLE RULE to follow. Even if you are going at 180km/hr, and there's a vehicle behind you attempting to force you out, just give way.

 

3. you want to overtake, take the right lane, speed up and go. when u are slowing down to legal speed, please move out of overtaking lane, unless the road behind you is clear.

wahahah i agree too, but some ppl is just a ******* la i dont think they got the balls to knock u one. Got once at PIE i riding my skipper how fast can that bugger go the most 90 got one ******* keep on horn and flash me as me to siam wat i do is also to on hazard light lor end up he also L L siam away.

please exercise some common sense, the 1st lane is for overtaking. if someone closes in on you regardless of what speed you're in, just switch to the 2nd lane and let him pass. all that braking/ riding slowly on purpose to piss drivers off just give us riders a bad name.

Always change back out of the 1st lane. No point hogging the road.

 

And I'm sure over a speed of the claimed 120km/h, there's bound to be some space on the left to slot your bike into the 2nd lane. At 120km/h, confirm pass at least 10 to 20 cars on your left, but if you claim that there's REALLY no space, means its a traffic jam, and a traffic jam occurs on all lanes, not just the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, so you wouldn't really even have the chance to travel at 120km/h.

I ever encoutered this, the driver purposely tail gating me even the road traffic was clear and I was riding on the 3rd lane. I slowed down the bike and ride on the shoulder to let the driver overtake me. It was a specky guy in late 20s driving a small Chevrolet eating a big pack of Twisties

Usual method....

I speed up, he close up ,

I speed up again, he close up the gap.

I speed up last time, close throttle and make the rear barke light up without the actually braking ...... e will close in and see bake light and e brake.

 

Then i filter left , let him pass and smile at him .....

My method same as his hehe feel this method for myself is good but my frds told me is dangerous but i nv feel it.

Just use your own method that u feel it is safe.

this topic was in reference to the 1st lane as stated by the threadstarter. even if you are on the 3rd lane, pulling off a stupid stunt by braking in front of car doesn't make it any safer than you doing it on the 1st lane.

IMHO, the last thing you want to do is brake or even think about braking.

 

Staying beside a highway for 18 years. Looking out the window just to look at sky, moon, stars, clouds, etc. (Seriously, I really look out to see these things, quire relaxing.) I think its always "Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep... BOOM!", rain, shine, fast traffic, slow traffic, always some gay vehicle in front do something stupid and the rear vehicle cannot react in time.

erm.. problem is as Xenophobia07 said.. it wud be stupid to even think to slow down a bit cos i am NOT confident of the driver who tail-gates me.. what if i tapped brake n he was busy doing something or too shocked to react? 5m nia ley.. in the end i lose out (..or worst scenario) but he still lives on. i WOULD gladly give way move to the next available lane if he gives me chance to do so, but no lor kept inching forward machiam myopia want to see my license plate for 4D number. then i always ride more to the left side lor.. so i move a bit the car can sure squeeze through, but he so damn stupid stayed so near yet expect me to clear away from in front of him..

If you're comfortable with squeezing then squeeze when you got the chance loh. Sometimes i feel that I get less trouble when I'm constantly riding between lanes in moderately heavy traffic. That kind of going to jam soon but never jam ah... a lot cars but all going moderately fast ah... Piang eh... Follow the rules with your halo above your helmet for a while and some fork comes to your rear and sides. I might as well be the B*stard and make them uncomfortable. After all, I'm more used to close spaces on my sides then them. Just do it safely loh.
