Think while they are doing every single road block, they must have had a objective/motive/target/assignment to perform. For all we know, they are on a top secret mission which they can't reveal to jus anyone (Or to those whom they stop for check).....so think it is a bit unfair to blame them as they are just doing their job.

On top of that, would u want to see them doing road block or would u want to see them hiding somewher sleeping or relaxing? I'm sure u won't like the latter rite?

Lastly, to be fair to police man also, I think they also pay tax even when they are working for the government. So it's quite unfair to quote that we pay tax for them to stand there....

The above is jus my personal view....no offence to anyone....PEACE.....

TP operations got objective and pattern one. Their operation not random one. Some times very easy to guess and predict.

Year end, festive time. TP put roadblocks out to catch merry makers who drink-and-drive. Too many bikes reported stolen, put roadblocks out to identify stolen bikes. Complaints from the public on street racing, put roadblocks catch illegal modifications.

Basically, TP is not out to single bikes. They are executing higher objectives. If you don't understand, don't guess and suspect and feel bad afterwards. Just go talk to the TP nicely.

There was once, I and a coupe of my friends on our bikes are riding into malaysia. At the s'pore custom, we were pulled aside by the officers there. It never happened before. Only the bikes were pulled aside and the cars are not. Why?

The officers start to ask us about our bikes, where we are going. I answered them nicely. After that, I asked one of them what's happening; why they are doing this. They explained there has been a recent increase in bike thief. They are looking out for stolen bikes (being smuggled across into the north).

Ah, so they are helping us bikers!

Many other bikers were around me. They did not ask and did not get the explanation. I went round and explained to them why we are stuck here for the moment. After they understood, they were no longer puzzled and don't mind the brief delay. Indeed, very soon, we were cleared and we continued our way. :thumb:

I totally agree with this. Our policemen get a very bad rep from some of us bikers. But they may actually be trying to help us. So many bikers report to the cops that they had their expensive, shiny new parts stolen, of course they will try to take action. You want Singapore to be safer and secure for us bikers, then be prepared for more roadblocks, checks and other deterrents. Just take it in your stride, all these things are just minor inconveniences. And ALWAYS be polite when asking them why they're doing it. They are humans too, like me and you. You be nice to them, they'll (usually) be nice to you too. :thumb:

I used to be a car person. Then one day, I woke up and became a biker.

Ex rides:

Nissan Sunny 1.6

Nissan Cefiro 2.0

Honda CBR 150 R

Honda CBR 400 RR Fireblade

Current rides:

Yamaha 2008 YZF-R1

KIA Cerato Forte 1.6 Well OK sometimes a car comes in handy.

Never been stopped but I'd rather they do more often to weed out people who:

1) Drive/ride without licence;

2) Drive/ride after drinking;

3) Drive/ride illegally modified vehicle (modifications that cause danger to others e.g. super bright lights);

4) Drive/ride stolen vehicles or vehicle parts

and so on.

So far only once (while driving) and they just looked at my face and waved me on. Got once my partner and I kena at Anderson Road because of the high level security meeting at Shangri La Hotel. They checked the cars and waved the bikes on I think.

Erm actually you are very correct. Police officers pay tax too. Duh? And with a difficult public to deal with, no wonder more and more are resigning. Luckily I only need to do it for 18 days (minimum) a year.

One day when there are no more police officers around, I see who will complain again ..

u think they also pay tax?

u are not certain if their pay is below the min. taxable income bracket stated by IRAS?

what is it now? 20k p.a.?

yes, of course they also pay tax.

but I believe the Spore population is larger than the whole police force?

Whom, being the majority, would contribute greater tax dollars to their income?

Or are u saying the police force is so huge and get paid a tremendous amt to be taxed entirely so that it becomes their pay??? o_O

yo dude, fyi, even a police corporal now definitely earns more than 20k per annum. so yes policemen do pay tax too. unless the tax u pay can provide for the salaries of the whole police force, i dont think its much of an issue right?

its more about the job scope lah, bro. example.. if u have a relative/friend who commits a crime, would u be pissed with the judge just because he rightfully sentenced ur relative/friend to jail? same goes here. the police do it because its their job. not because they happy2 want to stop u for nothing.

btw, i believe officers use their own discretion whether or not to stop a vehicle. it is not true that they only target bikes. go to spf website and just read the news bulletin. u will see that over the past month or so, a number of loansharks with cans of paint have been caught at roadblocks. proof that they check on cars too.

so to all riders, please give due respect to the officers doing the roadblock. its just their job. cheers. and ride safe.

dont flame me. haha.

anyway for all the old timers here, guess you guys still remembered around 3-5 yrs back, there was an island wide crackdown where all class 2b and 2a bikes were stopped and impounded irregardless of age and bike including uncle on GN125.

there was like 50-100bikes being escorted to TP Hq one shot.

Yeah. That was a strange blanket operation. Everyone tio'ed, including old men on their mopeds. I wonder what the hell it was for.

I can understand them stopping bikes with visual or aural evidence of illegal mods.

But uncles on their GN125?? Come on! Gimme a break.

That being said. I don't mind being pulled over for an ID check at a roadblock, be it NPP or TP..... as long as they're polite to me. I'll reciprocate the gesture and be cooperative.

'Cos if they're rude for no reason, I'll be sure to write in.

Perhaps u might wanna enlighten on the percentage of 'Singapore population' tax contribution to say: SPF, SAF, MOE....blah blah blah civil servants' pay.........unless u noe it, otherwise it may appear such tat every single civil servant (whichever place they are from) stands the minority of the population.

In another words:

...... the poor SAF guy paid by US to 'cheong' the mountain?

....... the poor teacher paid by US to stand it front of our kids and teach them?

Thinking by, wat they do is jus a job...their job....like u and me have. Wat they want is to bring back food to the table for their family at the end of the day....like u and me (again)....

So let's jus be a bit fair and not so hard on them bah....

PEACE once again.......

Men in Blues are humans...in times of emergency or needs, they are the "superman" that everybody seeks information, advice, assistance and help.

To deter is their job scope, so just cooperate and go through it smoothly without obstructing their duty...

Funny thing is TS IS LOST!!!!

Another thing is i like roadblocks. Reasons...

1) no more noise mod illegal pipes.

2) no more theft of bike.

3) no more illegal riders.

4) no more drunk riders.

5) it makes ppl who do illegal things scared.

i dont mind police road blocks in singapore, at least it is not a donation drive like in some neighbouring country...:sian:
